Will be a trophy fish fishery if my sources are correct  can't wait for this to open up. Living only 5mins away makes it an awesome place to kill some time after work!

This trip was back on the 7th March 2021, it's to a long stretch of fast/medium flowing water on the upper Mersey River in the Mole Creek area above the Union Bridge. I was told by several trout fishers that there weren't any trout to be seen in the area and that they had wasted their time fishing there. For me that was a challenge, surely there had to be a few trout in this stretch of river. I knew the trout had dropped off after the 2016 record floods and the influx of cormorants didn't help either, there should be some trout back in the area by now. This long stretch of water is wide open which makes the trout easy prey for cormorants, anyway I gave it a go...
    cheers

Best thing to see when it happens so rarely.

When I was a little fella living at Barmera I remember seeing big carp jumping out of the water about sunset.

I know now that big carp will eat the smallest insect.

Works for fly fishing but when bait fishing I still believe big worms will catch the biggest fish.

    Love my scrubworms.

Scrub worms were one of my favorites back in my day for fishing in Sth Aust too, used to dig them up near Gumeracha on the Gorge Road, we actually used to call them Hill worms back them, very big worms they were too 8 to 10 inches long...
Worms are great down here early season when the rivers are running high (clear or dirty) & cold, Wattle grubs can be used all throughout the season & grasshoppers/crickets from January to the first or second week of April.

This was a day (19th March 2021) when I was lucky enough to be in the Mersey River when there was a massive Mayfly hatch, the trout were having a great time sipping them off the surface. This was the best hatch I've seen on this river since 2009 when I was lucky enough to see a monster Dun hatch in the stretch of river..(see photo)
The trout fishing was tough going due them feeding on the Mayflys.. Actually seeing what I did was the highlight of the day for sure, the trout I caught were a bonus..

Massive dun hatch, Mersey River. Weegena. (25-11-09)

Before you judge a crazy, you should run a mile with their tackle box. That way, when you judge them, you're a mile away and you have their tackle box.

It's certainly changed along the upper reaches of the Torrens River with so much of it being off limits which is a shame..
I'm sure your mates would be happy to let you put some fingerlings in their dams..
    cheers

We will keep safe Adrian - safe inside, unlike crazy Tinker
I don't mind the rain either, it's the wind that messes everything up - hate the wind, wish that guy upstairs could cancel it out
From the Southport surfcam - 1 hour before the 9.30am (.99m) low tide.  High tide at 4.04pm today at 2.41m.
Normally you would see a lot of the river bank at low tide, so the water isn't being allowed to drain due to the seas pushing it back in lol
Currently the NW wind is blowing at about 32kph/17 knots (fresh) to the predicted 55kph/30 knots (gale) - weather forecasters

Got waders and waterproof clothes but the wind could be a problem.

Will be fishing low in the valley so hopefully it will only be heavy flow to worry about.

Rain doesn't bother me too much and apparently it is better for catching trout.

    Thanks for the warning mate.

Keen to see what this does for the creeks, streams and dams by Sunday.

All I can think about is trout.

Certainly doesn't look all that good.. depends on how much rain comes with it for the rivers/streams etc, the wind is going to be the main problem.. massive high tides too.. stay safe guys..
    cheers

Torrens River will be flowing hard after the heavy rainfall predicted over the next few days.

Checking out the spots above Kangaroo Creek Reservoir you recommended but I think SA Water has claimed them and they are now off limits.

Looking at Mt Pleasant at the source of the Torrens downstream on Google Earth but everything above Gumeracha Weir is off limits.

Thinking of buying some trout fingerlings and stocking some dams if my mates let me.

Good place to live up here in One Tree Hill but we get nervous in bushfire season after the Sampson Flat fire a few years ago.

The crazies, and I mean the real no hope in hell crazies, will be on the Pt Noarlunga jetty for the Salmon.
But I wouldn't be surprised if the jetty, amongst others, will be closed by council.
    ps: I'm not a crazy 😂

Just came across this weather warning for SA an hour ago.. doesn't look all that good ..   Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds and abnormally high tides for people in Adelaide, Mount Lofty Ranges, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Mid North, Kangaroo Island and parts of West Coast and Murraylands districts. BoM: "A deep low pressure system centred south of the Bight will move eastwards to be near Kangaroo Island on Thursday morning and over western Victoria later in the evening. Strong to damaging northwest to westerly winds, averaging 50-65 km/h with gusts of 90-100 km/h, are likely to develop about western Eyre Peninsula later this afternoon, extending across the warning area overnight. Localised damaging wind gusts in excess of 90 km/h may occur about coastal areas and with showers and thunderstorms. Locations which may be affected include Adelaide, Port Lincoln, Whyalla, Cleve, Goolwa, Maitland, Murray Bridge and Kingscote. These conditions will cause sea levels to be significantly higher than indicated on tide tables on Thursday. Sea levels along parts of Spencer Gulf and Gulf St Vincent coastlines are likely to be at least half a metre higher than the highest astronomical tide of the year. At the Outer Harbor tide gauge, the sea level is forecast to reach around 3.5 to 3.8 metres mid to late afternoon on Thursday. This may cause sea water flooding of low lying areas and localised beach erosion. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move vehicles under cover or away from trees; * Secure or put away loose items around your property. * Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water; * Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe." How is it looking in your suburb? Send 7NEWS Adelaide your weather videos: m.me/7NEWS Adelaide #7NEWS   Cheers  Adrian

Apparently Clousers and Deceivers are the go for this trip, possibly surf candy, or so I am informed by those much more knowledgeable
I'll be happy if I can cast into the zone.

One of my mates was telling me today how he caught salmon at St Kilda on a sinking fly cast in the middle of the school.

Got me thinking about trying it myself in a few weeks when they really get hungry.

Long walk out for them at St Kilda. And I have best results with little Spanyid Raiders and weedless soft plastic minnows so would most likely stick with those.

But keen to get one on fly also.
