  1. It has a "sea knight deluxe" sticker on it can't find any info on that one. The egg beater it came with is definitely old, not an abu thats for sure. I don't know much about surf rods so no idea what rating it feels like but i know butterworth is/were really good so I grabbed it.
  2. Certainly looks the same sticker. Google hasn't been overly productive with this information though 😦 Pity I can't find anything else about this rod like its rating etc. Oh well I'm sure something will turn up eventually. Cheers
  3. Picked up this surf rod at a garage sale today and noticed that it said it was made for Len Butterworth. It also has a "sea knight deluxe" sticker on it. But thats all. Im not after anything special just wanted something to use for the smaller stuff. Cheers for any help
  4. Am looking at getting 2 surf rods, one for bigger species and one for smaller species. Am wanting to target snapper/gummies with the heavier rod and the lighter one for flathead, salmon etc. I also want both to be egg beater reels. I'm not confident using alvey reels and I don't like casting overheads (bird nest king). while practice makes perfect I need more practicality for now while I'm time poor. Also looking in the lower price bracket. I'd love a daiwa or shimano or custom rod but for now the money isn't there. New or second hand doesn't bother me either. As always,Cheers in advance
  5. wasnt too close to check it out, just picked the yellow n white combo
  6. righto didnt think i recognised the boat in ur pic/avatar thing. that said were you over this weekend? saw one similar that had just been pulled out of the water
  7. jmills,ur living in ardrossan for about 12 months or so, if you dont mind me asking what r you doing here i might know someone ur working with.bigred,r u an ardrossan resident or a regular visitor?
  8. once again what do you want to catch and where from, salmon from the surf requires a different setup to squid from a boat to sharks from a jetty and so on and so on. also if you are just starting out dont go spending heaps on your rods n reels, get the feel for what you are doing and when you have a much better of what you are doing upgrade then and notice the difference. go to a good tackle store (not big W/kmart etc) but try the directory at the top of the page and then click on bait and tackle and one of the stores there will be able to point you in the right direction give them your budget
  9. as above, plus dont forget all the puffer fish/toadies they r everywhere
  10. i have that exact rod and i love it. i'm not sure what the reel is but its a 1000 shimano thing that compleat angler at wallaroo had in a bargain bit cost me $20 that i put 6lb spiderwire(i think thats what it was) on. the rod was a gift from a mate so all up it cost me next to nothing but i love the thing
  11. i had a quick search on the net and saw a youtube video about how to spool line (i usually do it the wrong way and after a few huge casts the line twist sorts itself out well enough to keep using, but braid will be different so i need to learn how to do it properly) here is the link this the recommended way or is there a better way? i will also have to do it myself so any tips on that will also be handy, cheers
  12. hi i just got myself a nice new rod that came with some rovex braid. i havent used braid before so i'm after a bit of advice. first of all are there any tips to spooling it onto the reel? other than that is there anything else i need to know?cheers in advancedamo.
  13. a surf rod will be a bit too big for the jetty something around 7 foot would be manageable. and then decide on what your target will be. for yellowfin whiting a 2kg rod with a light tip they can be hard to feel biting. this rod can be used for garfish tommies snook bream salmon trout etc any quality table fish. then there is the humble squid that (i dont live in adelaide but someone can correct me if im wrong) can be caught from any jetty where there is some weed will need a handline or slightly heavier rod so it doesnt snap with the dead weight feel of a squid. some jetties can produce snappe
