    G'day all,
Nearly all my fishing these days is done with lures, but I cannot resist the temptation to go out and scoop up what I see as the prime bait for metro land based fishing... The mighty Bloodworm.🙌
Soooo much fun... Out on the rocks in the pitch black on a windy wintery night with a head torch and a net.😉👍
Last nights conditions were, what I see, as just about prefect for land based collection session. I chose a slightly different spot than in previous years after a little recon the night before. Worked out well as I left after about an hour with plenty of worms, for my needs, and they were still running out in big numbers.👌

Sunset from the night before sussing out a good position.🤔😉

    The view last night.

    The Bloodworms.🙂

    Cheers.

    Sounds like WTF 'gliss', Mick.

Single strand polyethylene, casts a long way and abrasion resistance good. Can't fault it really, but wouldn't like it in anything > snapper on plastics pressure wise IMO. But that's just a gut feel not based on anything solid.

dmck asked me the other day if my photos on my last article were straight of the camera and those ones were..
So I thought I would show what can be done with photos that are taken on a camera that has a low picture quality as was my first digital camera that I purchased not long after digital cameras were released in Australia..
Mine was a very cheap little one as that was what I could afford at the time as they were just so expensive just like digital TV's were when they were first released here.. Here's a couple of photos to show what can be done with a little work on them with my Windows photo gallery editor.. I can crop them, sharpen the image, increase or decrease the contrast, two photos were taken back in 2014 and were both taken on a reasonably good Canon Compact Camera but a cheaper one.. The sunrise at Little Musselroe Bay was taken at 4:30 am on my very first digital camera & I have no idea what brand it was, it was very small & cheap but it was handy & what I could afford at the time in 2006 (I think it was) Since then the digital compact cameras have come a long way with much higher megapixels, better lenses, higher opitical zoom ranges and even much easier to use as well. Any way here what can be done to give low quality photos a lift..
Even with my new small Canon compact camera after taking a photo on Auto & if I don't feel the photo looks okay I will edit it.. Manually taken photos I don't have a problem with at all..
    cheers

Have just received my new camera for my fishing trips, I have upgraded from the Canon SX150IS camera which was still a great camera, I  upgraded to a Canon SX620HS which is much smaller but has a bit more in reserve,, 20.2 megapixels & 25 times optical zoom and a host of different settings which I'm yet  to tr, at the moment I'm using Auto mode.  Just took a few in the river yesterday and a few at sunrise , bumble bee  on Banksia flower and sunset tonight.

The Goshawk was some 60 feet away from where I was standing in the river.. even though it's white it's called Grey..

Just a heads up guys. Came across an instagram account tonight masqurading as a young lady who fishes adelaide hills creeks and streams for trout.
None of her photos are Legit, and a reverse image search revealed at least one of the photos she is claiming as her own is actually one of Meppsta's (I presume)

The account is https://www.instagram.com/ruzzomelissa/ if anyone wants to check it out for any of there own pictures.

Nice pic Adrian. Watched a doco on them that was an eye opener. In some cases after mating, while the male is catching his breath, the female turns around, grabs him and chews his head clean off. Nasty girls.......

SaltyFlyer reacted to Knackers in Recycling a lead acid battery for sinkers, is it worth it ???
The lead in old batteries will mostly be in the form of lead oxide and lead suphates. I think you have to melt it with carbon or something to extract pure lead suitable for sinkers. Plus there is lead sludge in there as well. There is a bit on the web about this and the consensus is it is not worth it.

A mate of mine, much older than me, and a very long time ago, found a very large number (100+) of old batteries that had been dumped illegally out in the scrub. They thought of sinkers or selling the lead so they poured all the acid out and restacked the batteries. Then, as you do in the '70s, they set fire to the pile to burn the plastic off. He reckoned there was bugger all lead left that had melted into pools.

Bi carb of soda will neutralise the acid.

DAmned good question... I have a number of old batteries too......

My mate reckons it will be easier to sell the batteries for scrap then buy the lead!!  but theres no fun in that!!

If you want head even further west, you can try a spot at which I've previously had success a few years ago. It's at Middleton, just out from the car park near Bondi Place...lot less crowded as well.

Took the young fella and my old lady down for a swim & cockling session today. Wanted to try Adrian's suggested but went Goolwa's main beach instead - to do the right thing & swim between the flags .
Arrived ~10am carpark was full, easily 50+ 4x4s parked up the beach towards the mouth. Beach pretty popular with families, grommets ect and a few other groups of 'cocklers' out.
Given  we were pretty close to the main carpark, things were a bit thin, as expected! Still managed 100 or so in a casual hr. Only measured a few and probably discarded a 1/3. I'm pretty good eye-balling sizes and also recon "if i have to measure, it's too small and can go back".
Son was more interested in in digging holes, making sand castles and mucking around at his first true surf beach (apposed to West or Semaphore). Nevertheless i had him chasing some in the wash as i did the 'shuffle'.
Also managed to get a blister on the end of a big toe which split and filled with sand
Left after 2.5hrs of hot sunshine. Almost mandatory d**khead bogged on the 4x4 beach access. (im no car person) looked like a Territory. Wonder if he thought he had a 4x4 but was only the 2x4 model?  Was impressed that i saw one (but only 1 ) bloke dropping his tyre pressures.

Nice to get down there UP and the kids to muck around too on the beach.
Yep in front of the main car park is pretty thin for cockles as you say, but still fun for all without having manouvre between all the 4x4's further down the beach.  Just go down there when a more serious collect is needed
