  1. shimano raiders are what im using.. got 2! and an excellor 2000..
  2. YEAh i bought the rod from Hugo, the alvey set up he had. top gear well looked after and all in good ocndition. Hugos a good bloke!
  3. got the same set up years ago "Jarvis Walker Tuff Tip 12' surf rod, 6-10kg; JW Royal Gold 6500 with 20lb mono" i still catch salmon snapper and groper on it! even large rays...im 94kg and been taught to cast alveys from the beach.. might be in your action???though a smaller rod such as a 4-5120 maybe a better suit if your finding it too heavy. single peice "old style" glass rods can be heavy.. but they are so sweet to use. if you do find a Wilson/snyder/butterworth second hand rod for a bargain dont be afriad to snap it up and try.. these things are pretty easy to onsell... i have 5-6 i
  4. i use rock crabs for bait when targetting blue groper from the rocks. i find a few legs are enough of a bait for these fellas. but for mullys etc.. id probably say half a crab split down the middle. hook out the side of a leg. use rubber bands to secure the bait to the hook. would be difficult to not smash the crab too much when casting.for groper im fishing close to where i stand and just tossing the baits out unweighted.. different story surf casting..
  5. Chucky.. collectors item?>?? hope not... i wanna catch fish with it not look at it
  6. set with an alvey, id say the "extra length" is all in the rod but. as its got a pretty solid lower section with rope bound "grips". not something ive seen before its a real eye turner!Cheers Cal!and thanks Hugo for letting me add another Alvey combo to my collection
  7. Have just purchased this rod off another forum member. its built for an Alvey and has the branding "Custom Super Stik" and has the name scrolled in as "Flick Stick Fury" and also has the initials U,S or U,5 on it. Its 4m/ 13'3" long. matched to a 650c Alvey with 30lb mono at time of purchase. I am wondering what weight class this rod is built for. as i plan to throw some big baits around and use it for snapper/mulloway etc on the west coast and various other rock areas. i may encounter sharks and groper in a few of these places.. plus of course rays.. "Flick Stick Fury" kind of makes me

  17. ive always throwing out a float rig when jetty fishing or even rock fishing in squid areas. and then worked a jig on another rod. often the float rig will be the tommy on a spike jig.
  18. another side of that is.. is your favourite jig working more.. due to the fact you use it more ;)i mix it up but am finding white jigs are really doing the damage of late..

  20. "D'uuuhhh.... The penny just dropped. I was like "WTF?", hahahaha :silly:"???those little silver fish with red fins are also known as Roach's in English fishing ( i think) lol that pike was 75cm and the only fish we got all day.. spent most the day drinking Schrobeller lol

  23. definitely one of the best land based fish ive ever caught.. these fish are territorial and only live in small groups so gotta treat them good! easy to fish an area out..
  24. cant keep any groper Land based in that area. have to go past Cape Carnot in Whalers Way. to be able to keep a bluey... PM me for some land based areas if your real keen. my best landed is 20lb of the rocks.. and lost a heap more much much larger.. as for nanygai, a friend of mine caught a few of them locally in lincoln off the parnkalla trail.. as well as snapper!
