You'll be fine with that sized reel and you'll enjoy playing the bigger fish! I use a 1000 Symetre spooled with 5lb braid and 6lb leader. So much fun when you hook up to something decent....

Yeah I too just add salt and brown sugar dry to the fillets and smoke. Saves a lot messing around and they taste great. Smoked Tommies and a cold beer. :wub:

The usual local rock fishing targets for me. Bream 45+cms would be nice Flathead 60+cms Snapper, legal Gar and Squid My Dads coming over from Pommieland to celebrate his 75th in a couple of weeks, so hoping to get him onto some thumper Bream locally and some decent Callop as we celebrate his birthday with a few days at the River.

Definitely! Been using charcoal for just about everything recently.Either in the webber closed for roasting etc... or in the webber open as in the photo. Love it.

So I don't usually keep Bream, but a nice sea run specimen makes for a very tasty meal. This one was caught on Saturday morning, marinated in lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, chilli, oregano, salt and pepper during the day and then cooked over charcoals that evening. Was absolutely beautiful. Outdoor cooking... with beer in hand... oh yes.

I'm in too. haha I somehow jagged second place last season and would be very surprised if that happens again. Was getting dizzy spells from being so high on the ladder!

Hi mate, I use a 1000 Symetre and a 1000 Sienna on my Bream/Flathead/Whatever set ups and love them both. I've had a Sedonna FD(?) 1500 for donkeys years and it's still going strong. For what you want, reliability, and the price I'd recommend any of these. Can't comment on any other brands as I don't use them and sounds like you know about these reels anyway. If you somehow manage to kill a Sienna it doesn't cost much to replace it.

As mentioned Garden Island is a good ramp and free, OH ramp is much steeper and had a few sizeable holes when I last used it, but it is free, Snowdens a good ramp but has a fee ($7 I think). All these places have a bad rap for cars being broken into while you're out fishing. You can launch from the beach at Snowdens for free from the boat club ramps, but you will need to drive on the beach at certain times of the tide. If you find you like beach launching then Largs yacht club is a good spot, also free. Good luck and have a good time.

Hi doobie. I'd lighten up that main line mono a bit to 4lb-8lb (approx. 2-4kg) for those species listed. If you prefer to stay with mono then run it straight through, ie your main line is your leader all the way through. The less knots, swivels, attachments and weight the better, in my opinion. My preference is to run braid (4-8lb) to flouro (at the same or slightly higher line strength) attached by a double uni knot on my set ups for species you listed and others such as Bream and Flathead.
