  1. Geez, nice work. Was pretty sure you couldnt fish the Yacht Squadron tho 'cause the missus' uncle has his yacht in there and needs an access pass to even get in the joint? Unless you're going 'round the side where the channel exits the marina and that poxy excuse for a boat ramp is?
  2. Only noteworthy was the nice big buck that re-venisoned the freezer . Other than that, struggled for time, other than small mix bags of st/tommies/yfw. Too much turf & not enough surf .
  3. Nup but it certainly looks like a possibility there. Id gather it is probably a night time scenario tho. Im sure you will give it a solid attempt and keep us all posted. Damn you have too much time....
  4. It very much depends on what im cooking, so a bit of everything really. Often i scale, fillet and leave the skin on. A light flour and on the bbq plate with bit of butter/olive oil. Im not bothered by skin so will either eat it or leave it on the plave when eating. Love skin-on snapper fillets, bbqed crispy with a bit of bacon fat! Skin if crumbed. Whole baked/poached works well, particularly for fish that are tricky to fillet like bream, sweep, flounder ect. If i ever buy fresh trout i always poach them whole wrapped in foil with sliced lemon & fresh sage. Just need to make su
  5. Might have to have a look this week. If only you wernt so far a drive!
  6. Having never used them before, what are peoples thoughts/experience with breakaway sinkers? As of yet, I have only been comfortable fishing 4oz star sinkers plus bait with my heaviest outfit (Penn Prevail 12” 8-12kg, dont even know what it can actually comfortably throw). Certainly on some of the more energetic beaches a 4oz star is useless with any decent side current. Can one get away with more ‘anchorage’ with less weight with the breakaways vs stars? Say crudely does a “3oz breakaway = 4oz star” or something along those lines? Anyone doing the DYI thing and pouring their own sta
  7. Exactly what i do: lenght of 90mm storm PVC, 1 end cap glued on, rods in cheap bags, other cap pushed on.One roughly 4' for 6-7' rods, another just over 6' for 9-12' rods. Can strap them to the roof for trips then too (might want to pin the pushed-on end).
  8. Never seen anything like it, only the cheap bags of various sizes to suit 1 rod in 1 or 2 pieces.Sounds like a custom job?
  9. Nah mate, just dont like the 'massive floor space chocked to the gunnels of dubious quality own-branded gear at el cheapo prices'.I prefer to to take my buisness to those carrying good gear with informed staff who know their stuff, love to fish and love a good yarn about fishing! If not, then it's Mo.
  10. Pehaps but Anaconda is a :c hole!
  11. I digress a little..... tomatoes! Make for a pretty mean smokey tomato & BBQ sauces.Alas if i had the luxury of smoking tuna, has been st and tommies for me .
  12. Why not chuck out the big gear with some frozen squid/salmon/tommie etc, then target mullet & salmon trout for fresh bait when you get there?Fresh & bloody best & you're in control of bait quality then.
  13. Cal's on the money. The track 'to the right' has a gate off the Gleesons road and runs a km or so to the north, on the eastern side of the dunes before cutting thru to the beach. The track is actually do-able in 2wd untill if cuts thru the dunes where there is deep soft sand in areas. Would be a decent walk thru the dunes. Take a look via Google maps will give you an idea. Can drive to The Dust Hole carpark, just south off Daly Heads then a nice 'west coast' style set of steps down the the beach. Does give you an excellent view of prospective gutters. Seems some drive onto the beach through the
  14. Surf Based? Nice gutters nothern end Gleesons Landing; similarly The Dust Hole, directly south of Daly Heads, tho Gleesons a tad better. Mullet, Salmon, Mulloway, Shark. Ive heard snapper in the surf Gleesons too.Nice spot. Enjoy.
  15. Proceeding the snapper season closure, I had noticed their stomach contents chockers with rock crabs. Well for my land based fishing anyway. Im talking about the small brown rock crabs that seem prolific round most of the metro rock walls not sand or blueys. Was wondering if anyone has targeted such using crabs as bait, particly how to bait them up? Im generally tring the cast a fair way out 3-4oz lead ect so need to be on the hooks farily well. Do i pull a couple of legs off & thread the hook thru? Cut them in half and tie on with bait thread? Back of shell on or off? What sized hooks, I
  16. Another great post there Des.Your old rig managed the missus and i a yfw dinner a few weeks back but i like the look of that new rig, does seem towards the 'stinger hook' approach i hear them use over east. Also had a yarn or 3 to Trevor and found them a most helpfull bunch of blokes there.Question regarding your bait: are you using freshly collected od frozen worms?
  17. Never been there specifically, so there's my waveier to start with! Nevertheless, on the to do list. You'll need to go further down the coast to Beachport. Its basically bout 1km west of Beachport township, along the coastal tourist drive, 'Bowman Scenic Drive' i think? Looks real pretty like on google!I gather it fishes best in rough weather, as the fish come in behind the reef for shelter, similar to Browns over on Yorkes.Be sure to give us some feed back even if it's just reconnaissance.
  18. As JB86 says, zip locked in small amounts when fresh so you dont have to defrost too much at once. Bags are nice and thick so dont split or get cut up as easily.Agree with Knackers too; once defrosted they salt down really well & then stay on the hooks better than your frozen ones.
  19. Occasionally been using 8/0 Gamakatsu Octupus Circle's. These have 20mm gape so 6/0s should be fine; just wack one on the ruler and check! My 60lb Black Magic leader says 0.70mm on the pack so cant see 60lb leader going thicker than 1mm either.
  20. Been done by the spikes behind the gills a number of times.Aches a bit but nothing too painfull. Slime on the spikes seems to act as an anticoagulant. Ive had the smallest wounds bleed all day which can be a bit annoying.
  21. Perhaps check your local tackle shop. Many hold past issues of the various mags.
  22. Thanks for the imput fellas,Great to hear that i can certainly have crack with the 1-4kg Jewel. Will upgrade the reel and have a look at some rods whilst im at it!
  23. Hello folks,Noticed some good deals around so like to piece a light mulloway outfit when inside the coorong starts up agian.Im after an boat outfit for plastic/lures work that i can shift over to bait when i get fed up with flicking lures. What are people using?I like to fish light 'cause its more fun but not overly light 'cause i still like to catch a few.Was looking at: Raider mexican fire II Snapper Lt 732, 4-7kg, 7-21g.
