  1. I personally dont think it would be profitable. Alot of red tape, we dont have a large population so the market is pretty small even more so if only at 1 location and most people want them at night. Think about the money put into kingfish farming. What do you think the price would need to be to make a buck? How many do you think would sell in a week? (given 7 days of fine weather)
  2. 1 of the many reasons I only see garden island as i drive past in the boat after launching at snowdens. Way to many people who frequent the area have no respect even for themselves. Im sure these were caught by an expert mully fisherman who calls them pests, if the unlucky rays had gotten off whats the bet tales of lost 50lb'ers circled the group of morons.
  3. Take someone with you and dont turn your back on the water. Carry as little as you can get away with in a backpack because you want 1 hand free when walking those rocks. Trust me i've seen someone go face first into them after loosing their balance.Good luck.
  4. Yep, done the same :c . Ended up as burly for me as i wasnt prepared to put it on a hook.
  5. If you have a 4x4 and can beach launch your boat, Acramans creek (spelling could be way wrong not sure its even pronouced like that but its close). Is an all weather option but just as easily fished from the shore. The bay to the right of the creek mouth around the point is another launch option and the sand patches hold big whitting, never had a problem getting in or out of the creek but a mate lost his car on the beach while by himself as the jog back to Smokey took to long. It was never really an option so know the tides. Be careful on the water as you are in a remote location as you kno
  6. I'd never spend money like that on a rod without holding it just because it looks good and i like the specs. What if its not how you IMAGINE it to be? To me some rods just dont feel right but they still looked good, thats why i picked em up. If you get the combo spool it up with 10-15lb or buy another spool, i've done this with a couple of reels and it means you use them alot more. Something important to me if it costs almost a weeks wage, plus the Steez's drag wants to do some work Does look like a nice combo.
  7. You are correct about what the yanks use them for and thats throwing lures. They call them baits, softbaits, spinnerbaits stick and hardbaits etc. I have a few that i use on the boat mainly for trolling, whitting fishing and jigging lures while on the drift. To me when on the drift thats when they shine as you have alot more control of the line and can keep your bait in a sand hole for longer or if you feel a bite take your thumb off the spool and keep your bait near the fish. When the driftspeed picks up its much easier to let out line and stay in contact with the bottom.I use my Shimano 200
  8. I've done a few trips with no luck on the mullys, only perch and bream. There is a couple of caravan parks you can stay at, rent a house or camp in the park. Cabins in the caravan park up the hill (cant remember the name) were pretty cheap but camping next to where you launch is great, last trip we camped at pritchards and sites 9,10 and 11 would be my pick. Not sure if you can just rock up and camp as we booked a couple sites on Vic National Parks website. As for fishing turn right after the bridge and talk to the boat hire or kiosk. GET HOT CHIPS FROM THE KIOSK! best ever.
  9. LOL So the fish in question didnt get caught it was only hooked? Oh well fisherman will be fisherman.
  10. plenty of red mullet/goatfish where inlet pipes are ocean side so thats my guess on the redfish. As for a yellowfin bream in Westlakes thats a first, and a 60cm black in metro Adelaide WOW!
  11. They can scare the crap out of you if its dark and they fly out of the channel up onto the flats right at ya feet! Last thing we needed after having a few huge rays swim between us just before dark.
  12. Just wondering if you've noticed an increase in boat traffic lately and your having a go at slowing it down? (i've been up a few times this year) Fair bit of talk/articles/posts in recent times so i wouldn't blame you. Lets hope its not someone on this forum or someone with info from it. Mully's should be part of the new laws regarding possession limits IMO. The FWC? Isolated, expensive and it might take a few trips before you score. How many people would take more than they should because of fishless trips or the "well we've been here 5 days already" attitude.Laws DO deter SOME people fro
  13. Dont believe everything you hear at the ramp. 10% of anglers catch 90% of the fish so the saying goes and i bet 9% keep quiet when a metro spot is hot.
  14. YFW on poppers is great fun but ive found the tide needs to have just turned to run in and you can see the schools moving up onto the flats (big thanks to HookinPylons for showing me his spot! ) I've got some new ones for U. Btw everyone the Port is full of them! Back to topic, I use a sinking style popper while HP uses a floating type he can get away with a stop/start while i need to keep the lure moving to work it properly. I think the most important thing when doing this kind of fishing is that the fish are actively feeding (tide related) When the school sees your popper and 1 or 2 fish pe
