All the top bream comp guys in Australia use pro cure, so not sure how you come to that conclusion.

Here's a recipe for pickled squid that i use for pickling all the left over bits such as the flaps and tentacles. Its easy as but the squid takes a little bit of preparation before you start.First up i like to freeze the squid so you can pickle it when you want and also it breaks up the structure of the squid to make it more tender. Then i like to peel the skin off the flaps and chop up the tentacles(even the bit behind the head is tasty). Now to make up the brew here's what you need
    white vinegar 1 litre
    lemon juice a decent splash
    crushed garlic 1 teaspoon
    chilli 1 teaspoon
1 bottle of praise italian dressing
    black pepper
    mixed italian herbs 1 teaspoon

now put all of it in a saucepan and bring to the boil and chuck in your first batch of squid bits and bring back to the boil for 1 minute and then remove the squid,if you have anymore chuck that in and do the same etc etc this adds flavour to the brew as well as blanching the squid.

now chop up the squid into bits

This is "important" you must let the pickling mixture cool right down or it will overcook your squid
when cool chuck the squid in jars and pour the mixture over the top put in the fridge and resist the temptation to sample your squid for 4 days then get stuck in,you can add more chilli or pepper etc but don't use salt or it will toughen your squid.......Enjoy

Dylbaa reacted to Territory Lad in Wading Tub
Over the last 12-18 months I've got right into my wading and thought I'd have a crack at making my own tub. After a bit of looking around at other set ups, I figured it was best to just dive in and see what happened.
The basic idea was I wanted to be able to carry more than one rod, be mobile amd be organised. After a trip to the hardware store and the local boating store, I had all the parts I needed. Within an afternoon it was done!

Generic UV stablised create, electrical conduit for axels, marker bouys / poly floats for wheels and all secured with S/Steel bolts, washers and nylocks.
Below is a selection of on the job photos.

Overall it works really well. The rod holders allow me to carry multiple rods all rigged differently. This does two things, (1) when I get a season ending wind knot, I just bench the rod and grab another. No lost time not fishing! (2) It speeds up my apprenticeship as I can run multiple options simultaneously and figure out what works in different scenarios.
Only issue I have found is having the reels face inwards takes up a fair amount of room inside the tub and ironically, the reels get wetter inside the tub than outside. This is because when I land a fish, drops of water fall off the net which I dump in the tub during hook removal etc. I tried facing them "backwards" and outside the tub, seems to solve the problem.
1st planned upgrade is a small esky, big enough to fit a YFW in the 30-35cm range!!

Looking back at this thread for a third time it's got me thinking, i might whack a few slabs off the side off the next few a get and give it a go in the surf,  i have no doubt it'll have gummies and bronzies keen, it'll be interesting to try out anyway.

+1 for this rod. Ian at SFS recommended this rod to me to take on a recent trip north. Matched it with a 3000 size daiwa reel running 30lb braid and it handled barra to 90cm. Threw everything from 3" weedless swimmerz and 20g soft vibes up to 120mm crystal minnows and B52's and casting for long periods wasn't a hassle. Would match up as well with a 2500 reel as Dylbaa mentioned. I'll be using it locally on the Kayak for squid etc. It would struggle flicking micro HB's, soft plastics or small poppers for bream and YFW, but anything heavier would be fine. Throw in a 4-8lb 7' spin rod with a 2000 reel and all bases covered!

Its still a mystery to me why reels have them in the first place in over 50 years of fishing I have never used the anti reverse switch on a spinning reel. To me its a useless addition to a reel that adds weight and serves no purpose. Im sure someone out there has an explanation for why we have them
    cheers

I like my leader to be well and truly on the spool when the fish is near the boat. Speeds up the capture I think. Minimum 2 rod lengths. As for lures, I like to wait till the fish are found and launch Adagio 125 heavies. Would rather catch one on a sticky than bag out on the troll.

Rugger snapper on the light gear too if all goes to plan.

My fishing plans for Xmas & New Year will be spent in the shop helping everyone else to go fishing and hopefully helping the holiday fishers catch a few fish, always rewarding when they come in the next day to thank you for helping them catch their first fish
