  1. Just having a quick look online and found these: http://dbforms.ga.gov.au/pls/www/npm.ozcoast2.showmm?pBlobno=9430 http://www.ozcoasts.gov.au/search_data/detail_result.jsp Cheers af
  2. This is a link to a copy of an article which is in the latest "Southern Times Messenger" (Wednesday, November 11): http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/local-want-useless-onkaparinga-river-returned-to-its-former-glory/story-fnii5yv6-1227603547614 Comments, please!!! Cheers af
  3. [i love eating squid but it's a can be a tedious pain to prepare.] Have you tried a SquidEzy tool? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMwDwON0pTA Cheers af
  4. Did you do Ball's Pyramid at all, Kelvin, or just fish LHI itself? Cheers af
  5. ...and if you're REALLY keen, this may be useful: http://www.ascension-flights.com/ascension-flights-info.htm Cheers af
  6. I think you will find Robson Green also featured Ascension Island in an episode filmed there for his "Extreme Fishing" series (as previously alluded to, the rock formations were a bit of a giveaway). Nice to see you having a bit of a Google of the subject as well Kelvin, along with myself! There's some interesting stuff there, including a couple of charter operations which would be tempting if the $$$ permitted. Blo*dy long way to travel for a fish, though - even if the island is described as "the Jurassic Park of fishing in the Atlantic"... Cheers af http://www.ascensionislandfishi
  7. Have you checked out the new Shimano Impact NXT range yet? http://www.shimanofish.com.au/products/fishing-rods/spinning/impact-nxt-spinning.html I have ordered (and hopefully will be picking up sometime this week) an IMNXT763NT - I like the idea of a 3 piece for ease of transport, and I don't think performance will suffer too much when stacked up against one or two piece equivalents. I'm hoping it will work equally as well on YFW and big gar down at Livingston's. Cheers af
  8. This works well for me as a set-up in my garage: http://www.okuma.com.au/Okumahome/show_one_product.aspx?productgroup=Accessories&titleid=OPRR I bought mine quite a few years ago, but a quick online search tells me that they are still readily available. Cheers af
  9. Hi J_B2F Razor fish generally live in a tidal mud/sand flat environment. I doubt you will find anything like that around the Flerieu Peninsula. If you are serious in chasing razors, you'll probably have to try a lot further up north in both Gulf St Vincent and Spencer Gulf. Please be aware that there is currently a closed season in effect in the Upper Spencer Gulf: http://pir.sa.gov.au/fishing/fishing_limits/razorfish Hope this helps. Cheers af
  10. On the topic of eating KG Whiting, I reckon I just discovered the most expensive KG meal ever seen in an eating establishment: http://thefishhouse.com.au/food-and-wine/our-menu/ Now they wouldn't want to taste funny at that price, would they?! Cheers af
  11. Evening All I note that a certain national chain of suppliers of boating, camping and fishing equipment are now stocking an Italian brand of lures called Molix (link to manufacturer's website here: http://www.molix.com ). There's some interesting-looking stuff on there, but I was wondering if anyone on this site has had any previous experience with these lures or were aware of any overseas feed back? Cheers af
  12. Thanks for the feedback so far... Chris_64 May I enquire how you load tested the line? (Forgive me if I seem like a newbie in this regard!) Since my original post, I have had a further look on the interweb thingie at some other forums for some information on this topic - the guts of which appears to be as follows: - Load test the line (as you have mentioned), although this at best proves the knot strength (unless one has access to some fairly fancy laboratory equipment) - Be very reluctant to contact line manufacturers for advice, as their sole purpose in life is to sell more
  13. Evening Hookers Just wondering if anyone out there knows if there is such a thing as "shelf life" for fishing line (both mono and braid)? I'm aware that continued exposure to the UV component of sunlight can lead to deterioration in line quality, but if spools of new line are stored in cool, dry and dark conditions, how long could they be expected to main optimum breaking strain and performance? Any contributions to the discussion would be most welcome... Cheers af
  14. Here is a link to a distribution map of where they have been found in Australia: http://bie.ala.org.au/species/urn:lsid:biodiversity.org.au:afd.taxon:12e4d55f-aab2-4416-85fa-0e5c2060a358 Cheers af
  15. Hi doobie Your "barracuda" isn't a barracuda. I think you will find it's a Southern Frostfish (Lepidopus caudatus). Here is a link found after just a quick search: http://fishingmag.co.nz/2014/11/10/frostfish-lepidopus-caudatus/ Interesting find, nonetheless... Cheers af
  16. Lots of stuff online about preserving worms in metho...this is probably one of the better sources of information I've seen: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.250969621717185.1073741838.192348597579288&type=3 I have previously bought "metho" worms from a reputable Adelaide tackle shop and they seemed to be a decent fall-back option when fresh ones weren't available. Cheers af P.S. Anyone want to throw references to WD40 into this thread?
  17. My money is on the Sebile Crankster to get the first decent hit.... Cheers af
  18. Err...not just at the moment, Oldmate. I think I've got a sock drawer to re-arrange or something...
  19. Saw this on the "Fishing World" website today...ouch! http://www.fishingworld.com.au/news/3-ways-to-remove-a-hook Cheers af
  20. In regards to this story, I had a bit of a further look on the 'net and found this excellent example of "TV News Reporting 101" in action - take one interesting shot with a good back story and puff it up to a 2 min 41 sec report with some highly dubious "filler" footage: http://www.10news.com/news/san-diego-fisherman-explains-the-moment-he-was-dragged-underwater-by-a-sea-lion-042715 Cheers af
  21. Interesting story from the "NT News": http://www.ntnews.com.au/lifestyle/fishing/happy-snap-turns-to-terror-as-sea-lion-strikes/story-fnkchy3h-1227337705016 Cheers af
  22. An interesting story... http://csironewsblog.com/2015/04/26/reunited-after-twenty-years-tagged-tuna-tell-us-tales-of-the-sea/ Cheers af
  23. Had some family around last night and decided to do the Good Friday fish thing. Barbecued Atlantic Salmon with Greek seasoning and also Sweet Chilli Sauce marinated Flake (as per the article in the latest "Fishing SA" magazine) went down fairly well, but the winner on the night was a Barbecue Salt & Pepper Squid recipe that I had not previously tried. For those who may be interested, you can check out the recipe here: http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/32665/barbecued+salt+and+pepper+squid If you need to find some Szechuan Peppers, most Foodland Stores stock the GFresh brand - just be
