Another quick Pat session. This time I decided to use bait and relax a bit more. Ended up with a dozen bream and 3 STs. Biggest fish went 37cm and gave me a bit of curry which was fun. Most bream caught on whitebait although I managed a few on prawns.Cheers

They are all over the place crispy, its always just been one of those things that people dont go around advertising.I"d poke my neck out and say we have one of the best populations of them ,but here in SA the goolwa cockle has ruled the roost since the year dot and been the go to bait and so readily available and successful that clickers have never really got a mention or look in.,never been a need ,it use to be just go down the baitshop and grab a pint of cockles,or a pack of tubies.[but an awesome bait went barely talked about or sought]Only the dedicated and extra keen would scab around and get their own bait, hence i reckon bait pumps have never really been a top seller here.cheers

Great photos TT.I also headed down to the Pat recently and was fortunate enough to find some bream, salmon and even a few mullet on HBs. Even managed my first surface-caught fish: a ST!

I went yesterday with the kids. I wouldn't say we found thousands (the kids helped for all of 5 minutes, then made sand castles for the rest of the time), but probably a couple of hundred in an hour or so, but they were all big. I used a combination of sitting in the wash and digging for them with my hands, and digging for them with a little foldable shovel.I saw another bloke using an interesting technique which looked to be effective. Had a little wire basket the size of a small bin, and using a long handled shovel just kept digging and putting all the sand in the basket. As the water rushed in and out it washed away the sand and left the cockles behind in the cage. It took him about 15 minutes to collect what I did in an hour. Very effective and it would take all of 2 minutes to make a wire basket from some old bird cage or chicken coop mesh.

Got to o sullies ramp late today for a quick snook flick and a snorkel around some reefs today. As I was putting the boat in the water today the shop guy was on the ramp saying there was a snapper floating in the marina and was just letting people know ir was there, I thought oh yeah could have been a decent one! As we started to leave the ramp we motored over to it and it was a 10 kg specimen! My blood started to boil .... It was fresh too! Some knob head must have caught it kept it and the come into the marina and dumped it, in thinking fisheries must have been there and then these douche bags got scared and dumped it overboard to waste away! Can anyone confirm if fisheries were at osullies this arvo????? Very interested! I wish these tools got caught!! Why are they even fishing for snapper ATM! This snapper was huge I doubt it was a whiting rod by- catch! I know u can get good size ones on light gear but seriously I think this one was targeted! It's just suss to me! Plus ive seen a few boats out on barges n other snapper drops this week which is suss too! Unless they going for sharks or snapper there ain't a reason they should be out there ! That fish at the ramp tho is really pissing me off!!! That fish was at least 30 years old and some1 illegally caught it and then dumped it!!!Sorry for my rant guys but this is not good and I just don't get why people think they are above everybody else plus the law!

Unfortunately this is the case. I think the 'powers-that-be' get a bit too trigger happy with implementing new laws while forgetting that criminals, by definition, are not going to obey them. Then they wonder why their laws aren't having the desired effect and instead are just pissing off the honest people who do the right thing. Less laws, more law enforcement I say.

I guess theoretically it can happen occassionally but I reckon it would be a complete waste of time if u specifically targeted them like that. I will stick with the yamashitas any day. Thanks for sharing though. Interesting read.

breambo25 got a reaction from Double Trouble in Ballooning
Here is what first came up when I researched balloon rigs. After reading through this I think doing it this way would work pretty well for dead baits too.http://www.gcfishing.com/ballooning.htmPersonally, I have never heard anything about the use of tennis balls but then again, I am definitely not a beach fishing expert. If you are fishing during the daytime, I don't think the use of a glow stick would be a necessity. The balloon itself should be enough of a visual indicator for you.You also asked whether it is wise to use a glow stick when fishing off a beach at night time. I presume you are asking this with the intention of using the glow stick as an indicator? In response, I don't really think that you necessarily need to use one. The reason being that it is just one more thing you need to tie onto your line and its also just one more thing which can potentially tangle up in your rig. (This is obviously quite annoying when fishing at night considering the difficulty it is to untangle in low light conditions). I think that you would be much better off attatching a simple rod bell to the tip of your rod. This way, when a fish takes your bait and swims off with it, you can clearly hear the bell ring instead of having to strain your eyes looking out at a glowstick all night long. Rod bells can be bought for a reasonably cheap price at just about any tackle store. Even places like Big W at Cross Rd have them too.Good luck with it.

They both have to their own better departments over eachother!I think broken down this how it goes. Note: This is only my personal opinion.Light/Bream Spin Reel = Daiwa.Light/Bream Rod = ? + Others.Medium Offshore ie. Snapper Reels = ShimanoMedium Offshore ie. Snapper Rods = Shimano.Surf Rods and Reels = Shimano.Fly Reels and Rods = Not that I would pick either of these Brands but Shimano.Overhead included Baitcaster Reels. = Shimano.Overhead included Baitcaster Rods = Shimano.Game Rods and Reels = Shimano.Jig Rods and Reels/ Popping = Shimano/Daiwa?Lures = Daiwa.Line = Diawa.Accessories = Shimano.Thats just my opinion I love both brands and think that they are the best brands in the world! Personally I think Daiwa will make you look good and give you awesome finesse. But Shimano gives you all grunt!Brands and Gear are only restricted buy what you want to use them for! They are both the Bees Knees!Cheers TT

breambo25 got a reaction from Robo! in Water Clarity
When fishing for squid it is best to wait for around 3-4 days after a big blow/ rain / storm. This gives the water time to settle back own and also means that the sun will have more time to evaporate the freh water sitting on top of the salt water which means you don't have to fish for squid too deep. Squid love clear water because it enables them to spot prey easily. Plus, during a storm squid tend to hide away and switch off feeding wise.
