The weather continues to hamper a lot of anglers efforts, hopefully there will be a bit less wind over the next few weeks and more anglers can get out and find some good fish for the Easter holidays. Now for what was biting and where Elliston / Sheringa The Elliston jetty has had decent catches of good sized Tommies. Salmon anglers are reporting most fish caught are averaging between 2-4 kilograms and caught from various locations along the coast. Almonta / Gunyah Beach No schools had been reported sighted, however anglers were catching fish ranging from 1-3 kilograms on pilchar -

Both photos this week are of yellowtail kingfish. In the past few months there has been an increase in sightings and numbers caught at various spots around the Peninsula. Places like Tumby Bay jetty and marina, the Lincoln Marina, Main Wharf and Proper Bay to name a few have had Kingies from undersize to one over 20kg that we heard of. Rick Elliot is pictured with a genuine 19kg Mulloway he caught recently from an undisclosed location on the Eyre Peninsula. Also we have Aiden(13yrs) & Paige Barcak (7yrs) who were visiting their grandparents Grumpy & Maxine Gotch. While the crabs are around in good numbers, please remember to check them for legal size and only keep what you need. Elliston / Sheringa The Elliston jetty has had good catch rates of tommies and a few garfish, biting mostly on gents. Squid are also going well from the jetty, with best results using a quality jig accompanied by a pin jig or teaser line. Boaties heading out offshore chasing Snapper and Nannygai are doing well if using burley to attract fish. As for Salmon in the area; best results are coming from Sheringa with some decent fish being caught. The bigger Salmon are tending to be lone odd fish, with most of the schools within casting range being smaller 2kg fish. Locks Well is still hard to -
BURLEY IS ESSENTIAL Burley has been essential these past couple of weeks with many anglers heavily relying on it to find fish. Both boaties and land based anglers are finding that many species of fish are in scarce numbers during times of feeding unless burley is being presented. One thing to stress however, don’t use too much! Using too much burley can give your target species a good feed causing them to loose interest in your bait, as well as attracting unwanted by catch species in the area. We have had a few reports of good sized Snapper coming in since the ban was lifted on Monday. Please remember to check for other closures before you head out, as there are still some areas closed for Snapper until Jan 30th. Lots of anglers are gearing up for the Snapper ban which ends at 12noon on the 15th. Many of us are looking forward to heading out and landing a few big fish. I am hoping to get my first SA Snapper for Christmas. In the pictures, we have Ash Smith (not on a boat for a change) with a very nice Mulloway and Kate Peglidis with a nice Tuna. Here is Ari Ralph with a 68cm Flathead he caught near Sir Isaac’s. Very nice catch Ari. We also have Joanna Molloy with a nice Salmon caught at Gunyah on Sunday. Joanna said that she bled the Salmon straight away and it was beautiful on the plate that night. Blake Peak caught this Snook at Thistle Island that was weighed at 3Kg. Jackson Smith was lucky enough to get a double header of a 43 and 49cm King George Whiting out at Thistle as well. Good work Jackson. Ash Smith of Arno Bay Fishing Adventures has found some nice Tuna on his last few charters. Peter “Sharky†Sharland was relaxing with a drink out the front of his house in the Tumby Bay Marina. Using squid for bait on a whiting rig he hooked and landed this 84cm mulloway. The Australian Salmon Fishing Championship The Australian Salmon Fishing Championship finished at the end of august. The heaviest salmon for August and also the heaviest for the entire comp was a 5.485kg fish caught by Robert Hannford of Whyalla. Second was 5.280kg caught by Clint Kassebaum of Pt Lincoln. Third was 4.710kg caught by Dale Jackson of Victor Harbour. All were caught from Talia Beach.
