  1. Slightly off topic, and I know it's been discussed before, but is there a definitive answer on whether garden worms are effective in salt water fishing?

    Cockles

I used some of these recently and they were pretty soft and mushy. Hard to keep on the hook. Didn't seem to appeal to the fish so much either, but that may have just been the day.
  3. Best thing you can safely do is get straight onto the SA Fishing app and submit a report. Worth having on your phone for size limit info etc anyway and you can do reports within the app. You can do this silently, without obviously calling it in. Otherwise, ring Fishwatch on 1800 065 522 and report it. Save the number in your phone. If they have officers nearby, they'll send them around. At the very least, they'll know when and where it's happening and you'd hope would increase patrols accordingly.

    Cockles

Not surprising, given the outrageous price of cockles these days.
  5. I crumb mine in panko crumbs and shallow fry, but some good alternatives here that I'll give a go. As for bones, I find most gar bones tend to cook out anyway. In fact, I can't recall ever getting a bone in gar.
  6. It's further confirmation that while individual humans are probably the smartest creatures ever to exist, groups of humans are as dumb as a box of hammers.
  7. Unfortunately, about 30 years ago we started paying ferals to breed. Not surprisingly, they did. This is just one of the many, many undesirable consequences.
  8. Unless you are prepared to confront people on the spot, the only real action to take is to call Fishwatch. No idea how or how quickly they respond, but at the end of the day it's their job to manage it. I guess there's records kept of numbers of calls to them etc, and if there's not enough officers, it will show up in their responses.
  9. Yep, hard to imagine a store owner putting out a report of "nothing much caught here this week" when their whole business relies on people buying stuff from them to catch fish! Of course they embellish.
  10. I was kinda wondering if there'd be a few less boats at the marina than usual on a Saturday. I don't usually go out on weekends, but maybe this time. Or just save it 'till Monday.
  11. So with some really nice weather and conditions coming up over the weekend, the burning question is - watch the Grand Final, or take the boat out? Must admit, I'm struggling a bit!

    Freezing Crab

Yeah, I know, but nobody home to eat them at the moment. Well, except me, so maybe I'll just have to step up! Cheers.
  13. Hi all, Just after some tips on the best way to freeze blue swimmers? Raw? Cooked? In shell? etc. Any thoughts? Mal
  14. And yet they can broadcast a moron killing people in NZ live, and that's not a problem.
  15. You should have taken it straight back to BCF. As the retailer, it is actually their responsibility under the consumer law. They are not allowed to pass the buck back to the manufacturer (and to be fair to BCF, they may well not have, I don't know). Tough lesson learned by the look of it though. And interesting to hear about the shoddy service from such a big company. Not good enough from them. Thanks for that.

    Chopper reels

Shore based fishing. Salmon, mullet etc.
  17. Anybody know anything about Chopper reels? They look pretty good for the money, but would love some first hand knowledge before I shell out for one.
  18. The other thing about it is that in South Australia, the prevailing winds are southerly, so nearly always onshore. Might work some days, or in some places but a bit inconsistant.

    Yabbies

Yeah thanks Cal. They really ought to do well in the lakes. Always did well up in Menindee Lakes and Bancannia. May take a while, but it'll be interesting to see if they might come good in the lower lakes now the water has improved.

    Yabbies

Hi all. Anyone know if there's yabbies to be had in the Lower Lakes around Goolwa, or do I need to be further up river. Was thinking of having a crack at Goolwa or maybe Milang. Or would I be better off up at Wellington or Murray Bridge or somewhere. Any thoughts?
