  1. Just out of interest Del how much battery life do you get ouf your olympus underwater? I only get a few hours if I am lucky (using flash for my strobe) taking photos underwater with my utough? Have ordered a replacement battery. My wifes panasonic lumix tough thing lasts for days on a single charge....makes me a little pissed lol
  2. sigh seems like there is a lotta hate for sharks in WA They're just doing their thing in the water. This was in the paper last week...hard to gauge the tone of the article..if it is sarcastichttp://www.smh.com.au/opinion/blogs/the-tiger-of-happiness/how-to-kill-a-great-white-20121101-28lpt.htmlam a diver and I love sharks...still shit scared of them tho
  3. The KI scallop fishers/diver were collecting them at one point for a value add? might be worth calling the fishmarkets or Ferguesons there in kingscote?
  4. Hey does anyone know the mob that does charters out of edithburgh and if they are any good? I've seen them at the ramp before but can't remember their name? can't find them in a google search ;)cheers WC
  5. Gary Flack wrote a good article about rock fishing safety in last wild coast? PFDs are a good idea together with a grab bag/throw rope, plus rock shoes (the shoes or boots look like studded dive boots and seem pretty cheap). Know of a case where a safety person stacked it on the shore whilst checking out a team doing boulder surveys, made it mandatory to wear 200 dive boots, Gary's $80 rock boots seem like a better proposition.Condolences to the familys and safe fishing to all on the rocks.
  6. occasionally they will jet in across the bight if the warm currents right from the bottom of WA, usually they end up in the warmer water of pt augusta and die in the shallows up there, trapped by the temp ....but
  7. Thanks aarron and waterboy looks like a sweet issue
  8. lol not everyone in science get paid the big bucks  , but you are right it does depend on the funding body and how much they are offering in their particulary area of interest. Climate Change is certainly a buzzword though and there's probably a few projects out there wasting valuable money because they inserted those two words in on their application at the last minute......however in saying that (complaining about ) research money is hotly contested however and proving you have a project worthy of funding is a whole job in itself! As for repeating things that comes as sorta two
  9. I agree with Ranger, people are entitled to their own opinions but not to push them on others. I don't eat meat everyday and do enjoy lentils (duck and cover ) and would describe myself as conservationist sometimes with my views but still recognise that humans have eaten animals for a long time and its a good source of protein (We are good predators fact) as well as a good past time. When I fish as do the majority of others, we try to dispatch our catch humanely straight away and ensure the ones that are too small get thrown back to live to breed another day!I agree with not writing to her a
  10. are you going to replace your camera soon? Awesome youtube channel btw , what editing software do you use? , have you thought about a Gopro? you can get an LCD backback for it, then a flatport lens set up for HD 1080 cheaper than most. The mounts are good too with with plenty of aftermarket options. I use mine for underwater work but will take it tuna fishing soon on a bucks :vomit:
  11. Great u/water footage , smart (lazy) shark lol
  12. My pa had a SWB Petrol Jackaroo and that was great for the dunes around beachport. Got in heaps far and got bogged...stressed a bit...then the old man noticed the hubs weren't engaged , flicked em on and she just drove out (us idiots) :pinch: . They are ISUZU apart from the badges on the front so would be built well and the diesels would be even better . But I remember reading an article on 4WD magazine about vehicles that are good to turn into good 4WD (with all the 'fruit') under 10000. They listed the suzuki vitera, ford explorer  (big aftermarket scene in the states make parts c
  13. yeah huge snapper there now.. nah lol these are small structures ceffy and we are mainly looking at the fouling communities on different surfaces as well as their responses to 'disturbance'. They are not designed to attract fish
  14. I was with 3 and their coverage is shocking since they decided to merge with vodafone (moved from vodafone to get better coverage and still ended up with them... :S ). I work over on the EP everynow again and struggle to get coverage for 3 in some parts of lincoln (forget tumby bay lol). 3 is cheap though and pretty good value for metro use. I ended up ordering a cheap telstra prepaid next G phone for $50 on the net and then put $60 worth of credit on it (it lasts 12 months as I have chosen the long life option). Its a pain having two phones but it means the if you lose your phone to the sea
  15. Hi have read some previous posts about aircraft wrecks out in the Gulfs, at st Kilda and someone mentioned a Mirage going down. I wondered if anyone knows anything more about them, location, type, depth? They need to be surveyed by an maritime acheologist (prob with sidescan first and then maybe a camera sled) everynow and again though not much will be there (a friend, not me :pinch: )cheers
