  1. What gets me is why does Coles send the fish to Asia for processing, then send it back to us for sale? I wouldn't trust ANYTHING, especially food stuffs from Asia...
  2. Nice spot... Is it full of people? will be cold though..... Good luck....
  3. I was on Pt Wakefield rd yesterday arvo... Bloody mad.. Im glad I decided to stay away.... One good thing.. Plenty of burley going in the water this weekend... Might head down that way Tuesday for the week..
  4. Check this out.. Would work on most small fish....
  5. Yep.. As I thought.. Smart people stay away.... Will be a mad weekend.... If the weather holds.. I might go to Yorks Tuesday for a few days.. Crowds should of gone by then.. Wind/weather looks good for the bottom to try for this years first winter salmon... and the mullet should be there.. And GKW off the beaches at night in coming tide as its a full moon.. Its coming off the land.. The west coast looks good, I couldn't be bothered driving there just for a few days.. Ill do that later.. Mike
  6. Hi all.. Im curious to know where people are going this weekend? If any are that is.. Im not going anyware as I suspect its going to be mad, ignorant people every ware..... and very cold as well. I was going to do a few days with the missus, filled the bus, packed and ready to go... But we pulled out, don't want stress.... One good thing.. I got diesel @ 1.02 litre.. Filled the bus and 10 x 20 litre drums for future use.. Pitty as the winds/tides/moon look good.... Coming off the land.. Yorks looks good on the Western side... Ill do my fishing when no one is about... Much better. Mike
  7. Good luck.. hope it works for you... Might have to get together one day and work this drone fishing thing out together..
  8. Let me know how you guys go... Im looking forward to my drone.. Hope its what I want.. Very expensive bit of gear... Mike
  9. Hi all.. I decided to give a new reel a miss.. Ill use what I have initially, then go from there.... My thoughts about the baitrunner is that the baitrunner drag might be too loose, and will get dragged about.... I have a decent overhead reel.. Might try that if I need BIG distance.. Ta for the input guys..
  10. Dinga Aus have them on special with a spool of 300yards of 8ply braid for $233 shipped? has anyone used Dinga before? I liked that the Penn has a machined brass gear as to a cast alumin one... Its water tight... Cheaper than the shimano with a good capacity.... But having a preset baitrunner? I wonder if I can tighten the baitrunner drag.. After doing a bit of reading.. I see that the Shimano's have an adjustable baitrunner tension.. where as the Penn has 4 preset settings I like the Penns features, But Im tending to like the Shimano as I can adjust the baitrunner tension.... Cant find a lot of reviews on them... so Just guessing about the shimano….
  11. I just had a look at the Penn.... It has the line capacity, has the drag weight of 18kg.... It has a slower retrieve of 4.7:1.... Will that matter? they are roughly the same price, to the Shimano C14+.. But the baitrunner is preset on the Penn? Is the Shimmano reel baitrunner preset? Ide like to be able to set it to the weight I want. Im going to be fishing high, over the waves.. so hopefully the wave wash wont matter to me... and I used to have the older Penn gold reels 30+ years ago... brilliant reels.. Are the new generation of Penns the same quality?
  12. Thanks for that Kelvin.. Im after line capacity/set and forget features... I was going to use my overhead reel, But It has a slow wind speed and will take ages to wind in.. I have a BIG threadline real... I was watching a vid of someone using a BAITRUNNER reel and thought that that is what I need..... I realy like how it works as a baitrunner….. I will be using off beaches.. Im care full with my gear.. and when set with the drone.. I will be up high in the dunes. well that's the plan anyways.. Im a lazy fisherman.. Who likes to set and forget... Hence why the baitrunner? The shimano has the most line capacity in all the baitrunners I looked and has a 10year warranty..... Wont buy Kastking, etc.. They are junk. Mike
  13. In WA they are smashing the snappers off the beaches.. Ive pre ordered the Gannet Pro water proof fishing drone.. Got it at an intro price.. saved $100... Yet to arrive due to the Coronavirus crap.. Should be here by the end of July, fingers crossed... Its a new design, water proof, has a bladder, can land and take off from water, live feed on controller.. Can carry 2kilo.... with the tried and tested DJI circuit board/software.. I ordered the camera as well.... Just hope it works as promised.. was this or a yak... prefer to keep my feet dry.. LOL..
