archerfish got a reaction from Panga in Razorfish Tongs
Thanks for that, Panga. $80 is probably going to have to get me a whole lot of Razorfish!
The only reason I asked the question is that I finally tried Razorfish for the first time earlier this month and have now become hooked.
Good luck on your most excellent adventure tomorrow (sorry I won't be aboard).

archerfish reacted to Tacklebags in so you want a rec fishing license?
Hi Panga. Sorry but I wasn't at any protest in Adelaide. I have often attended public consultation sessions but never protests.
I have always believed in following consultation processes to achieve desired outcomes. If the outcomes from those processes fail the public then that's the governments problem to deal with/be held accountable for not mine.
I dont see my position on fisheries as anti commercial or anti government. I just have different views on how to manage the resource sustainably. Quite simply we can't continue to use the gulfs scalefish stocks to supply the world or even interstate markets under current management mechanisms and maintain a sustainable local community fishery as well.
I have discussed fisheries management issues over the years with scientists and industry consultants around the country. One common response I get is "you raise issues which deserve far more attention than they get in Australia".
Fish stocks imho are relatively easy to manage Panga, its the politics which makes sustainability untenable.
I am well aware of the current costs you mention and see the future only too well. That's why I no longer go fishing and spend my days coaching/playing soccer and tennis.

archerfish reacted to Yorky in Shimano Travel Rods
We tell lot of people that come into the shop that have either broken a graphite rod or are buying their first graphite rod to check out a video on you tube put out by Daiwa called "bending graphite rods". They show the do's & don'ts when using graphite rods.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5fqh2oHZ-E
We had a customer who had broken a rod & said that he didn't know why & it shouldn't have broken, when we showed him the video he said "ahhh, yeah, that's what I done"
A lot of people are not aware of the content of the video

archerfish got a reaction from wytang in I wonder how big Great Whites REALLY grow...
I spotted this article on the NZ Herald website today:
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/news/article.cfm?c_id=1501119&objectid=11359307
Leaving aside the hype, I wonder how big these suckers really grow. The references I have indicate a maximum size of anywhere between 6.0 to 6.4 metres.
Any (reliable) reports of anything to support or exceed this?
Cheers

PS Hopefully we can leave all of the stuff about Carcharocles megalodon out of this particular thread!

archerfish reacted to Panga in Turning Japanesa "I really think so"
Joy come to the shack to help do the maintenance thing. So I asked her to call into Samtass for a pan size snapper (from Victoria) and 2 tubs of seaweed.
So Friday night I cooked some sushi rice and sliced up the salmon and prosciutto and seaweed ( ) Along with some Sak'e.
Tonight I cooked the snapper with ginger, spring onions, and Japanese Soya wrapped in banana leaves and cooked it in the Weber Q.
Then served up with broccoli, asparagus, rice and seaweed. Wow I was even impressed and so was Joy.
Tomorrow will be salted grilled salmon and sesame beans.
The song "Turning Japanesa" has be going through my head all day, could this mean something ?
Cheers

archerfish got a reaction from snapper15.4kg in Ling "Eye Fillets"
I picked up some Ling "eye fillets" at a certain western suburbs fishmonger this afternoon and had them for dinner tonight, fried in panko crumbs. They were certainly excellent on the tooth and brilliant value for money, but I can't find any reference online to what part of the Ling the "eye fillets" come from. They were a smallish cut compared to a usual side fillet. Anyone have any clues?
Cheers

archerfish reacted to Panga in Sashimi Meal Tonight
Thought I would share my meal tonight, it was so refreshing.
I did the whole Japanese recipe. Tuna, salmon, 2 different Wasabi's, Sushi / sashimi soya sauce, fresh ginger (grated) and pickled and very finely shredded cucumber with red and black caviar. All washed down with wared Sake.
Super clean and healthy for a change.
Almost feel healthy.
