jagger got a reaction from Jack. in Goolwa Beach to Mouth Advice ?
Couldn't agree more Jack.Have you ever been from Wirrina to Cape Jervis by boat? Amazing cliff faces down the waters edge where some parts are 40ft at the cliffs base with crystal clear water....the stuff dreams are made of!From memory it's around 8k from Goolwa beach to the mouth by car and you can always find a stretch of a few hundred meters to yourself. Cockles, sand castles...all good.Watch the entrance to the beach. you come down the ramp and no worries for the first 200m then it gets real soft real quick. Make sure it's clear and power through. It will only takes 5 seconds of gas and you'll be on the hard stuff and can jump out of 4x4.It can get very soft around towards the mouth and by all means, watch you tides. Best to go on an outgoing. Grab some cockles, build some castles then head to the mouth for some mullet and flick out some livies/plastics for some mullies. Good times !The old man taught me to drive on the beach down there at 16 so it can't be too hard.Hope you have fun and remember to stick to the speed limit on the beach. No one seems to but that doesn't mean you shouldn't! Kids everywhere.

Quick trip so a quick report...Took the eldest (4) down to old noarlunga for a sesh in some shade around the back.He managed to catch 3 little bream all by himself with the smallest going no longer than 50mm.Normally hook them for him but his patience is growing so very proud Dad!! Together we managed around a dozen, none bigger than 180mm but it wasn't about the size today :)Went up the rong yesterday and got 4 nice mullies before moving spots and losing the prop. Not sure what happened but a very kind local Mundoo resident gave us a tow back in and refused $50 for the effort saying what goes around comes around. 2 thumbs up!!

My sentiments exactly Jimbo !!Made only funnier by the fact that I to have done this  I had a mate leave a packet of squid in the back of my old wagon which managed to slip down into the wheel well....only to be discovered months later once the smell had finally gone.Great read Jack and a warning to all.

That's exactly what we do at Cape Jervis Ranger. Even mark where we got the fish and focus on getting the baits back around those points if the wind changes etc. No point drifting to far off the mark if there aren't any fish 600m off the spot!Another tip is measure your anchor rope out and thread coloured rope through every 20ft or so. Blue for 20, green for 40, red for 60 and so on (have a visual chart handy to!) If you know you only have an approx the same amount of line out as the water deapth you are in, the chain wont have the oportunity to hold on the bottom let alone the anchor which is probably skimming the surface the bottom.Hope this makes sense?

Not sure about the tide effecting the crabs coming closer to shore but it sure makes the fisherman get closer to the crabs.Rule of thumb for spearfishing around Adelaide (but please check PIRSA) From outer harbour to the southern side of the onka mouth and 500 odd mt out is a no go.I wouldn't bother with a spear for crabs, rakes are better and do less damage to juvenile crabs if used correcty. Spear and undersized crab and it's a lose lose situation

SAFWAA or SAFFA are the primary options here Bass13.Both have their pros and cons but I doubt you would be dissapointed with either.

Things haven't changed one bit for me.Same old spots, same old hooks, same old fish!I know for some they are now restricted in how they go about things but it's less complicated for those that have a boat. A few have lost or going to lose the odd spot, some have to down size hooks. At the end of the day does it stop them fishing? No.The world is always an evolving beast and we can either choose to evolve with it or be left behind. My best advice is stick to the basics and don't think too much about what you want to catch. Do you really have to reinvent the wheel to do it?

Personally reckon it’s pretty lenient. Not a bad thing though.144 fillets of KGW is a lot of fillets. I don’t think I have ever had more than 3 days worth (72 fillets) in the freezer before at one time.

Daiwa spinShimano overheadsand a mixture of Penn thrown in for good measure.Hard to go past Abu for simplicity though as well not that I own one but grew up on them.Rods....I seem to mainly stick to Shimano. Tried some Daiwa rods but just can't go past raiders for value for money. Ian Miller certainly has his finger on the pulse for the average fisherman

Love the fact that you can regularly locate snapper schools bailing up bait around structures. You see them on the sounder, drop the line with the anticiaption of an almost instant hit sometimes.Mulloway seem to be a bit more of a waiting game and sadly I'm a very impatient fisherman so it's snapper for me all the way.

Congrats on your first trout.I too kept one of my first but actually felt regretful whilst cleaning it. Too pretty to not put back I reckon and the best thing is you no know where they are and you can go back and catch the same fish over and over if released.Anyway...to the recipe.Baked in alfoil with some herbs, lemon butter etc is the easiest way to go.You can also smoke them whole but I must admit, the ones I tasted I wasn't particularly fond of. Muddy compared to a nice clean snapper or whiting

Another point - to my knowledge tournaments still have to follow PIRSA regs. Having said that, as long as the catch is withing these regs you shouldn't have a problem taking anything of legal length
