  1. Recently spooled up a Symetre 1000 fj with 4lb Suffix 832. Bear in mind this is the first 8 stand braid I've used so I might be doing something wrong. First of all, it is very thick. Definitely thicker than The Power Pro 8lb on another reel. Secondly, and the main issue, is that the line tends to shred on the knot under pressure. I've gone to a double uni which doesn't shred it as easily, but I still feel it is very weak compared to other braids at the knot. The Albright knot comes up neater in other braids and hence casts further for me but with this stuff it just shreds itself. L
  2. I have no idea, was hoping you guys would know! Find it weird that, reading this, something may have affected fresh and saltwater fishing at the same time. I was thinking the barometer for a while, but traditionally the build up day to a rain has been the best for me.
  3. There is a pattern emerging here. Anyone game to guess what has put the fish off?
  4. If you rehydrated the metho treated worms in some salt water it might take off some of the smell. I always took that as the usual way to preserve worms. If your fishing the port metho could give the worms an "authentic" smell. Have heard of people dunking live prawns in kero as the big old bream associate the smell with food.
  5. Good stuff, I like the shorter (6ft)rods myself for boats and short casting myself. Found one of those lured 3rd down on the left and it swims like a champ, happy to throw in narly places too.
  6. lol projoe Yeah I figured you wouldn't put them in super hot water because I've found Z Mans less heat resistant then other plastics. I know you can dunk squidgies and the like in boiling water quickly to soften them should you get a dud batch, but any longer and I reckon you'd denature the plastic too much.
  7. Cheers that's pretty handy. How hot do you think the water was? Hot enough to burn you?
  8. Just if anyone is interested, Jarvis Walker are now distributing this in Australia. Retail from what I've seen is around $30 for 300 (yards or meters can't remember) Unsure as to wether any site sponsors stock it.
  9. Stuff that allroy. Cant say I've almost died but remember a lad I was fishing with getting a hook through the eyelid. We were smashing the whiting as well, perfect tides for big red that evening. Still fee mildly peeved thinking about it.
  10. How much pressure do you think you put on keeno? Anybody with other experiences with cranka crabs? So far we have one hooked fish, albeit a good one.
  11. That's damn insulting tinker. Puffers aren't dumb enough to eat one of these cranka craps. Be better off fastening seagull hooks to a bent nail. On a serious note, well kind of serious, has anyone caught a snapper or decent mully on these things? Or hooked a decent snag? Just test out the overall strength of the lure and trebles. I think there owner ST 14's,are they any good at taking a bit of pressure? Too bad the cranka craps don't catch fish, otherwise we could test the hooks.
  12. I'm calling out these Cranka Crabs. Nobody on this forum has caught anything on them. I can guarantee no one can post a picture of a fish caught on an cranka crab or marukyu! *insert stirring the pot icon here*
  13. Savage Gear Crabs are not on the list to get. Do you blokes not sketch out chucking Cranka Crabs around heavy structure or in big mully areas? Has anybody taken something sizeable on the crabs? How'd the hooks go?
  14. If I still lived down there I'd be snorkelling with the seals after it. Oh well, at least it opens a window for new gear
  15. Wondering if anybody has seen or used these? Saw some in BCF this arvo and they look the goods. Apparently made from a 3D image of an Juvenile crab, good colour range, come either pre rigged or with loose with the option to buy specialist jig heads. Rears up on the bottom, can be fished with a normal jighead. May be a cheaper replacement to the Cranka Crabs.
  16. Geez that sucks Alex. Did you hold onto the Symetre? I dunked my 1000 for 5-10 seconds wading for whiting, 10 months later and can't feel any difference. May have helped that I had a bottle of fresh water to wash it off though.
  17. This winter has been average. Haven't gone for a saltwater fish for ages and the freshwater scene has been the most fickle fishing I've ever dealt with. Either a donut or pulling them in hand over fist. All good fish, had 6 or more Reds over 34cm the other night. Haven't landed a fish under 20cm in a few weeks.
  18. Nobody finds light braid roughs up in the surf? Only used heavy braid and mono surf fishing myself. Personally I use an ET special 5-8kg or Livefibre 2-5kg, depending on what I'm casting. Both are 9ft.
  19. I can't imagine it would have better abrasion resistance than a braid of equivalent strength. One "fibre" and thinner would wear through quickly wouldn't it? Although if it is of equiv diameter it might be more abrasion resistant.
  20. There are a few around, not many creeks or rivers are easily accessed though, climbing, clinging to small cliffs and those god dam blackberries slow you down pretty fast. Have a look at public parks in the hills and you should find some dams soon enough.
  21. How has this line held up Cal? Could it be the mythical super line of legend?
  22. What are some of the weirdest things you've seen out fishing?
