  4. As I drove over the Birkenhead Bridge this morning I thought gee the water looks very still .So upon reaching West Lakes I realised there was slightly more wind but not to much .Somehow managing to get in the water at 6.45am again like last session .I was off with great amounts of small bream following my fly I thought yes I could get in amongst the fish today .Firstly I tried a totally Barbie Pink fly .Other than the tiny Bream following my fly nothing .So I thought lets try old faithful a bright green fly this was around 7.45am.At 8am I was totally getting disheartened .When out of no where
  5. All I will say is Trout sound Easy Bream seem to be getting harder .
  6. I'm the wrong guy to ask MarsONE i just chase Bream salmon etc.But be warned it could be costly
  7. Good on ya Rodger I'll keep wading while I can mate .14 years so far on hard concrete is doing nothing for my knees. And the thought of a Mulloway or Salmon is to strong a call to resist. And I'll keep posting as long as i can mate
  8. Only saw the one big bream and I am pretty sure we both scared each other. ;DBut they must have been out deeper going by the one jumping fish .I would prefer the entire school jump ;DWater was very dirty IMHO but there was lots more sea grass than last year .Made walking that little bit difficult.Saw lots of different small fish Bream Flatties Gar looks good for the future .
  9. So after having a sick day Thursday due to my arthritis but feeling a 110% Friday .I was walking around work Friday thinking it was my day for destiny at the lake today.I started wading the Lake at 6.45am and the first fly I tried was the red headed rubber band fly.My first spot was not proving very fruitful and a move was in order .And as I started to wind in my line horror of horrors my fly reel came off the rod and fell in the drink. Not a good omen but a sign of things to come.Getting everything back in order and under way again .I had decided to give this fly a good work out .But other t
  10. My problem with the rain is I need to wade out in the water to get my flies out to the Bream etc. No way will I walk out straight after large amounts of rain :thumb:.If I could fish like the lure guys from the bank I would have .Well yes I can but its never far enough out, well mostly not far enough .When the footy is not on and the weather is nice and warm (sometimes when its 4C :icon_eek:)I can be found walking from Beach to Beach at West Lakes hunting Bream etc.I needed to take pictures of my catches to prove I was really fishing to the umm ahhh wife ;D :fishing:cheersSay g'day when you see
  11. I borrowed my daughters camera and took a few snaps of the fly I tied Monday night TOP VIEW UNDERNEATHSide View showing the eye
  12. I decided it was time while the rain had stopped but the wind was blowing strong .To start tying some more Rubber Band Flies .I have had success with Green so I tied 1 green 1 yellow and 1 pink.I am not 100% convinced its the Green colour that attracts the fish but could have something to do with the diamond like eyes.I did take some pictures but my old 2mg camera's battery died .I did manage to get this picture and everyone should be pleased I didn't swear once.It doesn't show the eyes very well .
  13. ranger that is my now waiting to be repaired $450 reel which I broke :thumb:But i think you are spot on the mark re ST if they are hungry the whole school will go on the attack at anything that moves .I watched a school of very tiny bait fish get nailed in West lakes earlier this year in ankle deep water .And I swear the St's that spat my fly were 2 inches long if that !!
  14. Well she was asleep when I left and doesn't have a problem with me going fishing .But there are some things that you have to do .
  15. That was the plan Ranger but my darling wife had other evil plans for me :icon_lol:
  16. Well after deciding to stay home Saturday,I was champing at the bit to get down and catch a fish.So I arrived at the water just before 7.30 am .And before I left home, I had thought it was less windy than Saturday. How wrong I was. With at times an almost howling gale coming over my right shoulder I started casting.i had decided to use a fly i had ties earlier in the year and yet to land a fish on.the bright pink fly seemed to work at first. With large amounts of tiny bream chasing it.But after moving spots a few times I was snagged .And this snag started on my left hand side in front of me. Fly Fishing

quote author=tonyb link=topic=2790.msg25490#msg25490 date=1227775822] Heaps interested in your musings MJ,thinking back on my own 40+ years of on/off Fly Fishing I found it impossible to pin down a single part which kept me enthralled by it all :-\I reckon it's the whole experience. Being outdoors, sometimes in truly spectacular surroundings, being at one with the natural world, enjoying mans most primeval urge, to hunt!! The thrill of catching a wild animal in its own element where everything favours its native cunning developed from it's ancestors. The many pleasant hours working over the F
  18. I have seen an old Italian or Greek guy at the other end of the lake do it .And yes I chucked a fly in and got 1 before they wised up.Have watched a young guy catch a few big bream on dough in the same area .Just be warned at weekends I have found the south end to be full of skull boats .and the other end is full of all the other boats.
  19. every time i have met Brentonn hes cleaning up on Bream and St's .watch out youngsters .just say hi when you go past the fly guy
  20. these younger fishers are funny hey sambo man
  21. Off topic but in answer to your post .I am not sure how you fish .But I have watched many lure guys from here and other sites clean up in the public access areas. And i get the odd Bream and ST myself on the flyBUTits to do with persevering and to keep plugging away .It takes hours and hours some days and others you can get a fish on your first cast .You really don't need to fish near peoples homes/pontoons .Many fish when the weather is warm enough can be taken not far from the shore in and around seaweed beds . Of course not all will be legal length and that leads onto the other topic of un
  22. Good on the eastern states perhaps the same here. With the addition of people who are of the same ethnic mix being employed by the fisheries .Just make the employees male as many males will never do what a womn says
  23. I agree 100% and no-one liked it much when I voiced this opinion awhile back, when I suggested it's time to start taking steps to improve relationships between council, ratepayers and fishers at West Lakes before it's too late!As far as I'm now concerned, do as ya like out there! If ya wanna abuse landowners and stand up to them, then go ahead and abuse em, even if you're in the right and they're in the wrong! At the end of the day though, when disputes start and the council becomes involved, just remember, the rate payers there who PAY the council will get the support from the council. That's
