  1. I think Fishing Wholesalers used to stock a couple Daiwa reels in the 500 or 750 size but I haven't been there for awhile.
  2. I can attest to the quality of these prints on offer. Bought two myself and given one other as a gift and all three are amazing!
  3. The old Sedonas were a nice reel for value. The new ones aren't too bad from what I've heard. Other nice reels around that mark are the current Daiwa Legalis 2014 model, ATC Valiant For what you're looking at, a Daiwa 2000, 2504, 2506 would be ideal as each size holds around 120m of PE1. http://daiwafishing.com.au/products/spinning-reel-spools-part-1/
  4. It's a lot easier to pick a winner from a separate report than to post pictures in this thread.
  5. Ages ago I used a 1000 Strafic FJ for pretty much everything. Big carp to 5kg, schoolies although small but to 55cm, all my bream, yfw, trout, etc. It always felt nice and light in hand matched to a 1-3kg rod. I have moved up in gear quality since to a Daiwa 2004 Caldia and the normal reason why people suggest a 2500 size reel is because of the extra line capacity/drag. Most customers I sell light gear to always pick out a 2500 reel to cover all bases. 1000 tests your angler ability when you do hook a bigger fish but that's all part of the fun.
  6. As with every competition Strike & Hook runs, a detailed report is required to win the monthly prize. A picture here or there in a single thread alone isnt what we are after, we want lots of people sharing their adventures in some adventure Whether you caught fish or not, what tips you could give to novice, a few pictures as well. The aim of these comps is to get people out fishing and make the forum tick over with reports full of information to fill the site with more knowledge Also we are very thankful for Weavers generosity, a session aboard his boat is not one to missed given his
  7. Channel 7 might be taking their tides from another location such as west beach or even north haven. That would explain why the time is 11 minutes later as the water pushes up the gulf. But yes I normally stick to the BOM for the weather and tides, etc
  8. Nice job Weavs, great video
  9. Decided to try and make a camera mount to put on my yak for when I want to take photos and videos whilst I'm fishing. With a very limited budget and limited tools I was able to make up a simple and easy mount that slot's into one of my four flush mounted rod holders. This means that I can alter the angle that I want to shoot at. First off I had to buy my mount pole which was simple enough, any pole type structure will do such as a PVC pipe. I bought a cheap prawning light that was plastic and the head of the pole was to be used as the ideal mounting point. Second thing to buy was a pool no
  10. Hi Cal, I find that style A is best for getting a secure hookup. C can result in more snags than the others, B is good if you are fishing snagging waters as the hooks will get less snagged.
  11. I work in a fishing and outdoor store in Richmond. The fishquest combo is an alright combo but the tip is too whippy for what you are after. Here's one combo that's decent and will cover all round options. http://m.bcf.com.au/Product/Daiwa-D-Shock-Spin-Combos-6-2-6kg-2-Piece/321032?isvariant=true
  12. There's plenty of good quality graphite rods that aren't too expensive in the right sort of specs that you're after. Look up the Wilson LCS range of rods, they're not too expensive. Or you can pick up cheap Shimano combos for around $59-79 depending where you go. We sell a lot of them to people who want a graphite combo that won't break the bank. You're probably looking for a 7fter, 2-4kg or lighter if you're going to chase yfw or just a general purpose combo for the beach, jetty, estuary, freshwater, etc. Full graphite rods won't flex as much as their fibreglass equal and offer more sensitiv
  13. I threw out some bread on the top first and they were eating every piece of it. You could chuck out the fly on spin gear or you could put a hook though a piece of bread as well and make it float on the top
  14. Get keen for this weekend; river is firing up lately with a few legal mullies in between the undersized ones. Should be a good comp; I won't make it due to cricket commitments but good luck to the guys having a go.
  15. Killer stuff Underpants! That link to the previous thread certainly got me hungry.
  16. Managed to finally get a carp off the surface this arvo. Took one of the bread flies and gave me a nice fight. Harder to fight a carp on fly gear but so much fun all the same.
  17. Hi all, With uni and working two jobs, fishing time has been very limited but I managed to get out for a quick fish after work today. Took the fly rod down to the Torrens along with a light spin rod and a bag of bread for backup. I drove for a while along the river and just picked a random spot for a look. Well I found a really shallow bit stacked with lots of good sized carp! Perfect fly casting territory. In the 90 minutes I fished, I landed three good carp, two on fly and one on bread. Sizes ranged from 3.62 to 4.85kg. Heaviest fish was taken on bread on the bottom but the ones on fly we
  18. I was considering putting up a floating tub thread with my own ideas. Be good to get this section of the forum flooded with new threads. I also considered making my own hard bodies for the fun of it.
  19. Quick Alex and James put your patent mark on it - you'll make thousands Best one I've seen was a full on setup with rod holders, crab rake holder, crab nets, esky in built, wheels; the whole nine yards. Easiest one is just a plastic tub with two pool noodles on the bottom and sides. Interesting that many local tackle stores don't have ready made ones?
  20. Cracking effort young lads! I nearly found my way up there a few weeks back but unfortunately work got in the way Now you're making me jealous. We've been having a lot of customers coming in wanting to make some of those floating tubs, James' tub looks like a real winner, just needs wheels somewhere and it'd be perfect.
  21. I've only caught them to 70 but got spooled by a near metre when it took my tiny plastic on bream gear. I would not be surprised if there were bigger fish out there. Have only fished it land based and once in the yak when it was wrong time of year. This summer I hope they turn up bigger.
  22. I cast my popper around the Old jetty last month and it was crystal clear but they weren't around to chase it. It splits a lot of water for such a medium range popper. Once fish start to show, I'd imagine they'd be interested given its 'snack' sized profile. That stick bait lure would be great for surf salmon down Yorkes or west coast. Probably an okay lure to cast at rats as well. The Molix squid jags have been selling well recently so people must be doing well on the squid.
  23. I have two FJs, a 1000 and 5000. I've thrashed the 1000 and it still goes alright. The 5000 I haven't tested fully except for five land based rat kings. I'd love an FK now though.
