G'day afishyfish,No offence taken at all mate. The midge pupae(mozzie relative) is tied on a sz16 hook so it's pretty small I also tie them on sz18's.You can fish this fly as a single or in a train of 2 or 3 flies which is what I normally do, a weighted point fly(nymph or wooly bugger) then two of these guys on droppers with a figure of 8 retrieve deadly on trout in the lakes around here when the water starts to warm Cheers1Fish

I have been tying a few flies of late and thought I would share a few cheap and easy ones with you folks out there. The first fly is a Midge Pupae it is made up of red thread, black thread a small piece of holographic tinsel(which could be substituted with plain silver Xmas tinsel) and clear nail polish.The next couple are damsel/bugger type patterns which are literally a hook marabou and some fine wire. I haven't fished for bones yet unfortunately maybe one day after I catch my holy grail fish on fly the Giant Tarpon. I was going to say another must have fly is a yellow and white clouser (bit of a confidence fly for me) . Might put some piccies up of my boxes in the coming months Might 1Fish

Thanks for all the info Guy's some of it's probably a bit techo for my beginner brain . It's been a lot of trial and error and a lot of time on you tube I'm just starting out in the comp scene that's why I'm tying barbless and tying like a demon. We fish them down and across and nail plenty. I recently watched a video and they were fishing them up in front almost Euro nymph style and said you shouldn't fish them down and across? so totally confused now Once again thanks for all the info dude's 1Fish

Cheers guys Dazz I tend to agree with you in that having the hackle over the bead gives them a different posture in the drift and when they swing up at the end to give them that irresistible emerger look.I also agree with you tonyb that the bead goes up to the eye on a more tradition Pheasant tail. This guy is more of a down and swing emerger style fly. Have attached a pic of a Pheasant tail Czech nymph I tied a few days ago on a sz12 Knapek.(getting better with the Camera )On a side note going to start tying some flies on some Tiemco 2499 Spear points see how they go.Cheers 1fish

No laughing Dazz and others I'm still a beginner. Have been mucking about tying some beaded pheasant tail spiders. Hopefully the pics come out ok still trying to work out the camera. These flies are tied on sz16 Knapek barbless hooks. Very busy tying at the mo will try and start putting up more patterns as I go , no top secret ones though :whistle: :whistle: .Cheers1fish

It's a good way to trigger that reflex bite when loch style fishing.

G'day Keen as,Rolley poley is shoving the rod under you arm and retrieving the line with both hands.It's a great way to excited pelagic's and speedsters in the salt as well as and triggering reluctant trout to strike in lakes and dams. It imparts a constant motion on the fly instead of the usual stop start jerky retrieve you get with normal stripping.You can also achieve constant motion with a figure of eight retrieve as well but this is a bit more finessey and slower.Hope this helpsCheers1fish
