  1. lighter stuff i run a Shimano Jewel/Raider 9ft spin matched to a shimano 4000 technium and 20lb braid. this will happily chuck 15-40gram lures.. my favourite size is 20-30 gram. i have caught salmon to double figures on this combo. Beach fishing with bait. i run Snyder-glass rods with Alvey 650/651s. for my spin i have... Snyder-glass and big okumas. Im an old school beach fisher.. all my big rods seem to be glass.. snyders/buttorworths/Wilsons and 90% are 1pc's.i do have some newer 2pc rods.. but i love the old style rods.
  2. top ones for most big things.. 20+lb land based groper and snapper small sharks to 5.5ft and flying carpets. the Decoy clips for my breaming and trout/light line stuff. and at times just the basic snap swivels for general purpose stuff.
  3. i just use the old fashioned bumbelt when im beaching it.. but that set up looks pretty handy .
  4. when i click the link it lasts for 23seconds.. just as they dive in.. then stops..???
  5. 12 miles out.. the Groups... whiting and snapper.the hospital grounds.. whitingSecond creek good for salmon i was always a land based fisho.. so no exact marks from me sorry..
  6. the bait holder style sinkers? handy for casting distance.. but at 6-7$ each.. not something Id use often ;)its hard enough paying $2 for a 5oz snapper weight...
  7. its ok.. ive bought 2 of them.. I use them as sand anchors for my yak...
  8. on a plastic.. if bottom bashing with baits id probably feel more comfortable going up a few sizes though..
  9. caught this one on a 4000 sized shimano.. and a shimano jewel 5-10kg stick with 20lb braid..
  10. lol Knackers i took that photo while shark diving ;)but the shark in streaky bay roadhouse.. was caught on a baby sealion.. most people dont know that...
  11. but...Baby sealions make great bait..
  12. Ask Rudd if we can now claim our fishing expenses in our tax claims?TBsome of us do!
  13. so... now i have a rod sorted out..Who has done the cape??Your experiences? info? Ill be travelling with an assistant who has done the run a few times but it will be my first cape trip. ive been warned about Palm creek and Nolans crossings already. also.. if youve fished land based up that way any suggestions on lures to use?
  14. Thanks Sharon.. i ended up grabbing a shimano travel rod from my local around the corner. had a good 25% off.. and a hand full of lures.. so im set! Youguys down there offer a great service! ill be sure to shop with you when i pop down next!
  15. i currently use a 9ft jewel 2pc as my traveling rod to perth and back.. but run the risk of breaking it if i dont have the tube.. or.. if i do have the tube its 8ft long for a 4.5ft rod.. so this travel rod fits in my bag and will cover this trip and my future " normal trips"as for jealous.. im jealous of all these people with boats.. while im always land based.. :Pbout time i might actually get soemthing better than an aussie salmon.. though my land based groper are pretty decent catches
  16. after a few thoughts.. buying a rod for one trip didint seem such a great idea.. so i bought a travel rod i could use down here.. and also on my normal trips across to perth and back. currently i take a full size rod tube 8ft long.. and its a bit annoying.. so.. grabbed one of these at a price of just over 100http://www.fishingtackleshop.com.au/products/shimano-raider-travel-inshore-fishing-rod-904-shore-spin.htmlRecommended Target Fish Species – snapper, mulloway, trevally, salmon, tailor, small tuna, bonito, kingfish, bream, whiting, queenfish, cod.i think it covers a few bases.. and
  17. could be an option.. .. and still claim the tax hehehhe
  18. and i cant take a fullsize rod up in my rod case.. as ive already got free flights etc. but we have limited room on board the truck for such items.
  19. Fridge, Rods and and a Rod case are tax deductions ( god i love this job!)as for frieght unsure if it will get up there in time as this trip has been kinda thrown at me at last minute.. yesterday i was starting to think.. the big long wide Nullarbor was calling again.. by lunch i was heading to Cape York!Trihul, ill check them out! but getting up in price for a once off usage rod.. would my technium 4000 be undergunned for bit of land based fishing ?
