  1. Although I don't really have any brand preferences when it comes to metal lures for the surf, my more favoured lures tuned to be Maria Mucho Lucirs for their casting distance and profile. They aren't that expensive either depending on where you go. I also like the ones with the secondary assist hooks. The only trouble I have with them is the split rings and trebles leave a little to be desired. Another of my more favoured lures is the humble Halco twisty, cheap, easy to cast, relatively good hardware. Another lure that I like but haven't used a lot is the Williamson Gyro Jigs. I like ho
  2. For lure flicking I run a Daiwa Aird 4000 with 20lb braid on the original version of the Shimano Shorespin 9ft 5-10kg. For baiting I use a Penn Prevail 8-12kg 12ft with either the Aird or a Shimano Stradic FJ 5000 with 30lb. If I had a Wishlist for a salmon setup it would be one of daiwas higher end surf rods matched to a decent quality reel with a high speed retrieve ratio of 5.8 above. And run braid as well.
  3. Hi Doobie, yes we are having a Comp for July and August as well respectively. I'd suggest instead of putting the post in here you can create a new topic in the Site Competitions section
  4. Awesome work Jimbo! Nice fish and footage, definitely a great birthday present there!
  5. You can use the 1-3kg combo of you're fishing for shallow water whiting. If you are wanting something a bit heavier then perhaps look at a Daiwa Saltist 10kg, a G Loomis GL2 10-20lb or as mentioned a Gomuku red.
  6. Might have to hit you up for a couple for product testing Bjorn I love the look of the silver glitter ones. Great looking salmon, mullie, flathead and kingie plastic!
  7. Yep I've seen a few social media posts from Waits today. A few people were surfing and noted heaps of fish in the breakers. No surprise fishos were cleaning up at all times of the day today. Wishing I didn't work weekends or I'd be there ahahah
  8. As it says in the report, within a few hours of metro Adelaide. They have moved from this area and headed north up to Port Augusta at this time of year.
  9. NS Ones are wicked rods, love the feeling of it loaded up! Also think there's a few high quality bream rods for sale on here as well. Think there's a Millerod that's a bargain and a few others.
  10. The comp is to find an actual picture/photo logo of strike and hook. They have been inserted into previous posts through the site on threads from 2011-2014. All posts chosen were of great interest to the Strike and Hook community.
  11. I did keep this one being my first to try and see what it was like. I bled it, gut and gilled before leaving and had it in an ice slurry all the way home. I actually thought it tasted really nice when we cooked it up. Had two servings, one fillet was cut down to smaller fillets and shallow fried in breadcrumbs, and the other was beer battered with lemon pepper seasoning.
  12. If you continually pull it away from them they get pissed off and it flips the switch into feeding mode most of the time.

    New gear

Good to hear mate, hope to see success in future reports

    New gear

Sounds like a great combo Tri! What sort of fish are you intending on using it on?
  15. Would've been a similar size but was a way better fight on the bream gear. Wish I landed it too as it would've been epic
  16. I've been called worse Keeno, so I'll take that as half a compliment ahahah
  17. If you speed it up and do it repeatedly it can switch them on by pissing them off that their prey is getting away. I didn't realise that either but talking to some divers and boats from the area said the water temp was higher than this time last year by a few degrees. But after all this cold wintery weather we've just had they may have disappeared.
  18. It would be an awesome sight to see them metro on a regular occurrence. I mean the Port sometimes gets them in there and you do hear rumours of fish from Hallett Cove, O'Sullies area as well. Just wish they were going around in schools like snapper and so on do during the year. I tried a Roosta Popper for a few casts and had a few casual follows but they weren't going hard at it, just cruising. Fast worked plastics and strip baits would work well also.
  19. Yeah, I saw the hookup and it fought like a bigger fish than it's weight that's for sure.
  20. I wouldn't have gone unless a certain someone gave me the goss As you could've heard by my voice on the phone, was pretty ecstatic.
  21. So I’ve heard many stories of people finding rat kings within a couple of hours from metro in the last six months and never had any thought of chasing them due to not owning the correct gear. However, one close fisho friend of mine gave me some sound info a fortnight ago and gave me motivation to have a go at a landbased king. Not having ever seen one in the wild (plenty in aquaculture) and never having caught one, I went out chasing. Day began at 5am, left home early and drove up to an area that had frequent sightings of rat sized kings. Armed with a few combos and a couple of not-so-fr
  22. Do you use bread flies or buggers or something? My only Carp was on a bugger from the Torrens.
  23. That's awesome action! Such immediate takes after casting is impressive. I've never fished for carp out of my yak as I don't want them laying in the back kicking around. Do you just catch them and dispose of them on the nearest bank?
  24. Well I had a spin at Aldinga/Sellicks and all I got was seaweed every cast. At least I got to test out new waders. Stopped off in a creek for reddies and managed one small fish on a hardbody.
