  1. The slingshot 4-piece has served me well for two years now - comes with spare tip and so easy to pack when I visit my parents in WA..

    New gear

Awesome rod that one, I have the spin equivalent and absolutely love it!
  3. drifting is fun as long as you don't get caught:
  4. Awesome footage - now to figure out how to do that in my mini-x
  5. Most of the rods on this site : http://www.fishingtackleshop.com.au/have recommended reel sizes in the rod descriptions eg: http://www.fishingtackleshop.com.au/products/shimano-aerowave-graphite-fishing-rod-model-1303-13ft-8-15kg.html
  6. I'd recommend Sea Lion braid from Ebay - they seem to have generally positive reviews and are shipped from Melbourne. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/281677163072 It will arrive far quicker than Aliexpress (I ordered some squid jigs shipped 4 weeks ago and still no sign of them ) and the breaking strains are pretty accurate according to this line testing site: http://www.paulusjustfishing.com/
  7. I'll be spending my would-be fishing time trying to make some small mods on my kayak I reckon
  8. Chris__64 - got mine on special for $169
  9. @Thanks - this was from Richmond BCF. Will probably try and return it tomorrow
  10. Hi All, Tonight I decided to splurge a bit on a decent reel and got the Stradic FJ2500 on special at BCF. Upon opening and giving it a few cranks at home, I noticed it is not as smooth as I was expecting and the internal gears make more noise than my Sienna's did when they were new. I'm not sure is this is something to be concerned about, or if it just needs a bit of oil as it's probably been sitting on a shelf for a while. Anyone own one of these reels and notice they are a touch noisy (maybe due to more complex internal gearing than my Sienna?) as well ?
  11. Weirdest thing I have seen in my relatively short fishing experience was at Glenelg jetty a few months back. I was squidding while my mate was going for fish, and he hooked up a small snapper of around 30cm. As he was reeling it in, we noticed it was being stalked by a squid - that was no bigger than the snapper!! I managed to tempt the overly-ambitious squid onto a jig and my friend finished reeling in and releasing the snapper. It was pretty cool seeing a squid in action like that - pulsating waves of colour as it approached the fish - just couldn't believe it thought it stood a chance of c
  12. Thanks for the tips guys - think I will go with a loop at the end of my main line and then attach other tackle to that. Any recommendations on a strong loop ? Looking online the Non-Slip or Perfection loops look like they would do OK
  13. Is there any problem with attaching a hook directly to a snap swivel ? What I am thinking is: 1) attach a small snap to the end of my mono-line so that when I pack up my rods I don't have to cut the line 2) When I go squidding, I'll just attach the jig directly 3) When I go carping I'll attach the hook straight to the snap
  14. Hi All, Just wondering how people manage their reel / line between session - I was thinking of buying a small swivel that can fit through the smallest eye on my rod so that I don't have to cut the line after each session. Does anyone else do this, or is the amount of line you lose by cutting after each session negligible compared to the potential weakness introduced by having an extra breaking point in the line?
  15. An interesting read on the topic: http://www.ifs.tas.gov.au/publications/carp-baits-trial-1
