I have weights up to 4.5 kilos - but suggest starting with smaller increments
Or just ask your doctor for some medication....

I have a 'fishing chalet' at Port Moorowie.  Heading there and hoping for good weather.
I'll try to do 2 shifts in Edithburgh Sea Rescue Radio Room, to make up for recent unavailability due to broken leg....

Yeah tightening is an even bigger problem for my operation (and it has happened  with the drill going at 1000 miles and hour🤬)
if it’s going to go either way - id rather it loosened

If you just flip the spool over the rotation will tighten the nut. THing of the # you will save !!

    Use it as backing.
Looks like you have some useable lengths there.

buy smaller reels and  use them for squid etc

I have a few Shimano IX4000 and they catch everything... even big snapper.

If all else fails ... sent it all to me...🤣

Try some bamboo skewers (shaslick skewers).  They are thinner and lighter than dowel. Usually very cheap at Coles/Woolworths
If you want to go really light go to a craft shop and get styrene foam balls.  They are dirt cheap. Hot glue the skewers in to position.
After you bind the eyes/swivels/whatever in place, seal with the hot glue. (wood glue may not be waterproof)..

'a course...... you seem to have enuff floats now......... maybe just go fishing!!

    Spot on Yellow.
I have already re-rigged my whiting, gar, tommies and shark gear.    My usual snapper spot carries all these from time to time, as well as snook, squid, sweep, trevally and on one occasion sampson fish.
Its not a bad spot, close to shore and 7m deep.

Mind you on at least 6 outings I have hooked legal snapper on my gar hooks!!!  Guess I'll have to throw them back -- but at least there will be no barotrauma.

In theory, you're unlikely to catch a snapper given they're supposedly few left swimming in the ocean.  But that aside....
Logically it will be a very hard rule to enforce.  You can catch snapper using various techniques, rigs and equipment.... which is the same for various other species .   On this basis I would suspect unless you specifically say or suggest you're targeting snapper if asked by a fisheries officer, then there would be very little evidence to suggest you were.
No different to the rule that once you've caught your boat limit of fish, you're no longer allowed to target that species, even if practicing catch and release.  Ask anyone that has been on a hot bite when tuna fishing, how often that happens....

I'm quite happy to use cheaper reels for smaller fish but I generally use known 'brands'.  For larger fish it has  be a good quality reel  ---  usually known. ABU and Penn mostly.  I do have a couple of unknowns that perform-- but I only got them coz they were bloody cheap and were worth the risk.   I gave up buying home brand combos after a bad experience with 2 x 'snake brand' outfits.  Similarly 'snake' hooks and swivels have a short 'in use' life..... but I still have a lot in reserve...
I have a lot (yes... a lot!!) of ebay braid..... and have never had it let me down.

I'm happy to buy cheaper 'un known' rods as long as I like the feel and they are VERY cheap.   So far-- so good...   but if a 'name' comes up at a good price  I get it.
A few years ago I bought a lot of used reels from a Qld deceased estate.... mostly game reels.     I'll never use all these... but gee--- they look good when I hang them off the rod racks on the boat!!!

THe 'finance officer' is always vigilant about the fishing gear she sees... so I have 3 lots.... 1 at the chalet-- a large collection coz " I have to cater for visitors without their own gear'..... and 2 places at home... " I need that in case I go out locally"... and  " dont go in there... its full of rats and spiders  ......"