  14. Hi all... Im thinking of buying the Shimano Big Baitrunner Long cast real C14+.... to use with my drone.. Why this reel.. I reacon a baitrunner is better than a standard spin reel for this type of set and forget fishing.. It can hold 500+ yards of .35 50lb braid... Has 20kg drag... 5.3:1 gear ratio.. fast retrieving. Is a bait runner for the long drops chasing BIG stuff. Fishing around 200-300meters from shore. On special... 20% off Shimano quality.. To be mated to my Samaki Xtreme Surf rod 120SXH-12" long, 20-40lb line, cast weight of 3-6oz. What do you guys think of this reel? or is there 1 better for around the $300 mark? Mike
  15. Hi all.. I recently got a Watersnake PFD jacket from WA on special for $69 + $20 to post.....In red so its easily seen. Arrived today. Tried it on and its comfortable to wear.. Fits well.. way below half price..... Im getting old and not as strong a swimmer as I used to be.. so I thought that this would be a great idea... Had to try at that price... Hope I don't have to use it, but you never know.... Also got the new Storm Biscay minnows soft plastics to try on salmon this year for something different.. Not cheap but looks the part.. I got the 90mm and the 120mm.... Should work on flatheads as well... Cant wait to go away again... Might do the bottom of Yorks for a week or 2 soon.... Mike
  16. Hi all.. Ive been trying to find out if this lockdown includes stopping us/me form going camping/fishing? I was planning to go to the west coast for 2-3 weeks soon... Not too sure what applies now? I still want to go.. Will stay away from people.. (which I do anyways)…. Mike
  17. Fg knot..... Never had issues.. Use it on 6lb braid to 10lb leader all the way up to 80lb braid to 120lb leader.. I cheat though and use the FG knot tool.. works for me.. Landed a ray, held up no probs.. 50lb braid to 80lb leader...
  18. Your a talented man.. They look good.. well done.. Post pics of the catches..
  19. OK.. Ill try that.. I have some 7/0 circle hooks that Im going to use and they have the offset eye.. Its bloody tough stuff to tie.... Ill work it out.. Might loose a fish or 2 learning though.. Ive landed 10kilo snapper with the way I tie my hooks.. But the fish Im targeting are way more aggressive..
  20. Hi all.. ta for all the input. I practiced some rigs.. Im happy with tying the hooks/swivels on.... Ill give it a go and see what happens... I used the snell unit knot to hooks and the uni knot to the swivel.. Ill go FG from leader to braid, then uni knot from leader to swivel... Mike
  21. Hi mate.. I like it.. works well, easy to use and Im yet to have a knot come undone.. Best $45 Ive ever spent. I started using my hands.. too hard/frustrating, then made a gadget, see pics. It worked ok but tended to put kinks in the line due to having to be tight to work, then did some u tubing and seen this... It can tie 6lb braid to 8lb leader no probs.... Ive tied 50lb braid to 80lb leader no probs... doesn't kink the line and the knots are tight.. Mike
  22. I like to fish very minimalistic. I only have the wading bag, rod/reel, spare spool ready to go, little box of lures, water, scent, fish oil, a couple of rags, one to wrap the keepers in and keep soaking in water and one to wipe my hands/grab the fish, pocket knife, scissors. The FG knot gadget, spool of .28mm leader. If I have to tie a new leader, I generally walk to solid ground sit down and do it.. Me ,wading shoes in summer, waders in winter, fags and some decent weather.... If I get some keepers its a bonus, but if not, theres always small stuff about and I do enjoy the experience of it all... Im only after a couple, for a feed and tend to let most go.. Mike
  23. Im always changing lures.. Hence why I choose clips.... I have my goto lures, but always trying new ones.... Way to hard tying while standing, my old eyes aint as good as they used to be..
  24. Clips on most lures, but Ive found that tying straight to lure with a tight knot if using sugar pens or similar helps with the walk dog action.. If using straight retrieve, I use clips...... The splash prawns don't like clips.. They keep diving under water.. if tied straight to leader they work a treat... Blades work well with clips.... My opinion, but each to their own.. Mike
