  1. It was all about catching sand whiting on surface lures and how his experiences could translate to our yellowfin whiting. Starting from the beginning was gear talk; graphite rods, 1000-2500 sized reels with 6lb braid and 8-15lb leader depending on bycatch (flathead, tailor, salmon, trevally etc). Next the lures and the main three that Bushy rated highly were the Bassday Sugapen, Atomic K9 Bulldog and Zerek Trail Weaver in lures that are transparent. Instead of the trebles Bushy definitively recommended using assist hooks, home made or bought in the size 8-10 size. If making your own then have
  2. I look forward to you ticking them off AR1. You can get salmon over 3kg from Waits/Parsons on ocassion, just keep on the move to find the schools when they’re in full swing. Fishing the Murray for cod will be lots of hours but the reward is worth it! Learninglures I really hope you tick the double off as a 20lb snapper especially is an epic fish from a boat let alone a kayak. AussieDave hope you’re on the mend, can’t keep a good man out for long. Good time of year to tick off the mully and kingie if you are prepared to fish the Port and Augusta respectively. Meppstas, you’re sm
  3. With this year nearly halfway through, I thought it be time to revisit some fishing goals I had set for this year. I was wondering if any other S&H members had any fishing goals for this year they’ve ticked off or aim to in the next 6-7 months? Personally I’ve had a good year so far with a lot of new PBs and new species ticked off including first SBTs and samsonfish, PB snapper, kingfish, flathead, callop and cod etc. For the rest of the year I have a couple more goals to tick off. Mainly a salmon over 4kg, new PB kingfish (>5kg), new PB bream (&
  4. You will be missed in that store for sure. Sad to see you leaving the industry but I know you’ll be back in the future. Probably under better circumstances. Im looking forward to us fishing more though. Yorkes is calling us...
  5. Burners was peaceful until I nearly blew us up with that dodgy butane cooker ahaha. Yorkes is an awesome place to camp and fish like the others have mentioned. It’s probably myself and Southie’s most common overnighter trips. So many options available.
  6. I was wondering how she got brook trout in SA, explains it if she’s photo stealing etc.
  7. Nice rod Southie! Hopefully you get it bent next tues/wed when we go fishing. Here's my newest purchases for the upcoming cod season and a new callop setup as well because my old rod got cut by a car door.
  8. In regards to the GT Video, here is one of the pro staffers I know using the Duck on GTs last year ahaha! Match the hatch!
  9. Check out the Savage Gear Roadrunner 6-10kg. 4 piece, 7 foot flat, full graphite, etc. I've got one that's my heavy travel rod aimed at barra and cod etc. $139 isnt too expensive for a reasonable travel rod either. http://www.bcf.com.au/Product/Savage-Roadrunner-Travel-Spin-Rod/377561
  10. Berkley ones are good as most of the time your hooks don't get too caught up in them as there's no mesh. I use the smaller yak one for all my light tackle fishing and it works a treat. A few of my mates have the largest Berkley net that they use for cod up the murray and it's a good net. Environets are good nets also but if you pick either of them I don't think you'll have too many issues.
  11. Just ordered some swimbaits and picking up a new bc rod in the next couple of days. Pretty excited for new gear!
  12. Nice work Dutchy! Hopefully when the Tuna are on you get your fair share of fish!
  13. I used that exact rod down at the Dust hole a couple years ago with Southie. Matched up to a stradic 5000 and 30lb braid I cast 45g metals fairly well and we got some nice salmon. However, I felt like I needed to give the rod a bit more weight and would've cast further. I like my 902 Shimano as it's lighter in hand but thats just me. I can cast more comfortably with the 9fter than the 12ft prevail with the same lure weight.
  14. Nice work Bloodworm! Very good baits for a lot of species
  15. Try the Hopkins River near Warnambool for bream, mullet, salmon. Don't forget to buy a Victorian fishing license as well. I believe you can buy them for a weekly duration rather than a single day or annual basis.
  16. Nice looking dam Wilda! Plenty of yabbies for food and bait so the trout should bulk up well and good, especially coming into winter.
  17. Smashed them JAYMAN! Well done sir, suppose Xmas lunch had a nice pannie to share around?
  18. Stay tuned for 2017 Sbarnden! The little Blade Preys are discontinued so stock up while you can but SavageGear will be bringing out a new style of them next year! Details are that they're going to come with trebles instead of doubles, the weight to size ratio will be a little better in mimicking prey profiles but the colours will be similar; a silver, gold, black, olive and something a bit out there.
  19. Smashed them Kenny and Bjorn! Well done and it's great to see fish starting to roll in along the metro coast
  20. Every year at the beginning of salmon season this question arises, also with what lures work best, etc. Here is a small list of links to previous threads on this: Salmon setups: http://www.strikehook.com/index.php/topic/26699-looking-for-an-ulitmate-lure-throwing-weapon-surf-rod/ http://www.strikehook.com/index.php/topic/26510-show-us-your-salmon-lure-flicking-setup-or-dream-setup/ Salmon lures: http://www.strikehook.com/index.php/topic/26522-favourite-salmon-lures/ http://www.strikehook.com/index.php/topic/16493-whats-ya-favourite-salmon-lure/ Salmon rigs: http://www.strikeh
  21. That's some awesome footage there Chuck! Quadcopter adds that extra dimension to make videos look just like the ones on the telly. What model is yours Chuck and is it an in-built camera or have you got a GoPro attached?
  22. Might have to search my local store and pick myself up one of those for that price. I need a new 1-4kg stick so good timing.
