Goolwa season has just opened. Anyone had any luck? They were mostly tiny last year without travelling for km.

Next time I have bait left over I'll think of you rather than toss it.

Polished them off Tuesday night and just looked back to find all these posts! Interstate for work hence need to consume!
Doobie I'll check your video but the reason I thought best to not gut first was due to another video I saw on another thread. By the looks of that video the butterfly fillet halves are joined at the belly rather than begind the backbone. In fact the filleting starts with a close cut along  the backbone. I'll find that video and re post it.

So not a video but a series of photos. Made sense to me to have the join at the lower portion not the flesh behind the backbone and no need to gut.

Thanks Doobie. I had a few tonight and tried a couple of ways of filleting. Seems the best way is a the butterfly fillet which you can't do once you've gutted them. Must try that next time.

    Mr Fish
Don't have as much as I thought. But if they are OK I'll use them.
The jig heads are 1/8 ounce.

Thanks but I'm having a hard time picturing that! I've never used ezyrigs either. Is this close to what you are saying which I found here: http://wp.fishingmonthly.com.au/2019/12/06/mulloway-we-will-fight-them-on-the-beaches/

Yep that's all we found. I wanted to take the car on the sand and go a few kms toward the mouth but many were getting bogged. Ours is an Outback so not a proper 4wd hence we bailed.
I'd be keen to know if there were decent sized ones to be had that we missed out on.

They have been getting hit pretty hard as usual. But the further you go towards the mouth the better the catch rate seems to be. Less people hammering it.

Elecmuso got a reaction from doobie in Hillocks or other camping / fishing options
I'm going to do a camping trip with my son in December or Jan and was thinking Hillocks Drive.
Is there much to be had at Hillocks / Butlers beach in the summer months?
Are there other Yorks spots likely to have success on the fishing side of things? I gather not the best time of year for Salmon.
Any other locations recommended for a camping/fishing trip that time of year?
West coast is probably a bit far, but still on the radar.

This is the rig I used for beach fishing for Mulloway at Middleton, baits were strips of squid, squid heads, pilchards, small whole mullet, salmon trout & even salmon & mullets fillets because they're an oily fish..
    cheers

The sand leading into the mouth would be chopped up this time of year due to extra traffic wouldn't try it with the outback,i'd probably try mullet fishing at sugars

I used to do pretty well at Somerton, been a few years since i've fished it but can't see why it would be any different now. If you can get away with fishing near people sometimes that works well as the YFW hang about feeding on what ever there feet dig up while walking about in the water.

Reckon the bit of chop that was there at somerton helped. Bites were reasonably consistent at around 230pm. Yeah we should have had more hookups!

Had no luck at Kingston park though they were there. Then gave somerton beach a go on the far side of the sand bar. Two nice YFW and a couple of undersized flattys. Not a great day but at leas not empty handed and my daughter enjoyed herself.
