Marino Rocks - Land Based

Weather looks OK tomorrow and I thought I would try Marino Rocks for squid. I don't know this area for land based fishing, so would appreciate some advice on best time/tide to go.

Low tide is 10.45am and high tide is 5.07pm. Is it possible to fish this area on the high tide, or do you need a low tide to get out onto the rocks?

There is a cafe on Marine Parade called Marino rocks social,just park out front in the public car park and walk down to the water.There is a YT video with guys fishing off the rocks which will give you some idea of the area.

Forgot to mention best using shallow slow sink jigs

I've not fished it for years LB but from memory i tried once on the low and all i did was get snagged and lose jigs.

It only really fishes well if the water is clear. It is also easier with no wind or an offshore breeze.

Low tide, fish to the right so you can get out to the far rocks.

Fishing to the left can also be ok as the squid can be close in the weed in about 2 to 3m depth. I've pulled quite a few from the Yak there within 20m of shore.

Headed to Marino Rocks this morning. Water was reasonably clear. Weather was a bit average, wind started to pick up and there a slight drizzle.

I had waders on so was able to get out to a nice little rock ledge and start casting around jigs.

I used slow sinking jigs, but still snagged a couple of times. Luckily I was able to clear the snag each time.

Caught 2 squid over 1.5 hours, not great but better than a doughnut.

As the tide dropped I saw a lure wedged in a rock, which turned out to be a 10g Halco twisty. Nice little find.

A good way to spend the morning.

Nice post but when your in situation like this I always use a half Oz sinker on the bottom the about 45cm above that 

Make a dropper loop and attach a clip or small swivel and attach you jig then cast out as soon as sinker hits bottom wind up slack then jig it 2-3times arraticly wind up slack pause repeat it saves you losing jigs and keeps your jigs right above the weed where they live and hide

I use this method from a boat especially when whiting are on the chew. Leave out with snagging.

Thnx rybak...deadly way of squidding hey ....I must ask the video of the red head vs bright pink where did you get or make the twin squid jag holder your using I just run 2 different sizes and colours above one another but your idea is way better and I want to get one

@ alfybabe. I have always just made my own concoction & played around until I liked my set up. I just use twist style swivels for a quick change of squid jig colour. On my whiting rig, I often attach an unweighted squid jig to the top swivel above the whiting trace. Good fun when you get a squid & whiting.
