Just quietly, the people flocking to stores now is exactly the opposite of what we should be doing.
All these people flooding the stores when it is clear that supermarkets will still be open during lockdown; why?
The people then crowd and cause chaos, potentially spreading it even more.
Just wear a face covering and go during the lockdown people, it's all good. Be efficient and plan things well and it'll be fine.

I'd understand shops that will be locked down such as Bottle shops even more so, but man, this is a great way to spread a virus, by cramming into tight spaces on mass.

Yeah fair enough, it's unfortunate that all the people stockpiling for the apocalypse make it that your average Joe needs to get involved for a carton of eggs.

This whole year has shown how mass hysteria in the population just stops people thinking things through.

True but last time we waited and couldn't get the basics (milk, bread, eggs and meat) - so wasn't going to risk it this time

Yeah bang for buck on special you can get a lot of the savage stuff really cheap.

If you've got the gumption to ask for a bit of the price to be knocked off the savage stuff, they often will do it just to keep stock moving in my experience

I've found this also. I tend to think it is for the following reasons

-Lighter flouro holds up better than the equivalent breaking strain mono, therefore you'll be using it in a situation where you may call for mono 50% to 100% stronger again than the flouro.
    - I've caught decent fish on 5lb flouro in complete comfort, knowing the line won't have any issues, but the same fish I would have needed to have been nervous fishing even 10lb Trilene or 6lb magnathin. Maxima ultragreen on the other hand in an 8lb or so I wouldn't have been too concerned, but I don't believe I would have got the bite due to the other characteristics of the line.

For me fluro for trace wins in every way except price and I will personally never go back, I can't say I've tried them all of course but the ones ive chosen to use, BCF Kato, Berkley, and a number of randoms from clearance racks I thought looked good, have significantly out performed my old mono traces, schroeder, schneider, maxima, platypus and many others, in every way.
It's not all just subjective either, sure I've done the underwater look for myself thing (fluro wins easy for my eyes) but also fished the 2 side by side in the type of conditions that count eg drummer in reef, snapper off the rocks bream around cover and also when fish are touchy and again fluro easily was better for abrasion resistance and seemed to keep getting bites when nothing touched the mono.
The only bit i do agree with a tiny bit is the knot strength BUT only on average if you count every knot tied. Poor knots will fail in fluro where mono is more forgiving so properly test the knot to see if it is going to fail before using, normally any issues with the knot and it goes well below breaking strain, but if you get it right then again much better than mono.
Oh, it's normally significantly less stretchy too, like wayyyy less.
So when I see these types of claims I'm just not buying it and calling click bait because hard work and experience has taught me otherwise.

Personally used nylon leaders up until relatively recently and don't think I'll go back in the lighter line classes; that is to say anything under 20lb.

Flouro is more abrasion resistant, lasts longer without weakening and personally I find it is less prone to breaking in the knot than the nylons I previously used. I used Maxima, YGK, Berkley trilene, Stren magnathin etc etc and the rockfish FC outperforms them all.

In anything over 15lb I use black magic leader material. Really rate it for everything from surface whiting (yes I use 20lb for yfw) to livebaiting kings, bottom bashing etc etc
Edit: should add that the shorter spool lengths of Flouro do mean you replace them more often and probably help when it comes to not letting the line get too old; which is probably a good thing for anyone that doesn't remember the exact date and Moon phase on which they bought that spool of mono.

Don't think you'll find much in the way of nippers down there.
The bream lakes are good fun, definitely an option when the beach is quiet or weather doesn't allow.

Both Robe and Kingston jetties can hold an assortment at times. Flathead and smaller salmon pretty common. Not my first choice to fish but an easy option if all else fails.

Well these are at the 2nd last stage of the lure painting process.
Just added my signature on the bottom of the lures and added the 2nd and final clear coat to them.
The last stage is fitting terminal tackle and test swimming before sale...
It's not as simple as paint lures and your ready to fish. It takes plenty of prep work and tedious bits amd pieces to produce lures like this...
It has taken 2 weeks of prepping. Drying. Clear coating etc just to complete 10 lures...
That's what makes it much sweeter and rewarding when you sell one and someone catches a fish on them...
Keep an eye out as I'll put these up for sale on here 1st before i post elsewhere...

Might add some red speckle to the brown trout pattern though...
These will be up for sale in the next few days if you are looking for some trout lures..
They come rigged with bbk hooks.

If you managed to get onto any bent minnow blanks, Southie, I'd be very interested. Anywhere from 70mm to 180mm I'd have a use for them.

AquaticResearch1 reacted to Plectropomus in bruising on beach mulloway -- any theories??
Parasitologist Dr Kate Hutson replied to my email and sent some interesting papers and a photo. Here is her reply:
    "....
.  About two years ago some fishers were seeing this quite a bit in SA on mulloway and some photos were sent to me (among others). It was confirmed as the skin fluke, Benedenia sciaenae by some folks based in SA who got to sample some fish.  See attached paper by my PhD supervisor Ian Whittington (now deceased). This is a monogenean ectoparasite that feeds on skin cells and mucous. Fish tend to get irritated and (presumably in an attempt to dislodge them) will rub (‘flash’) against surfaces. This can lead to secondary infections – bacteria usually. I’ve found B. sciaenae in wild fish in SA and it is not uncommon.  I have not seen the clinical signs of disease progression on wild fish in person, just photos.  To diagnose, immerse the fish skin in fresh water and the parasites (transparent when alive) will die and turn opaque/white (see photo attached; the big sucker to the right is the posterior end).  Of course, it could be something else entirely, but this is the most likely diagnosis.
As to the reasons for not seeing it on fish from other states… well I’ve seen it in farmed A. japonicus (mulloway) in NSW, so it can occur there.  It could be seasonal.  It could be infection intensity.  It is not unusual for capsalid monogeneans to be site specific. We found adults might congregate for mating and new recruits seem to bury under the scales in some species (see my student’s paper attached)........"
So, the parasite is definitely in SA fish and the "rub it off" reaction would cause the rash/brusing and associated inflammation/secondary bacterial infection.  It is interesting to see a related species lives under barramundi scales. So, I have scratched my itch on this one!!!

    Hi all..
I recently got a Watersnake PFD jacket from WA on special for $69 + $20 to post.....In red so its easily seen. Arrived today. Tried it on and its comfortable to wear.. Fits well..
way below half price..... Im getting old and not as strong a swimmer as I used to be.. so I thought that this would be a great idea... Had to try at that price... Hope I don't have to use it, but you never know....
Also got the new Storm Biscay minnows soft plastics to try on salmon this year for something different.. Not cheap but looks the part..
I got the 90mm and the 120mm.... Should work on flatheads as well...
Cant wait to go away again... Might do the bottom of Yorks for a week or 2 soon....
    Mike
