Nice work.. some great condition fish there! They don't have a whole lot of fight but I've really taken to chasing the Golden's lately.

I'm having withdraws already now they have shut the Warren Reservoir :(

Cheers Softy. They certainly aren't pulling too much string on the cod gear, but the big models certainly go hard on to 10lb outfits ;)

  2. Great footage bringing back fond memories.

I lived up in the Pilbara during the 80's and fished from Coral Bay to Broome, and as you say, awesome country and fishing.

Highlight for me was spending 8 days starting on Boxing Day 1985 on 2 Marlin Broadbills camped out on the Monte Bello islands about 80km off the Dampier Archipelago.

Fishing and diving there was the best in my 58 years of fishing. Where we camped we had large turtles coming up the beach to lay their eggs whilst other eggs were hatching and thousands of little turtles scurrying to the water to avoid the gulls.

During one hookah diving trip we managaed a crayfish that fed 6 of us and some seagulls, it was a monster!!

Wow brutus, sounds like an epic trip - and to live there it must have been amazing!

I briefly hooked a marlin out the back of cassini Island on spin gear. Massive fish and I've never seen line get stripped from a reel so quickly!

Plenty of turtles on the beaches and in the water too, simply magnificent to watch :)

Didn't dive for any crays for fear of being eaten lol however we did get some magnificent mud crabs and black lipped oysters.

  3. Very good at making these videos.

Would be interested on what set up you have, and what software you are using.... most video editing software is very CPU and RAM intensive ...

Also, what is your source video from ? GoPro ?

    Really enjoy your videos ....

Glad you enjoyed them SaltyFlyer :)

I mainly use Windows Movie Maker and occasionally Adobe Premiere Pro to edit these videos. All done on a laptop with an intel Core 2.4Ghz i7 processor, 8Gb RAM, 1 Terrabyte HDD. Original footage shot with Sony Action Cam, Pentax K30 DSLR or iPhone 5s.

  4. Risk = Reward? Not Always!

Many moons ago a mate and I decided to attempt a beach launch at Sellicks Beach. Seas were flat, tide was in, but there was a fair swell running. After watching the sets for a while we both agreed "she'll be right". Mate backed the Jeep down the crummy ramp and I pushed the tinny off the trailer. As soon as the boat was free of the trailer my mate started driving up the ramp and I attempted to turn the boat seaward. As I was doing this I was horrified to see a wave at least 3 times the size of the others we had been watching just meters from me and the boat which was now parallel to the approaching green wall of water. Being on the beach side of the tinny I had nowhere to go. I grabbed the gunnel as the wave took us both back to the beach at a great rate of knots. I now had become a passenger. I remember quickly looking towards the beach horrified to see that my mate had not fully left the ramp and now I was effectively the meat in the sandwich between the boat and the trailer. I literally had a split second to make a call. I let go of the boat and somehow got under the water just as the tinny went straight over me and crashed sideways into the boat trailer whilst I slammed underneath the trailer. God knows how I didn't hit my head but my torso bore the brunt of the impact and I lost my glasses in the process. I have never been so black and blue in my life.

You know when people say that their life flashes before their eyes? This was one of those moments. I could hardly speak let alone drive home for a few hours after that episode. All I could think about was how stupid that I could have made my wife a widow and left my newborn son without a father just to catch a bloody fish.

We have since worked out that launching at Aldinga is a far better option :)
