Finally one of my regular rivers had dropped to a level that was safe for wading, it was still a little higher than I preferred. The water temperature was up to 11 degrees as well, much better than the six degrees that's it been on. Even though the trout were a little scarce it was good to get onto a couple of nice rainbows, my first for the season. Thanks for watching..
    cheers

Did anyone receive a fishing related Fathers Day Gift?
My son (9 years old) gave me a selection of squid jigs. Amazingly they are all jigs I would have selected 😉. My wife knows I'm a hard person to buy gifts for, so we have a simple arrangement; I buy what I want and store items away in a cupboard, then whether its my birthday, Christmas, etc,. and people ask her what to buy me, she can just go to the cupboard and grab an item. It's a win win, she doesn't have to shop for me and I get what I really want 😀.
The jigs are a mix of rattle, UV, and different weights for different sink rates. There are 3 size 3.0 rattle jigs that are slow sinking, 6 sec/m, for some shallow rocky areas I fish. The Yamashita Egi  OH K is a really nice jig, extremely well made; it is UV reflective and has a little fin at the back to help it stay balanced when sinking. This is a pretty heavy jig for a size 3.5 at 22g (the Daiwa size 3.5 are 18.5g), and has a sink rate of 3sec/m so sinks twice as fast as the 3.0 type S by Daiwa.

Finally after several days of rain we finally had a nice Spring day so I headed of to check out one of my regular large rivers only to find it running too high for safe wading.  I did spend a little time there flicking a #1 Aglia-e inline spinner around before heading off to my favorite & ever reliable small tannin stream. That was also running high, much high than my previous trip a week ago,, anyway I spent some time in it and caught & released a few wild browns..  cheers Adrian..

With weather like today, how can you not go fishing. Was able to head for the hills this morning. Wasn't really fussed if I caught anything or not, happy to be outside in some sun.

Caught these two guys on a black and orange nymph. Tied half a dozen last night. Come home with two. Only using 2lb tippet.

When I came across this guy, I knew for certain the hills where waking up..

Some ruff stuff. That gets the job done. Carry bunch of woolys and drys too

A mate of Mine and Doobies called Dave😉 went out 2 days ago, for a short session with a mate and got outfished 13 to 0.

Same baits, same boat, same everything - they even swapped rods at one stage.

So sometimes the striking technique you have chosen for that day, doesnt match up with the way the fish are feeding and it can make one bloke think they were timid and another think they were bighting well

I normally wait until spring for the first trout fish. After reading @styla report, thought I'd give it a crack myself.
Expecting alot of water. Forecast only 11 degrees and the odd shower.

Spotted and spooked a few fish before my first. All juveniles. This guy fell to a simple grub pattern.

Another sitting in the fast wash

Glad I got out and had a look. will wait until it warms up a little and flow slows before I try again.

Seeing no one answered the question I purchased one the other day . Just under $10 ,$9.95 . Doesn’t cast as far as a DC and if you rewind to fast it jumps out the water surface . Now saying that today’s ST 8 should’ve been 10 . This one was black with red eyes can’t wait until the bream are hungry

How do you feel about Mavic Pro? I consider buying this model, I've read a lot about it, but I'd better get any recommendations from those who have used it? How smooth is it? Is it simple to use?

If I’d had a shallow spool when hooked this on 6lb leaders, it could have all been over by the second run

instead he ran back under a bridge so I had to jump in the water- wade through balls deep mud - swim for a bit- then pick my line of snags with my head under water  and then stuff around for ages trying to get him back
All that hassle could have been avoided if I’d just used a shallow spool😉

Could this be the ultimate jetty tackle box ?.
By adding a cooler bag to the bottom section with some ice to keep food or bait cool would be handy on those hotter days, plenty of room to store some warmer clothing or wet weather gear.Room for torch spare reel, rags and water for washing hands.Throw in some storage trays with squid lures weights hooks and swivels. On the lid you could put on a cutting board and ruler for measuring fish.
Or use the cutting board for filleting fish or squid while waiting for the next one and throw them into the cooler. This box is weather proof and will not rust also you could hook on one of those alloy lightweight folding chairs to the box so you only have to carry a few rods in one hand and the other on the box handle. These will fit on the back seat of the car standing upright and just put the safety belt on it to keep it in place.
Bunnings have these and in the link they have a video.

I like redfin. Don't like Karen.

Redfin are pigs. Have caught 6" redfin on 10" scrubworms and they were hooked deep.

There is a Karen at Wynn Vale dam that I call the goose lady.

She likes to feed the ducks and geese right next to where we are fishing wherever we are.

Gets angry when the birds she is feeding get tangled up in our lines but hates it even more when we cuddle the ducks and safely remove the line and let them go.

I think she wants to cuddle the ducks too but when she tries to they bite her.

They're an effective deterrent and often fearless, when it comes to a lake they have campaigned hard, to keep anglers out of. Kind of like a swan in mating season - there is no way they can hurt you but they just keep on coming at ya

I have worked out a few strategies to repel male "Karens" but they arent PC to implement on the fairer sex😉

Yeah I dont often see the freshwater surface activity, like in the start of the vid. I mean I've seen it - Just not that often.

But the other day, I was scouting a suburban lake. (Finding no fishing signs was hard to take). But I figured I'd take a stroll anyway. I didnt know if it had anything in it other than the carp I was spotting - then the place just starts boiling in the middle of a sunny afternoon.

I did have a rod in the car but the joint had a few potential local "Karens" lurking around- so I just had to walk away and leave them boiling.

Something triggered a few separate schools to go on the hunt around the lake at the same time - Plenty of unlucky guppies skimming across the water that arvo.

Looking at these again the green one brings back memories of me landing bream and STs on flies roughly that colour . Could be a killer on the fish .

Bored in lockdown, so some brag posts showing me lurid lures (tm) landed fish.

This is a nice vibe, I don't know if or what it's a ripoff of, but casts very well and vibrates really nice. Shit in weed though as the nose rakes it up. The pished pilly colour was lost to rocks.

A bit less vibration on this guy, more suited to deeper water than the surf I think where you can teabag a bit and really work it.
Was really interesting that the fly rod laded bigger fish easier because the entire length of the rod is taking load compared to the top half of the spin rod, which was a 6-12kg medium heavy action.
Green lure is 88mm, blue is 72mm if you're trying to work out the salmon size. I didn't measure a single fish with was a tad stupid

Ahhh yeah - I’ve heard of copper strips being used to deter snails
The tin was supposed to offer a collection device so they would go in and stay in
but the results so far suggest im better off just burying hunks of pumpkin on their own
i haven’t checked it in a couple of days so I’ll have a look now and cross my fingers for a miracle…..

ok that’s worse than before - zero worms this time
theres plenty of worms in there so I’ll chuck it back without the tin

Might not like metal as it might react with the acids or alkalis on their bodies. I know snails have that problem.

theres something about that tin they dont like - maybe if I packed dirt around the pumpkin it would work better - but I was saving that space for the millions of worms I thought it would attract.😉

Im also thinking it might be a bit shallow - might dig it in a little deeper
