  1. have just picked up a roo bar for it.... with a bit of modification i could prob make it fit.
  2. believe me...when it comes to cops, IM THE NICEST BLOKE YOU WILL EVER MEET...when i had my corvette, i got pulled over many times....at least 9 times im sure....was ALWAYS NICE...most times they just wanted to look at the car, and i even took photos of the cops sitting IN the car for them...even opening the bonnet so one car nut cop could check out the engine...that was my good deed.....one time when we had a few corvettes out for a cruise, i couldnt help myself.... i was the lead, and on a nice hill with a stop sign, somehow, both tyres broke traction and the others behind me disapeared in a
  3. they all fitted now...and i MIGHT be lucky and they look like they are behind the nudge bar...JUST...but ive been offered an alloy roo bar off of a nissan patrol... will have a measure to see if it will fit or not... i could always start cutting and re welding it so it does fit... but will check it all out first.the rod holder will be taken off after each use i reckon.... im not one for tempting fate....
  4. straight acroos the road now,is a patrol...rod holders on a roobar, and a snorkel fitted...even if the holders were taken off, the roobar and snorkel would still cause a bit of damage.
  5. ive just started to hear stuff like this on a 4wd forum im on as well.... hmmm... dont know about anywhere else, but in whyalla just about EVERY 4wd has the holders....no joke....i plan on removing these after each use...are they illegal to even put on when being used?
  6. the new ( to me) truck, has a nudge bar fitted, but tis really low, and REALLY close to the front of the car...not much use for anything really cept mounting the spotlights...i have a couple of rods i fish the rocks with.... both snyderglas', a 2 piece and a 1 piece.brothers all have one pieces, and transporting them has always been a problem... over the years, ive had the rod carriers that lock onto the gutter rail on the car, but these days...not many cars HAVE gutter rails...used to stick the rods out the side window, but the drumming noise and cold air coming in gets to ya after a while.so

    CAT FOOD

just lately, ive been using a berley pot from the rocks... tied onto some heavy cord, and i throw it out.....few weeks ago the tide was racing out, went down to hurl the pot out into deeper water as it was high and dry... THE BLOODY POT WAS COVERED IN ROCK CRABS... must have been at least 30 of them....so it obviously got a bit of a scent to it, and it must be coming out... ive been taking the empty tins home, rinsing and putting into the recycle.
  8. damn... you blokes have go me all fired up now....first chance i get im heading up to have a crack. will respool the alvey with another 600mtrs of line, will leave some of the original stuuf on to make around the 700-800mtrs, making sure it goes on real tight...GOD KNOWS where im actually going, but i got a few mates up there that will HOPEFULLY see me right and point me in the right direction...hahaha... one of my mates actually fished for them on his jetski... no hookups he said.... would have been real funny to see him try and pull a monster up... i had images of a ski doo being towed under
  9. a kingy from the rocks? at the pumphosue? I DIDNT EVEN KNOW YOU COULD GET AROUND THERE TO FISH THE LAND..... anybody got direections to get there? ive got the alvey, so im a sure chance to catch a fish.... :icon_e_biggrin:
  10. ive heard of a large king being taken on an abu7000....i agree...its all in the playing of the fish.... , but ive never fished for them either....
  11. i got a 30cm one off the jetty the other night, then a 36cm big cuttlefish.pulled it up by hand, and the 30lb line on the reel, sliced my finger.. they were both on the jetty and me and my bro watched the cuttly, inch its way along the jetty, and grab the squid...pulled them apart, and it had taken a huge trainagle shaped chunk out of the squid's wing.its easy to clean a big cuttly like that when you can shove your whole hand almost up to the elbow up inside to scrape everything out.
  12. i do something similar....cept just shove a screwdriver through the hole, with the blade put into a bench vice.... i can then apply whatever pressure is needed.
  13. and even when they get covered in sand, just rinse em off in the salt water and carry on fishing..........
  14. ive noticed the alvey seems to be a fave in them same areas.... went to elliston, and i had the only alvey out of 17 people on the beach...almonta was the same sort of ratio...convention beach and lincoln national park where they skull drag the salmon up a cliff(forgot the name of the place) are owned by alveys.....out of 19 people on convention beach at the time, all but one had the alvey.i can cast far further with an alvey than a spinner or overhead....those that have tried and failed need to hit a school oval, tie sinker to main line and fling the hell out of it...doesnt take long to maste
  15. 200 bucks for a new one... and besides... it a sentimental thing, and if it aint broke...why mess with it.. im yet to find ANY other reel that will last 20 plus years, being used 2-5 times a week.... it gets oiled about every 3 mths, the drag is as loud as a scorned woman, and has a simple easy to use with finger tips drag.... i often sleep out on the rocks, if it screams ( and it has many times) its never failed to wake me up. alvey also make a lever drag system,,,, but i dont know anyone thats tried one...would like to know if they are as good as the star drags....
  16. hit the nail right on the head then..... ALVEY FOREVER in my book.plus i can take to a surf beach, drop it in the sand and with a quick rinse in the surf carry on fishing without a worry in the world. ive just ordered a new ratchet assembly... mine is still servicable, but has lost a bit of the LOUDNESS alveys have when a fish screams off...( love that sound)
  17. dammit.... after fixing the alvey it lasted all of 3 weeks, then when packing up i somehow hit it on a rock, and it shattered the repair in exaclty the same spot...so i repaired it again...this time i sprayed with automotive paint for a bit more durability...used the WINNING colour of ford blue.its a pearl metalic and really stands out..... the holden colour just isnt fast enough...bit like there cars actually.....
  18. to anyone interested.... i use an ALVEY 50C sidecast reel, hung below a SNYDERGLAS 13ft 6 inch 2 piece rod.... ive had the rod and rell for over 18yrs, and has pulled hundreds of snapper at the moment im trialing out circlehooks.. i use one on the bottom and just a suicide 4.0 on the top... and both fish were caught on the suicide... both lip hooked. normally i release most of the snapper i catch, but these are for a special after shutdown bbq at work for the shoft im on...fish caught around the rocks near whyalla....THE ROUGHER THE BETTER....when its very rough as it has been, just about anyw
  19. just back from a rockhop.... rough as guts, very dirty water.... i got 2 snapper in less than 20mins, then packed up and came home...by far the quickest ive landed snapper.in total i cast out 3 times, less than 40mtrs from shore, and used just one tommy cut in half for the 2 fish..... could have stayed and tried for some small as well, but whats the point.... i got some good feeds so came home.snapper sizes? 73cm and 84cm....the smaller was FULL of blue swimmer crabs...the bigger was empty.who said rock fishing is dead?
  20. thats a great pic toadfish....where was that taken?
  21. was a bit annoyed... the paint is still a bit soft, and when i bought it home this morning the rag it was wrapped in scuffed the paint on the edges.... will let it cure fully, then snad and repaint that bit...[
  22. i love my alvey.... have tried spinners, and overheads from the rocks..... much prefer the alvey.... i can get a better cast from it, simple, the drag system is at my finger, and that ratchet is as loud as hell... has woke me up many times from all night fishing trips when it screams off.... excellant soundwell shes all sanded and painted up.... i dont think the paint will last with the line cutting into it, but i may even redo the paint in 2 pak which would be a lot tougher... also heard from a mate in quensland who uses eppoxy resin a lot in his line of work.... and passed on a few tips to
  23. will get a final cleam up with emery cloth tonight, then paint it in ocean blue...something different
