Main benefit of real four is interchangability. I've got 6 small Daiwas with real four and can switch spools and handles between them.
  2. Storm Smash Shad Best snook lure I have used. I have run a double clutch side by side and they usually draw more strikes. They are cheap if you shop around overseas. I bought a heap from the US a few years ago when the dollar was high and got them for about $6 AUS. Currently going for $5 US on various US sites. They usually go on sale down to $4 US every now and then. Shipping costs a bit though.
  3. Tasty. I catch one every 3 years or so
  4. Use a weak acid solution and give it a soak. Vinegar works well
  5. They usually go for $100 to $150 on ebay. Wooden one would go for a lot more
  6. Reversed stripper guide is the current trend in rod building, especially if not using k guides.

Definitely bring up some lures. Any snapper lure (soft plastic, micro jig, lucanus, inchiku etc) should work great. Also bring a few metals to throw at the tuna. Use your own gear if you can, Kerry on Blackout uses low to midrange gear. He will take some video and photos on the trip and you get a DVD after which is great. Landbased is really hard work. Most of the locals fish the start of the Marina in one of the few areas you can fish legally. Looked like Cod on deadbait with the chance of a Barra. Also saw a few bait schools being harassed along the rockwall. I suspect Queenies. Good

  9. The Barra are there. My brother lived in Darwin for about a year. He got quite a few legal landbased Barra on lures. It seemed very tide dependant. Hiro is the local guru. He blogs about his trips here http://secretbarramundi.blogspot.com.au/
  10. Would not recommend this guy. My bro did a 3 day live aboard with him in 2015. Trolled for 3 days for nothing, but one guy in the boat got a hit and landed a 1m barra. The charter operator uses social media well and gets a lot of big barra but fishes very hard for them and his customer service seems to be lacking. http://www.ntnews.com.au/lifestyle/fishing/angry-clients-claim-their-nt-fishing-guide-abused-them-crapped-off-the-front-of-the-boat-and-hit-catfish-on-the-head-with-a-baseball-bat/news-story/b397538fb417d851ee31fb78f1387883

  12. I use both on two of my outfits. I like the kaneit knot or uni to uni
  13. They get washed in from the freshwater drain during heavy rain.
  14. I like longshank and baitholder hooks depending on the bait I am using but all types of hooks work. I use pilchards alot with larger short shank hooks and longshanks with prawns and worms. A handful of burley works well if the tide is not too strong. Chicken pellets and pilchard cubes are my favourite.
  15. Your gear and terminal sound fine for bream. If using circles have a solid rod holder and a decent amount of drag and the fish should hook themselves. Bream on bait is much easier till you get a few under the belt.
  16. Bream will be easy to crack. What gear and rigs and bait are you using for the bream? Plenty in the Onk
  17. Should be delicious. Spanish Mac is oily and has great flavour just fried so smoking should work really well.
  18. Bream gear, 20lb to 30lb leader, 2 inch to 3 inch soft plastic or whitebait, bluebait or froggie on 3 x 1/0 hooks cast and slowly retrieved on the edge of the lights at night time.
  19. Caught 2 at southport yesterday. Large one was about 1kg. No pics and all eaten now.
  20. My brothers have done a half day barra and crab tour in Darwin with the emphasis on the crabbing and only throwing a few small lures for baby barra around Darwin. Few landbased spots for Barra if you have access to transport. My Bro caught quite a few legal barra landbased throwing lures or livebaiting mullet in the Darwin area. Most barra charters are full day and travel a fair away from Darwin. Also worth landbased fishing from stokes hill wharf, chasing some big diamod scale mullet from behind the deck chair cinema or chasing some milkfish from the rocks near doctors gully
  21. Knowledge will be the biggest thing to aquire to become a good fisherman. Fishing in Adelaide is hard and it is even harder landbased. The fish are there landbased but you will have to put in the time and fish unsociable hours in sometimes very crowded condition to put together a feed. A good way to start is to spend some time on any of the jetties in summer and watch the locals catch squid or whiting or gar or tommies. Tommies and squid are usually an easier fish to catch for beginners. If you are keen to learn, read every fishing book you can find and read through all the posts on fishin
  22. Been more than 10 years since I fished it landbased. Lots of ST near the boat ramp. Ray on dead bait in the main channel. Few gar and tommies on the surface and snook at night. KGW on the bottom fishing from the footbridge.
  23. Moonlighter Zebras have more stripes and are abit longer and lack the sharp dorsal spines. I've eaten one once and it was nice but abit plain
  24. I'll be in Cairns in 2 weeks time also. My Bro is heading over and we're also booked with Blackout fishing charters for a GT popping trip. I'll also do a bit of land based fishing around town and taking up a travel rod and a few lures.
