  2. The first photo is of some Port Lincoln Anglers Club members who fished in the PIRTEK challenge a couple of weeks ago. The Port Lincoln guys did well getting a couple of division wins, a second and a third. Back left to right is Wayne Paterson, Heath Ellis, Tim Doyle, in the front is Riley Peters. The second photo is Slugga Peak, who landed this Sampson fish South of Williams Island. It took 20 mins to land and took 2 to lift it in the boat. Good effort. Now for what was biting and where Elliston / Sheringa The Elliston jetty has had reports of Tommies, Garfish,
  3. Pictured is Jeff Wright with his 1st ever blue crab which measured 73cm caught in Port Lincoln recently. Also with his first ever Blue Swimmer is Macky Craig 6 yrs old with one that measured 72.5 cm across the claw span. Now for what was biting and where Elliston / Sheringa We are still hearing the odd report about schools of big Salmon in close to Sheringa’s beaches. In Elliston, most Salmon caught are averaging between 2-3 kilograms. Try the jetty for Tommies and Squid during the day and night. Garfish are being caught from some of the shel
  4. The weather continues to hamper a lot of anglers efforts, hopefully there will be a bit less wind over the next few weeks and more anglers can get out and find some good fish for the Easter holidays. Now for what was biting and where Elliston / Sheringa The Elliston jetty has had decent catches of good sized Tommies. Salmon anglers are reporting most fish caught are averaging between 2-4 kilograms and caught from various locations along the coast. Almonta / Gunyah Beach No schools had been reported sighted, however anglers were catching fish ranging from 1-3 kilograms on pilchar

  10. Here is this week's fishing report. Remember, if you have any photo's of that prized catch, just sent them to portlincoln@spotonfishing.com.au with a brief comment. Both photos this week are of yellowtail kingfish. In the past few months there has been an increase in sightings and numbers caught at various spots around the Peninsula. Places like Tumby Bay jetty and marina, the Lincoln Marina, Main Wharf and Proper Bay to name a few have had Kingies from undersize to one over 20kg that we heard of. Almonta / Gunyah Beach The onshore winds have made avoiding the weed diffi
  12. Pictured is Jimmy McKelvey with a 78cm Blue Swimmer Crab caught locally and Steve Forstner with my first ever Bluefin Tuna. It was only a small one, but it leaves me plenty of room to improve. While the crabs are around in good numbers, please remember to check them for legal size and only keep what you need. Now for what was biting and where Elliston / Sheringa Quite a few good sized salmon have been coming from the beaches. A few sizable schools have been sighted just within casting range. Tommies and Squid tend to be the main catch from the Elliston jetty. Sheringa’s beaches have
  13. Elliston / Sheringa The Elliston jetty has had good catch rates of tommies and a few garfish, biting mostly on gents. Squid are also going well from the jetty, with best results using a quality jig accompanied by a pin jig or teaser line. Boaties heading out offshore chasing Snapper and Nannygai are doing well if using burley to attract fish. As for Salmon in the area; best results are coming from Sheringa with some decent fish being caught. The bigger Salmon are tending to be lone odd fish, with most of the schools within casting range being smaller 2kg fish. Locks Well is still hard to
  14. BURLEY IS ESSENTIAL Burley has been essential these past couple of weeks with many anglers heavily relying on it to find fish. Both boaties and land based anglers are finding that many species of fish are in scarce numbers during times of feeding unless burley is being presented. One thing to stress however, don’t use too much! Using too much burley can give your target species a good feed causing them to loose interest in your bait, as well as attracting unwanted by catch species in the area. The common species needing burley recently were King George Whiting, mostly crushed shellfish or a
  15. This weeks pictures are of Leona Urban who caught her first ever Bluefin Tuna recently and with a Thistle Island King George Whiting measuring 57cm is Mitch Peak. 2 very nice catches indeed. We have had a few reports of good sized Snapper coming in since the ban was lifted on Monday. Please remember to check for other closures before you head out, as there are still some areas closed for Snapper until Jan 30th. Now for what was biting and where Elliston / Sheringa No reports received, but the Salmon and Whiting should still be a good option from the beaches. Around r
  16. Lots of anglers are gearing up for the Snapper ban which ends at 12noon on the 15th. Many of us are looking forward to heading out and landing a few big fish. Almonta / Gunyah Beach Only a few Salmon have been caught over the last week, no reports of big schools have been receiv
  18. Blake Peak caught this Snook at Thistle Island that was weighed at 3Kg. Jackson Smith was lucky enough to get a double header of a 43 and 49cm King George Whiting out at Thistle as well. Good work Jackson. Ash Smith of Arno Bay Fishing Adventures has found some nice Tuna on his last few charters. Now for what was biting and where Elliston / Sheringa Tommies, Squid and Gar have been good this week. The Salmon have been very patchy at Locks Well and off the beaches, but there are lots of King George Whiting and Flathead to make up for the lack of Salmon. Almonta /
  19. Peter “Sharky” Sharland was relaxing with a drink out the front of his house in the Tumby Bay Marina. Using squid for bait on a whiting rig he hooked and landed this 84cm mulloway. A celebratory brew after and Sharky went on to land a nice flathead as well! Now for what was biting and where Elliston / Sheringa Try the Elliston jetty for Tommies and Squid. Anxious bay boaties are reporting King George Whiting. First beach at Sheringa had reports of good sized Tommies, Mullet, King George Whiting and the odd Flathead. Minimal reports of salmon had come through the shop for this

Any Snapper that have been accidentally caught must be returned to the water. If possible, use a net and remove the hooks from the fish without lifting it out of the water to increase the survival rate. The Cowley family returned from a successful fishing trip on the west coast beaches. Schools of salmon averagin

Now for what was biting and where Elliston / Sheringa Land based anglers scored King George Whiting and Flathead on 2 ½ inch Zman soft plastics. Offshore, the Whiting averaged over 40cm with one measuring a massive 59cm. It’s a good idea to release these big fish as they are the sup
