  1. Was talking to a mate who was fishing on Goolwa beach a few nights ago, he saw caught a pair of eyes in his headlight and is pretty certain it was a Gummy shark come right up into a couple of inches of water following his burley trail. Just wondering if this is normal for them to come into such shallow water and whether i might be casting too far out when targeting them? Anyone else seen this type of thing?
  2. BCF have the Okuma Hardstone 55 for $84, i,ve been using mine for about 3 years mainly spooled with 20lb mono. Been a great reel for me.
  3. Thanks to tax time have a few bucks to invest in a new reel.I'v been using an Okuma Hardstone HS-55 for a few years now for most of my winter surf salmon fishing and recently a mate has got a boat and its been ideal for targeting snapper (I said targeting, not catching, well not heaps anyway). I would like another reel about the same size as my Okuma and i was looking for suggestions for any alternatives. I can still pick up the HS-55 from BCF for about $100 so suggestions in that price range would be good. I was looking at the Penn Spinfisher V range as i have an older Penn 850 does anyone ha
  4. Rotare, thanks heaps for the offer mate, much appreciated. My wonderful wife has just presented me with a $100 voucher for BCF so this will def get me back out fishing again. I'll try asking the guys at Anglers choice see if anythings been handed in there. To ease the pain my mate took me out on his boat on Tuesday to the barges and i landed my first ever snapper which went 55cms so i was pretty stoked with that!!!
  5. So about two weeks ago i was having a little fish at the mouth of the onka, as i was walking back towards the footbridge i bumped into an English bloke and his two young boys who had just bought a little starter kit so the boys could have a fish. The bloke asked if i knew how to set the rod up as he had no idea what he was doing. Of course i stopped to give him a hand. After setting up a little running sinker rig and chopping up a few bits of pillie for them i checked out what they had in the starter pack, obviously it was pretty crap so i got my tackle box out and donated a few swivels, hooks
  6. I cant one of these off the rocks at O'Sullies a couple of weeks ago, went 38cm and fought pretty well, not worth eating though would rather just chuck it back
  7. I've had quite a few squid off the rocks at the marina, theres some big rays cruising round there as well.
  8. I've got a 4120 which i use with a Penn 850 reel with 30lb line mono and have caught a legal mullies and decent sized gummies and had no problems at all. Even managed to beach a 60kg Ray at Goolwa one night. I have used it for Salmon at Waits as well but found prob best to use it with a lighter reel and line as can be a bit hard to feel the smaller bites. My mate uses a 5120 for Mullies and Sharks and swears by it though it is slightly heavier.
  9. I am running a Wilson 4120 with a Penn 850 reel which i love as requires minimal maintainence and is tough as (EDITED), alos run a light slistar rod with okuma spin reel for salmon, find this rod is light enough for throwing lures around too.havent NEEDED to own another rod yet but that doesnt mean i dont want one....
  10. Cheers,I'd seen other people cutting the barbs off but thought it was a bit unnessacary as i would prefer to return them unharmed.
  11. Can anyone advise the best way to deal with sting rays? Is there a safe way to unhook and return them?
