  1. If i am fishing the snowys for trout then a good set of thermal pants is a must. Even down here in the South east during summer i will wack of on a pair of thermals if its cold. For a normal night a light pair of tracksuit pants with the ends tucked into your socks works fine. Use to hate wearing shorts in a pair of Hornes waders as they use to not feel right. Would sweat a lot in them when it was warm too (not sure why anyone would buy those Hornes PVC waders anymore?). Now i have a pair of riverworks neoprene's and they feel much more comfortable.
  2. I used to fish Semaphore all the time when I was a kid and caught heaps of Gar from that Jetty. Maybe try fishing the Jetty on the rising tide at night. My best sessions were mostly after midnight to first light on a rising tide. I found during the day was hard to get a good feed. The added bonus was that there was always less people to compete with!
  3. @AquaticResearch1 I was getting them up to a kilo but they are getting them up to 5+ kilo. Plenty there and if you get the right day you’ll end up with a few. Plenty of trout in these waters too.
  4. I went over to lake Bullen Merri and caught some Chinook Salmon...does this count? they were very nice in the smoker!
  5. Yabbies.. I got a hunger for some yabbies! anyone tell me when they should start crawling in the river?
  6. Braid all the way. I spend a huge amount of time fishing the surf beaches around salt creek every year targeting mullies. There is no way I would be using mono. As long as you use good graphnel sinkers to keep your line straight in the water then you should not be getting any tangles and besides as soon as your line slackens you should be checking it anyway. For me braid increases hook ups and gives you those extra few meters casting. When it's windy you can still keep your line straight, unlike mono which will have a big bend in the line and then cause the sinker to pull. Just make sure you u
  7. Morgan enough with your 87lber why dont you just marry that fish I like to pat her good night every time i go to bed!! Any more than that and i think my wife will start to worry
  8. The 87lb'er in my avatar was caught on a dodge tide!! Not the best time to fish but you can still be successfull.
  9. Not a great bait in my opinion, although I have caught a couple of fish on them I find I'm far more successfull on other baits. They always seem to attract the wrong fish and in my case it's usually stingrays. I might add I'm beach fishing in the south east it could be different in other locations.
  10. Don't use that bought squid from bait shops, always catch your own as it will work better. If you can't get it yourself then buy it from a fish shop like the fish factory. Mullet fillets work well and the Salt creek servo usually sell them, other wise try and catch a few legal size salmon/mullet out of the surf and use them for bait. Don't rely on catching fish for bait down there always make sure your well stocked before hand.Fresh trevally fillets are also dynamite on gummies if you can get onto a few of these. there are bucket loads of gummies being caught from about 30-60k's north of the T
  11. Just a little info from the PIRSA website in that last post. You may find that people may be reluctant to give out spot's for the Fleurieu and yorke peninsular as they don't have the quantity of cray around these areas, but if you look hard enough i'm sure you will find them, I'm not familiar with these areas so can't help you. You'll more than likley need a good sized boat to access these areas and a quality sounder will assist in finding reef.
  12. Catch Limits and Legal LengthsMinimum legal length: Southern zone (from longitude 139o0’4.80” east to the Victorian border): 9.85 cm Northern zone (from longitude 139o0’4.80” west to the West Australian border, including Kangaroo Island): 10.5 cm (Information about how to measure rock lobsters) Personal daily bag limit: A maximum of 4 rock lobster per person per day, regardless of how they are legally taken Daily boat limit: If taken by only one person (whether by diving, drop or hoop net, or registered rock lobster pot) a maximum of 4 rock lobster per day.If taken by more than o
  13. Cray will generally feed on anything you throw at them, but fresh bait is best in my opinion, i tend to use salmon mostly as it is readily available most times. Any fish will do though. You still haven't given an area you want to fish?? but any where in the south east, KI, bottom of yorkes, bottom of eyre peninsular right up to the WA border holds cray. You'll need to narrow it down a little if you want some one to help you out on a spot. Down here in the South east any bit of reefs holds cray, there's no secret spots cause there's plenty of cray! In other areas of the state the cray are a lit
  14. Your being a bit to vauge in what you want, give us a little bit more info such as which part of the state you want to target? how ??? eg pot's, hoop nets, scuba etc. You can only fish for them between 1st october until 31st may, so you have a couple of months to wait yet.cheers
  15. The drain comes from the Bolivar sewage treatment plant and ends up entering the sea at chapman creek i beleive. The water in it is treated sewage. At times good sized bream can be caught and i've seen people get there bag from there. At other times i've seen plenty of carp caught from it. other times a mixture! Highly reccomend not eating anything from it though.
  16. Sorry MickSA Not having a go at you as your mate could be having you on (bought you the cray etc.) but it needs to be pointed out that the season has ended and maybe we need to be a little more careful on what we say as we don't want people going out doing the wrong thing.
  17. Dosen't matter if it was dead on arrival. To take is to take no matter if it was dead or not. It is said that it was caught yesterday.I'm just pointing out that taking cray out of season is illegal and it should not be encouraged and that obviously some people need educating.
  18. Crayfish season was closed yesterday!!!! (season ends 31 May)Should not be fishing for cray during the closed season!!!!Great mate taking cray out of season

    Juro Tackle

A few years ago i used them alot. They were cheap and nasty but they caught me alot of squid. I used the size 2-2.5 in whatever colour, they use to have black barbs on which i think helped nail more squid.Unfortunatley though they stopped selling them here in my home town and i've gone to using yo-zuri's. A much more well made lure. But i suppose you pay for what you get!Would i use them again? yep, but you need to take a handfull with you as they tend to have a habit of falling to bits after a while.cheers
  20. @jewiehunterThat's a gummy mate not a schoolie!
  21. You wont have a problem picking a gutter between the 28 mile and kingston as the beach has a gutter virtually all the way along. However pick your tides and fish around the high tide as the beach is generally shallower along this stretch. The deeper "blue" water will stand out and as long as your not looking at last light or first thing then a gutter will be easy to find.
