Thought I'd review a few things I've been buying that might help people out. I pay for everything, nothing is sponsored and I have no affiliation with any stores I mention.
Rod is USG-SP 461UL 1-3kg 7-18g, a 1 piece but at 4.6 feet that's not an issue. I bought this rod for flats fishing would you believe, mainly bait where I'm towing a tub behind me and casting sinkers. The length means I can turn around and drop the fish straight into the tub, no dicking with a net. This has worked out well.
However, the rod continues to surprise me just how versatile it is. I can cast a 7g lure almost as far as I can with my 7' rod, though not as easily. It's not as sensitive either but it's not bad, and is quite usable as a hardbody/SP rod even if not optimal - but where it's great is it fit's easily already rigged in my car, I can carry it ready to flick everywhere.
It is also a good squidding rod, again I can cast a 3.5 a good distance and the forgiving flexi glass construction is very suitable for squid.
And finally, it's got some guts, I landed a 56cm fat flatty with it no trouble at all, and had some decent salmon too.
At around $80 on special it's been a great rod, especially in the boat. I'm yet to try it on the yak, but no doubt it will be great there too. Best of all, these things are rated as close to unbreakable, unlike the several carbon rods I've killed, however if I did break it I'd buy another, it's been that useful.

The long 45 minute walk that was had to reach my starting point in the Mersey River was well it with a mix of brown & rainbow trout being caught & released.
It also required a bit of bush bashing once I was there too..☺️
    cheers

This was another of my late season spin sessions in a small tannin stream & it was great to come across a freshwater lobster. They were once plentiful in the rivers/streams here in Tasmania but due to very little catch rate restrictions they became scarce in the rivers/streams. Now they are a protected species that carry a $10,000 fine if taken from a river/stream.
    cheers

I was chasing trout recently, I tied a few ruff wooly buggers the night before. Free style.. and pretty happy with them too.. I also Tied on a brand new 4lb leader.
About 12 cast into my session, I felt a real heavy weight load up on my 5 weight Fly Rod. "Wow that's a big trout". It sat on the bottom and held my there about 5 minutes. It was an impossible trying to turn its head. It finally turned, it came too the surface. F+++ me !. It's not a trout.. then there was several heavy runs. A 10 minute battle in the end. I finally got it to surface. I grabbed my trout net off my back. Took one look at it and threw it. Pfft.. useless. Somehow I managed to land this fish.
What it was doing eating a tiny wooly bugger?  I have no idea. How a size 12 (garfish hook) pinned it in the corner of the jaw and didn't fall out ? I have no idea. Why my 4lb line didn't snap. Again I have no idea.
    It was definitely my day.

The fish measured 92cm. Estimate 30lb.
    Also a PB for me.

not sure how either of these will go but.....

These thin worms are a pain to rig - so I cut up some shrink tube to protect them from the thread - then lashed them on - with a dab of super glue on the securing knots

Just waiting to see if there is a reaction and the different plastic causes the "Zman Style" plastic to melt.

Also -  I was looking up Kayak nets and they are pretty exxy.  I can get a $10 replacement rubber net off ali expres - and I had the steel rod and pvc in the garage - just heated it up - and put a pencil in the middle of the wires and stepped on it - a bit of araldite will lock them in place - and bang - cheap net for little stuff.

I'll check when we last stocked the hills and what the current feeling on natural replenishment is. Certainly they will not breed in the plains rivers.

None of the hills rivers are stocked these days, we're not allowed to. Luckily the Adelaide Hills is cool enough, salinity low enough, and the right gravel beds form for the trout to be able to spawn. Please be extra careful walking in the rivers during spawning season to not walk on gravel beds as that's where the eggs are. These are likely to be the wider/shallower parts which are where you'd like to cross but should avoid.

Awesome fish! Interesting fly that, so rewarding to catch on your own tied fly. Cheers on the release.
Those rivers are great at times, but the amount of fertilizer washing into them is a bit of a problem regards weeds, reeds and algae. I'll be up there on the weekend to do some remedial work on one of them.
Historical Adelaide Hills river data says Browns will spawn from the end of May until June or July, Rainbows are later up until Sept. For that reason we don't fish the cooler months as we are no longer allowed to stock those rivers, so if the trout don't replace themselves on their own they will be gone forever.

Caught this decent Brown in the hills recently. In the Mid 50's. Went all arabattic on me jumping several times. Released well. Caught on own ruff tied fly.

Took 2 casts to pass the micro perch test. Then 2 more to pass it again.……..

on the down side the trebs don’t like rough treatment and I don’t think I’ll ever get used to the brisk arse first sink on the pause.

I haven’t used sinking bibbed minnows before. Is the arse first sink pretty standard?

I may have cranked up the saturation a bit to bring out the purples

It looks different depending on which device I use to view the photo - on my phone and laptop  it looks almost normal - but on the work laptop, it looks like I way over cranked the saturation.

Just going to post the original untouched to see if theres a difference

Fished the dodge tide on Saturday.

Unfortunately the wind and air pressure conspired to negate what little water movement there was. Rather than accentuate it which is what I was expecting.
Nonetheless got 16 from 32 to 40cm. Sunday was a blow out !

No worries - yeah it seems no retrieve could be too violent when the prawns are in full panic mode.

Fish are much better at tracking stuff through the air than I first thought.

I remember being on a 3 story boat that takes tourist snorkeling up north - my mate left her camera on the second story, near where I was and asked me to get it.

It was a cheap disposable with a float - so I threw it near her, off the balcony - she got swamped by all sorts of reef fish. I could see them tracking the camera as soon as it left my hands.

The staff on those boats throw fish scraps off the side to feed them, so they are well trained to investigate stuff thrown into the water. But from a birds eye view - it was interesting to see how well they can see up through the surface of the water. And how quickly they can lock onto an airbourne target

Mate went out yesty, on bait, 1 undersized and saw nothing else but puffers. Saw the netting pros out recently so likely the reason for no fish on such a good day for them. One day we will wake up and ban netting and long lines in the gulfs. Maybe.

A mate did some testing on seaweed worms trying to breed them up himself. Turns out they are very slow breeders so don't take more than you need and turn the weed back over as you found it, ie. don't just scatter it around, this is to protect any eggs that were there.
