  1. Yeah, I've gone back to mono, or fluorocarbon formy chronarc baitcaster. Have problems with light baits with it using braid. It bites into itself too much I find. Causes too many miss casts. Much better now after changing back! I normally lick my thumb too if I'm trying to get good distance. Just abit smoother slowing the drum down! More of a novelty fishing bait casters landbased with bait I reckon! They do feel great for fighting fish! But can be more hassle than they're worth in crosswind! But definately superior drags for xul fishing. Pity they can cause more damage in backlash and bi
  2. Can't go wrong with 7ft +! I personally like fishing as light a sinker as possible. And line ... It's surprising though that my fav stick for the lightest line I use, is also my fav for medium tackle class! Sill sends a full pilchard further than the rest of my light, light medium sticks, and way more backbone!! Got an old raider myself (baitcaster) Plenty power! Just not forgiving enough for me on lighter line for carp barbs. (As they often get the line hooked around them) Get cut off far too often even on 6lb. The majorcraft is somehow softter, but even more stopping power than all my ot
  3. Looks fragile, but looks can be deceiving! Tip is thinner than a toothpick
  4. Can't get anything else with those specs for under $600. You can get them online for around $320. Best rod I've ever owned!! Micro guides, k guide first guide, no limit in its flex, super light, casts a mile, and I've had it fully loaded and broke 8lb leeder with it on a snag, no problem. So it's got unbelievable stopping power, casts baits or lures even under a gram, hassle and tangle free with the micro guides and soft enough to fish 1-2lb, but strong enough, like I said, to break 8lb, fully loaded up. I christened it on a 7kg carp on 4lb, that didn't even pull an inch of line off the
  5. major craft ajing xride!
  6. Yeah, I also use very low pressure, and always from directly above the reel! Or you get grit going in under the spool. And you right, always best to back the drag right off after.
  7. But for sheer looks and bling factor... I'd love one of these old models still to hang on to! And if money was no object...
  8. Old and new. The caldia was a very lucky eBay buy... Don't often get one that cheap, even for second hand... Immaculate!
  9. Correction... Shimano technium I have... Not symetre...
  10. I rate daiwa for the salt! ESP the newer ones with mag seal grease (magnetic grease) They are pricey, but IMO, well worth it! My old luvias had the mag seal, but my 2 sols didn't, and they were really worn till I recently replaced them! But still put in a great innings after lasting me a good 14 years! My luvias was the same age, and never serviced, but was still smooth as silk, and dead quiet! Pity I stood on it! Very happy with my new luvias and my caldia!! Jap model daiwa's are the best IMO... Come with all the high performance bearings and long cast spools. The new luvias has
  11. That's just the one I weighed that I know for sure how big it was... I've just been recording lengths of all the similar sized fish. Is that ANSA records? It's hard claiming weight records with no witnesses and going off video. Think I'll have to do some research myself and have a crack at setting a new 1 myself sometime soon
  12. Not sure the official breaking strain for 1lb fire line... If it's 2, I would have beaten it by about 7 kgs... So ... That's double the weight of the existing record... Wow
  13. Wow, I should look at that too.... If so, I think I've smashed it quite a few times now! Really should join a club!!
  14. well done Jimbo! good luck with the 20lb mudmarlin on 2lb too!
  15. Yeah, mine is 7ft 6. Much better for distance!
  16. Landed that carp on 1lb fire line. And was putting some real pressure on the spool too! Casts a mile too! And definately a fan of the micro guides!! Much less miss casts and tangles
  17. Lol, didn't see this post... Yeah, covered the reel, I think the rods you're looking at are the AGS models. Air. Guide. System. It won ICAST awards, apparently improves casting distance by 30%... But after asking the guys in the know, they don't, and that's pretty much what makes them worth that extra 300-400$ They are much lighter, might create less friction... But it's all in the curve that makes them cast further Ive been told. Basically (from what was explained to me) is it has two different curves. That is to say, the way the rod flexes is different for a cast than for loaded up
  18. I personally wouldn't fish with a 500, 1000 and even some 1500's Micky... The main reason being line twist, which Leeds to air knots. The smaller you're spool, the more line twist and air knots as a result you will get! Also, seriously reduces you're casting distance having a smaller spool! (There are some exceptions with the tall skinny distance spools) But then you still have the first issue. I find a 2000 is just right! Even 2500... Depending on how much you want to spend in regards to how light the bigger 2500 is. If you have the money, I believe some daiwa's like the certate can c
  19. A few catties from the Torrens in the last month. 1 from another stretch, completely different colour to the ones closer to home!! All on bait, while fishing for carp.... Bread, earthworms... And a couple on yabbie tail. They're good sport on the 1lb gear! But do seem to burn themselves out after the first big run. There's definately no shortage of them around the city!! Think my best this month was 5 in an hour. Might have to try a lure or two some time for them!
  20. Yeah, split shots are the go! Not much else can solve that one, besides casting in an arc, and gradually applying pressure
