  1. Graplings (like your pic above) suck (my opinion) as they become easily embeded in the sand and then you have to bust off, as you've mentioned. Also not a huge fan of stars as the 'plough' thru the water upon retreval which can be a pain. Had a similar discussion a few years ago and stumbled across the breakaway style, which i had previously never heard of. Breakaways are more a 'torpedo' shape and are a dream to retreave back in too. 2. Fingers crossed for a return of the "annual" Kangaroo Island Salmon trip this season. Bugger not til July tho .
  3. Mmmm, flathead & calamari .Two of our ocean's best there!
  4. Had a go yesterday morning at the Corcoran Drive park. Was way too interested in the playground, particulary the sit-on backhoes in the sand there- must admit they were pretty cool! Also had the wind in our faces which made casting, feeling & watching line and holding it out there too hard. We moved to another spot so the wind was behind us but unfortunately the other playground there also took his fancy! Upended his chocolate milk in the drink and was facinated buy the milky brown cloud in the water! No fish but a good day out. Too right there. Hmmm. Curious,
  5. Easy. Will knock a few up tonight and have a crack tomorrow morning.
  6. Ok so Browns is now open http://www.strikehook.com/index.php/topic/26385-dorsal-fin-sa-fishing-report-03062015/
  7. Cheers plankon, Just what i was after! Park and sandy beach is great, will bring the bucket and spade too. Picked up the TackeRatz combo this morn. Probably over-analysing things......will they fish ok with a westerly (forcasted to drop to 12km by 0930 anyway), given they both face west ? Was thinking unweighted or light running rig, with said prawns? Otherwise that leaves (east facing): Bower Rd end, western side -no playground Oarsman Reserve - no playgroundand dont want to contend with rowers, kyakers etc! Park down Military Rd, near Moredun St - no playground Trimmer Pd
  8. My son (3yrs) is pretty keen to "go fishing with daddy" and im rather keen to foster his interest! I'm after some advice from those who have been thru such, in terms of ideas, dos, don'ts ect. I couldnt care less what we target as long as he can at least have a go, feel a bit of action, see a fish & let it go. Landbased, patternoster for ST/tommies/mullet is what im thinking. West Lakes (gives us little bream to catch & release too), in in front of one those parks so he can run around & arse on some play equipment when the novelty wears off (can then head off to the Rai
  9. Lower yorkes would be my choice too. Gives you options to move around if the wind blows hard from one direction. Corny Pt, Pt Souter, Pt Turton, Marion Bay ect.... For salmon, there's Berry Bay, The Dust Hole, Gleeson's Landing (4wd) and into Innes NP. Note that the road to Browns Beach is currently closed (?). http://www.environment.sa.gov.au/parks/Home/Media_Centre/News_Events_Listing/150331-innes-road-closures Had a few trip with the lads renting a place for a few nights off this site: http://www.accommodationonyorkes.com.au/
  10. All credit here goes to Totes.......Ive just compiled his marvelous recipe to a pdf. http://www.strikehook.com/index.php/topic/25549-brighton-squid-03122014/ Made this one tonight with a few variations with what i had available. Used roughly 50/50 chicken mince/minced squid wings rather than pork mince, omitting the chopped tentacles. Also used Penang paste as that's what i had opened (didnt have any chives or lemongrass either). Went lazy and used sweet chilli insead of knocking up the dipping sauce. Delicious ! 11. Possible. However conditions when the snaps are in close (your hardest task) can frequently call for 3-4oz leads.........or more. I know of a bloke using 6oz breakaways in the rough stuff, metro . So if you're sticking to conditions that work within your rod's capabilities, give it a crack, you will need to suss out your 'landing strategy' tho. My guess is they have become pretty sparse lately but they can come in close all year round.
  12. Take it back. Probably a dodgy assembly at the factory. Happens. Should feel smooth & sweet out of the box, as you would expect for a (normally) $200 reel. Mechanism will be essentially the same as the Sienna's - just better mateials, bearings, seals ect. I've a 2500 Sienna , over 5 years old, been dunked plenty of times, still going strong (has been stripped & lubed a few times tho).
  13. Moved further up Magill Rd, just up past that blue 2 story paint place & before Glynburn Rd.... they got kicked out by their landlords. Yeah and they also dumped the franchsie and have called themselves Gotcha.
  14. Another option: Get a few mates together, do a charter & rent a shack. Be it Yorkes, KI, Eyre, West Coast or even Cape Jervis; where ever you want Some operators will bundle their own accommodation in with the deal. Cant think of any names other than i know Reel Action out of Marion Bay do such. A mate of mine's done a couple of stay-on-board Nomad charters and recons it was s**t hot. Tho around $10k is kinda way beyond my budget . http://nomadsportfishing.com.au/wordpress/
  15. Nice one. sounds super easy too. Hmmm got some in the freezer somewhere. Sezchuan does have a rather unique flavour so you cant really exchange with the black stuff. Any of those Asian grocers will have it by the kg or Gaganis.
  16. Ive done mostly wading so its been a matter of what i can realisically work with my light outfit, limiting me to around 45mm. Ive caught them up to around 40cm this way. 70/90mm should be fine but depending on what sort of outfit/action/tip you are using, i dont see why you couldnt go bigger and 'weed out' the bigger specimens. They can be super greedy and i could easily believe a 20cm ST landed on a 90mm popper! When they are 'on' they coudnt care less what colour but go mad for the surface splash & bubbles. I do like something a bit 'shiny' to to sparkle in the water a bit. Putt
  17. Tis a beautiful part of Australia (pity the Vics claim the fame tho ). Walked & ridden parts but never fished. To go back to your orginal issue re lures. I'll happily admit to knowing SFA 'bout trout but suggest some spinners (celtas/mepps) and some lil hardboddies. Some of those Rapalas look sexy. Suprised no one has suggested something there? Might add 'The River Somewhere' lads did another ep on 'The Cobungra', out Omeo way.
  18. Cant beat the rush with poppers & stickbaits ...........If you can get a hungry school in close enough and conditions permit. Metals are more effective but poppers are the most fun you'll have with your pants on.
  19. And i just found it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKAxpI5rd_k Damn i loved that show!
  20. The Howqua River's pretty nice, not too far from Mansfield. Recon you'd wanna get in ther before Easter tho. That Sheepyard Flat campground would be pretty popular. I recon the lads did 'A River Somewhere' episode there a few years ago.
  21. Wading Franklin Harbour, Cowell. 21/02/15. First on HB and smashed my PB. Fun on the 1-3kg outfit, going fully airborne twice. Was pretty worried about the 8lb leader. Took 2 nets to land, head & tail simultaneously.
  22. Great idea Bjorn. Willl see what i can put together .
  23. You're old enough to remember the sinking of the Rainbow Warrior.........?
