This is completely normal, both Tiagra and Inters ratchet works on a pin moving in and out of holes on a plate mounted to the inside of the spool. You'll find when it's stuck or seized as you described the pin is directly in the hole and when it's easy to pull out it's sitting between 2 and easily moves in and out at speeds. Hope this helps. I've found that most people use higher ratio reels for high speed spinning and poppering. Lower ratio reels for jigging and bottom work... Id go a lower ratio reel... S-Extreme, Expedition etc

You should get 700-800 of 50, really depends on the line diameter, how much you fill it and how tight its wound in.

Can't go past the saltiga surf, excellent reel. I use it down salt creek, fwc, YP beaches. It's caught some big mullies, sharks and rays on it. Casts a mile matched to the ballistic or sensor. It holds around 600 of 50. Best out of the reels you have mentioned
