I love them fresh, pretty average frozen imo but I'm picky when it comes to frozen fish.
Probably would be picking sea run fish from a beach or the coorong, as opposed to port river or onkaparinga fish...

I certainly don't have this done pat by any means, hell, only my 3rd go - over past 18 months
So I filleted the Tommies and butterflied the Gar and put them in a brine of 1lt water, 1/4 cup salt and 1/4 cup of brown sugar and in the fridge for 24 hours+.
Got my 'deluxe' Mojiko smoker ready but only had Samba Poultry/Pork chips, so they had to do.
Smoke vent was only just open a tad and smoking well.
Thought maybe 45 minutes but this 30 minutes in, so them off.
Look over done to me compared to other that have a darkish tan, but they tasted ok - a little dry maybe.
The Gar didn't have as much darkness to it and the taste was milder than the tommies.
Practice, Practice and Practice   ......  and catch more fish would help too

Its the first step in a long line of changes coming in the new year and just getting Pirsa to realise that there is a problem and they cant sit on their hands and everything will be ok is a milestone(well actually they didnt realise it but the minister has)Because of the timing wholesale changes that are needed couldnt happen but rest assured they will happen and even a significant number of commercials are on board many of which are generational fishers who would like to stay in the game,PIRSA are at fault here allowing the indiscriminate slaughter by not introducing a TAC which has been called for by recs and commercials alike........wait and see but with fingers crossed for a better future not only with snapper but with all the other species that have been fished to breaking point through pathetic fisheries management from PIRSA.
                           cheers b

I wonder how the conversation went...
If you exclude us from 2 new zones, let us rape the zone that has always been been off limits.
    oh ok deal!!!!
Just ban all 3 zones and be done with it!!
The pro's have screwed themselves, by over fishing from previous years and are now crying as there are no fish and cant make a 'living'!
How serious are they about 'preserving the fish stocks for our grandchildren to catch one day'.
Not that serious by the sounds of it.

Poppa Snake reacted to Aff in NZ Snapper Industry
    Hi all,
I was watching a new fishing show on the TV on Sunday, I think it was called 'Fish of the Day', and the host was saying that in NZ recreational fishing connected to snapper species provides around $88/kg (of the fish) to the country's economy. This would take in tourism connected with fishing, charters,tackle/bait sold etc. I'm assuming.
Compared to $9/kg of snapper that the commercial catch contributes to the NZ local economy. Of which 70% is estimated to be shipped off overseas.
I know stats can be presented in ways to support a particular position, but those two numbers really jump right out at you. I wonder if there are similarities in Australia's fisheries?  If there is, you've really got ask if we're getting the most out of our fish stocks given the current priorities and approaches to fish management?
I found this information interesting anyway thought I'd pass it on.

Where are the groups that want to represent rec fishers?
They should be making sure every South Australian knows this and that PIRSA are trashing our economy giving all our resource to commercial fishers for $9/kg when as a rec fishing resource the same resource is worth ten times as much to the economy.

Poppa Snake reacted to Territory Lad in Wading Tub
Over the last 12-18 months I've got right into my wading and thought I'd have a crack at making my own tub. After a bit of looking around at other set ups, I figured it was best to just dive in and see what happened.
The basic idea was I wanted to be able to carry more than one rod, be mobile amd be organised. After a trip to the hardware store and the local boating store, I had all the parts I needed. Within an afternoon it was done!

Generic UV stablised create, electrical conduit for axels, marker bouys / poly floats for wheels and all secured with S/Steel bolts, washers and nylocks.
Below is a selection of on the job photos.

Overall it works really well. The rod holders allow me to carry multiple rods all rigged differently. This does two things, (1) when I get a season ending wind knot, I just bench the rod and grab another. No lost time not fishing! (2) It speeds up my apprenticeship as I can run multiple options simultaneously and figure out what works in different scenarios.
Only issue I have found is having the reels face inwards takes up a fair amount of room inside the tub and ironically, the reels get wetter inside the tub than outside. This is because when I land a fish, drops of water fall off the net which I dump in the tub during hook removal etc. I tried facing them "backwards" and outside the tub, seems to solve the problem.
1st planned upgrade is a small esky, big enough to fit a YFW in the 30-35cm range!!

    G'day all,
Nearly all my fishing these days is done with lures, but I cannot resist the temptation to go out and scoop up what I see as the prime bait for metro land based fishing... The mighty Bloodworm.🙌
Soooo much fun... Out on the rocks in the pitch black on a windy wintery night with a head torch and a net.😉👍
Last nights conditions were, what I see, as just about prefect for land based collection session. I chose a slightly different spot than in previous years after a little recon the night before. Worked out well as I left after about an hour with plenty of worms, for my needs, and they were still running out in big numbers.👌

Sunset from the night before sussing out a good position.🤔😉

    The view last night.

    The Bloodworms.🙂

    Cheers.

    Whats the update from SAFA?

Thanks for all the replies everyone.
Yeah main reason is the missus family all live in Adelaide and all my direct family moved over west. I have some relies in Kadina and Moonta and for me to move back to SA there was no way I could  ever reside in Adelaide.
I have some relies over at Lincoln but any further out from there she isn't going to agree as they have a reasonable airport to get back to Adelaide for her.
I had to compromise with her otherwise not a happy girl as she has never lived outside a city and is scared she won't like it. No probs for me as I grew up down by Bordertown and have told her for years that we are not retiring in some sh*t hole of a city.
In the end we are trying to compromise with each other as I love the bottom of yorkes but I know that my chances of getting work are at the best remote as for her it doesn't matter as she works from home remote for a Canberra company. The reason  why we started this journey a little earlier is I have and a shoulder reco and can't get rid of industrial dermatitis on my hands so we made the decision that if I have to start a new job may as well move and start a new life 😎

I know what you mean softy but I have lived near some really beautiful families over here and then had the ugly and we would prefer to distance ourselves a bit as it will be our last move. I know you can get some crap in every town and you can't tell what your neighbour will be like so just trying to shorten the odds.
Poppa snake when we get there and settle in I will be looking for deckies as been away for so long my school mates don't have my fishing addiction.😊
I am leaning towards the towns up the top as I've read they might be closing down a few things down the bottom.
The work prospect will also be a lot better up the top also as I'm not rich enough to retire yet ( need to win lotto 😁 )

Poppa Snake reacted to Macca55 in Semaphore Fishing Competition
I have a business at Semaphore and walk down to the jetty nearly every day and never see any kids fishing there. I remember when I was young (long time ago admittedly) we used to go to Henley, Sema4 and LB jetty regularly. So I had this idea to arrange a Junior fishing comp at the Semaphore jetty to encourage kids to get a taste for fishing. I know several businesses that would sponsor costs of promo and all prizes etc but would need volunteers to assist in supervising / judging etc. Ideally it should be managed by a fishing / anglers club but I don't know of any in the area.
I am sure I can get assistance from Rec Fishing SA, other Gov bodies, local schools, Sema4 council etc.  The best timing considering other events at Sema4 would be October school holidays but I think the jetty upgrade may still be happening then. So it could be a weekend in November or Jan/Feb 2019 or October 2019.
Any thoughts or am I wasting my time with this one ?
