tryin2catch1 0
Hi to all, does any one know of any video footage or a link to a website to see how you rake for blueys. I have never done or seen it done, just wondering if there is a special way or not. Cheers for the help.
Dubs The Tackle Man 0
should be able to find something on youtube everything else is on there!Otherwise just scratch around in amungst the sand look for darker spot in the sand thats a good sign a bluey will be hiding in the sand, you'll hear through your crab rake a total different sound when you have scratched a shell, scratch back toward yourself rolling the rake over at the same time and you should end up with the bluey sitting on your rake untill he starts kicking anyway.Hope that helpsDubs
Ranger 48
It's not difficult and takes about 30 seconds to learn.Arm yourself with some old footwear. You need a floating tub of some description. I've always found an old babies bath to be perfectly suited.Tie the tub around your waist with a coupla metres of rope, so that it floats behind you as you walk.Wade out to about knee depth.Rake the sand, or if there is weed beds, just rake the sand patches amongst the weed. When you hit a crab it will sound as though you've hit a rock, and you'll find many of the crabs will attach themselves to the rake. It's a simple matter of quickly inverting the rake and lifting the crab from the water in into your tub.Remember size limits (11cm blueys, 10cm sand crabs) and all females with eggs must be returned. savage480 1
There is a fishing show, that started in Tasmania, called Hook Line and Sinker. (Can be seen on Fox on Ch 183). Anyway, they went raking for crabs over at Cowell. As suggested, like everything else, this is on You Tube.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XJBqUCF_zIReasonably good look at how its done. Exactly same method as northern beaches in Adelaide.Best suggestion is to head to a popular spot like Thompsons Beach on a good low tide and see what others do. Be prepared to walk out a long way, as the tide goes out along way on these shallow flats.Great fun though and a good way to get a feed. One tip, if it isn't too hot, instead of old footwear, try waders if you have them, they can be much more comfortable than old sandshoes.
