  1. Fair call I guess buddy.Personally,I'm always on the lookout for a bargain.........if the "name brand with the good reputation" is of a "throw away price" at the chain type stores,I will get them from there. You don't go to places like that for advice,as you correctly point out.Having said all that,I'd much rather spend a couple $$$ more at the local for the service and chat too
  2. Bad experience(s) there buddy?
  3. I had a look in the new Modbury store, and didn't really see anything I liked.........except for a couple of the sales assistant hotties The young girls like their ink these days :cheer:
  4. Basically,a simple way to relax, that you can make as complex as you like.Whether you want to laze an afternoon away on the river bank with a handline and a few beers,or go on a charter for 3 or 4 days chasing the big'uns..............it's all fishing. That's why I fish.............plus,I'm a crap golfer
  5. I bought a Wilson Live Fibre blank years ago at a bargain basement price......cant remember the model number, but was a 5 foot 6 inch stroker type, rated 24/37kg.Took it to Rob at South Oz Rods.......he went through the process of my intentions for the rods usage, my budget etc, then went through a list of quality materials he suggested would suit that blank......all in all,a very good process in my opinion.During the build,he would stay in touch with progress reports etc.Quality of finished product was fantastic, and would highly recommend him.He has serviced a few reels of mine over the years,a
  6. Tommies, salmon trout or mullet are all good..........squid too
  7. I use 30lb mono.Simple paternoster rig,I like 8/0 as they hold a good size tommie , mullet or salmon fillet well..........80lb trace.Just enough lead to get by.Livies can be hit or miss,so don't rely on them as your whole bait source.Take plenty of provisions......water and tarps etc for shade / shelter especially.Make sure vehicle is extremely reliable.Permit required. No alcohol.Use search facility
  8. I thought they looked good............
  9. Mine are sort of "low in tone" as well, but I put that down to just wear and tear.........either that or going deaf Doesn't affect the performance,so it doesn't bother me.You could get the schematics / part number online, and order them if it really bothers you that much???????
  10. Well done Nothing better than seeing the kids get their first fish.........and he seems to have got a few as well!as you rightly said, you now have a fishing buddy for life
  11. Hi all.Had a look at this range yesterday, and for about $100,seems like not a bad set of sticks.Anyone own any?
  12. If it were me,and price was no issue,I'd choose a fav spinning reel and a fav overhead..........then go speak with some reputable custom rod builders for their thoughts......and get them built!Other than that,I don't fish from a boat,so I cannot offer any more.Good luck in your pursuits of the "perfect combo"
  13. Thanks for posting that Moggy23.......that's a great knot to know.Cheers
  14. Never used a Bristol before, but looks to be a good one.For bimini twist,I finish off the same as Plankton........Geoff Wilson way os very good, but is really "fiddly" for me to tie anyway.Spider hitch is good too.....sure as hell beats tying a bimini or plait in the dark!
  15. I've always used Finn's.....never had an issue
