I agree they are terrific sport. On ki last summer me and some mates found the eagle ray honey hole and had a heap of fun catching one after the other. We were berleying up and catching gar, cubing them and using them as bait. A couple of them launched clean out of the water flapping away. Blistering runs. I was using a big egg beater, 50lb braid and 24kg rod. My mate had an overhead with i think 8kg mono. I preferred tight drag on my setup, easier and quicker to land. The first couple we brought on board but after that just used pliers to take hook out at side of boat.

A friend of mine caught this eagley on the weekend. It took a salmon trout fillet, fished on 20 pound braid and a 4000 shimano reel. Not sure how heavy but took him almost an hour to get in. Was released to swim another day.

yeah it does its the BP. they sell boats and other gear and is by far the best spot in goolwa for tackle.

i've got a raider one piece thats rated 3-15 grams and have used up to 25gram salmon lures and one ounce sinkers when bait fishing. Just got to be careful not to really load it up when you cast.

Hey ranger how much LOLing do you do while your knitting with the missus. I for one am interested in anything that may put more fish on the end of my braid.

thanks for your input forum members. I also try and keep my own records but havent yet looked into barometric pressure changes which i know some people do.

wondering if many fishos use the yellow anglers almanac and wether they've noticed much success. I've had some fairly hot bites during major fish feeding periods on black (best) days but was wondering about other peoples results and their thoughts on the topic.

nothing like some of those hanks but went just over 50cm. Fishing 10lb braid and 20lb flurocarbon throwing lazers, gillies etc 30-40gram over at innes national park
