doobie reacted to Harrison22 in Buying live worms?
Thanks very much David and Doobie, I'll be sure to update you with pics when I eventually get time to go for them.
Do they keep well? Say if I wanted to get them one day and fish the next couple of days?

Like David says, low tides are best for finding them and just look for all the holes in sand - a youtube video should help understand the 'hows'.
I've got mine down Moana way only as I live this way and not tried anywhere else.

I'd suggest to buy the longer ones as it makes it easier to down into the sand and of course more depth.

I've found them pretty good, but a better quality one is better than the cheap BigW/K-mart ones etc.
I also washed them down when getting home due to some sand being left inside the tube.
What does annoy me though, was after only using it for about 4 sessions and then stored for about 8 months, I found the rubber part around the washer had crumbled. I was annoyed with this, so contacted Wilsons and they sent me 2 replacements (nice of them seeing I purchased from BCF?). But they said the washers do not last long anyway, but buying replacements are not expensive.

Like Underpants says, tiger worms are quite simple to set up and continue to to good numbers/product. But tiger worms will die very quickly if using in salt water. I was desperate once and purchased tiger worms from a store to use in salt water - never again ... expensive and were dead quickly.
I wont buy tube/beach worms at all, just far too expensive for a couple of them. Best to practice, practice and practice sourcing your own from the beaches.
Even seaweed worms are easy to get, just find very old seaweed sitting high on the sands and start scrounging through the weed to find them - excellent bait.

You really are becoming quite the professional at this video footage and slideshow stuff
Very entertaining Adrian and a good session for you in the end.

doobie reacted to Meppstas in Tough few hours chasing wild brown & rainbow trout..
This was a tough spin session chasing wild brown & rainbow trout in the Mersey River..
It was the fast water runs that held the trout today.. thankfully I did manage to catch a few in very humid conditions.. Don't forget to watch the slideshow at the end of the video..
cheers

doobie got a reaction from Aff in YFW fillets
All my saucepan lids are curved so I'll still get a curled fillet lol

@doobie hahaha that was my exact thought too!
@Hunter69 aggree with cooking majority skin side down, for the same reasons you have mentioned. I assume a smaller saucepan/fry pan would achieve the same result?
Ill definately try it on the next batch!

On Yorkes I use size 4 for YFW & they catch other species as well, even small stuff.
I put the point of the hook in at the base of the underside of the tail and thread them down the hook & come out in the head. This also serves to help keep the body on better.
Hope this is helpful

doobie reacted to anchovy in Clickers
I have found that the size of mature specimens can vary a lot by location. so ideal hook size may vary but what determines hook size for me is what I'm fishing for. For YFW I use hook size of 6-8 so if the nippers are small it would be better to use an 8 and if they are larger a 6. they can be tricky to put on a hook especially if they are small they almost disintegrate when you put the hook through them. I go through the back of the tail and out through the front so they are still alive. from what I've read they are a premium bait that almost any fish would take. I've caught a garfish on a nipper before

doobie reacted to David_C in Kadina Market - 19 January 2019
Hi all
If you are one of the lucky ones to be holidaying on Yorkes at the moment or are one of the even luckier ones who permanently live on Yorkes, come and say hello to me and my wife at the Kadina Markets on January 19th.
I will have most of my range of sinkers available and will also be taking pre-orders. I will also be doing a special price on the sinkers for the market as well
This is a new experience for me and if this is successful, we may be doing a few more markets on yorkes as well. Just hope that the weather plays ball, as I may be taking the fishing roads, for a sneaky fish on the way home

doobie got a reaction from dutchy in Yeti ice bricks
Not used them, but they look a little rich to buy.
I just use a few 1.25lt soft drink bottles or plastic milk containers - does the job well enough for me.

Purchased some large yeti bricks today, sick of d.i.y milk cartons breaking.
has anyone put them to use ?
