I use a "Nail Knot", and use the tool to do them... All my light gear, ie less than 15kg braid to fluoro, even my fly gear .. Small tight knot that goes through guides easily.. Doesn't take too much time to retie. SF

SaltyFlyer replied to The Fishing Guru's topic in How to guides and DIY projects
Do we have a link to these little contraptions .... Look very portable, and the picture on the hand held unit looked very clear !!! As brutus said, not only good for crabs, whiting, and i would say, snapper as well ...... !! Nice little video guys SF -
Been watching the Ramp Cams this morning from very early this morning Been a very steady flow of boats out from Nth Haven O'Sullies Ramp Cam is Out of Action ..... West Beach is blurry to say the least, but not a lot has left from there, as compared to Nth Haven Looks like a LOT of People, taking a "Sickie" today ..... LOL SF

Knowing when a river is at the right height for safe fishing..
SaltyFlyer replied to Meppstas's topic in General Fishing
Adrian, that is a HUGE difference in SAFE / UNSAFE ... Looks like it might be a while before it is safe to go back out 'wading' in your favourite rivers / creeks ... Going by the above chart ... is that 2.5 Giga Litres flowing ??? Is this due to the Snow run off, or just the huge amount of rains that you have been experiencing lately in Tassie ? SF -
Trout fishing the hard to get to streams/creeks...
SaltyFlyer replied to Meppstas's topic in General Fishing
Gee Adrian, Don't those Trout go golden Brown when in that tannin water .. look very spectacular in the net shots .. Can't forget the Scenery shots, all I can say is WOW !!! That last shot in particular, would not surprise me if you got to see some elusive "Tassie Devils" in there Another great effort on the trout, and as usual spectacular scenery SF -
Big squid, east coast Tassie..
SaltyFlyer replied to Meppstas's topic in Brag Board & Largest Species
That IS a LOT of Calamari right there ...... I did spy a bite mark near it's tip .... Probably mating time ..... reckon its dancing partner would have been just as BIG !!!! SF -
I use that "Tackle Guard" as well , very good stuff .... light spray over the reel, and spray on a small rag, and wipe over as well ...... I also use light machine oil .. (Singer Sewing Machine Oil) .. very good for line rollers and handles ... cheap too .... Just remember that WD40 is not a LUBE .... it will eat grease !!!!! WD40 is a powerful solvent that dissolves lubes, so it should be used only to clean reel parts before applying lubes. Unfortunately a large number of people think it's a lube and that does a lot of harm. SF

Dylbaa This one from G-Loomis looks just about right ..... G.Loomis E6X 752 BS 6'3" 8-20lb Spin Rod On Special from online shop SneakyFisho , under $220 ..... Worth thinking about SF

Hate it when a tip goes, especially when you have not even caught a fish yet ....... Here's hoping you went down the easiest and cheapest way ..... hot melt glue and a new tip .... Yes, IF you are LUCKY, the manufacturer may have new spare sections, but it WILL cost you $$$$$ If you have to go "original", then spend the $$$ , keep the old section, fix it up later, and then you will have 2 rods with different actions SF

Adrian, very nice set up of web cams covering some of the Major Lakes. Also a very different account of weather conditions as well ... wind, rain and in some, sunshine .. Nice SF
