I got a new toy today :)a few months ago I went and had a distance casting session with eddiemacsqid, he had a rod that I used and cast 140m with it :o so I wanted to get one for myself. ;DThe rod is a Poseidon5 by Kingfisher in South Africa. At the time I had a friend who was about to go back there for a family holiday so I asked him if he would get me one and bring it back for me, which he did. ;Dhe's been back a while now, but as he lives down the other end of town, I didnt get the chance to pick it up until today. Its a 3 piece rod but comes with 3 tip sections in light, medium and heavy 14ft longanyways here are some pics size=800http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/yb14RAbN__DSC_1717_800x600.JPG[/img] size=399http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/kfy7PyWT__DSC_1720_800x600.JPG[/img] size=800http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/HYxjajYH__DSC_1723_800x600.JPG[/img] size=800http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/yN319NyM__DSC_1731_800x600.JPG[/img]

Hi IanGlad you managed to get a hold of the rod. From the pics I see that you got the overhead version. You may need to replace the 3 small guides on the middle section with 2 larger guides to make the rod perform with a spinning reel. The three tips make it a very versatile surf rod and use it to catch everything from big Mullies to small live baits.Just select the tip section that best suits the sinker, bait size and fish you expect to catch. As a general guide I use:- Light tip for 2-3oz and small bait.- Medium tip for 4-5oz and pilchard bait.- Heavy tip for 6oz+ and big bait such as a squid head, whole tommy, salmon slab… With the right technique, reel tune and conditions the rod is capable of casting just beyond 200 meters. This is usually far enough to throw a 4oz metal out behind the back breakers when the salmon schools refuse to come into the inshore gutter.I am having a casting practice session on Sun 14th in preparation for the AAA state casting comp the following weekend. Are you interested in trying out you new toy?Good luck with the rod.Eddie

That's a nice toy BigIan.What reel / line / weight were you using to get 140m.....that's a great cast. The South Africans make some good stuff......I have a "Purglass" rod.......12' rated at 24/37kg that I use off the beach with a 6/0 and 50lb line........"lotsa balls" for sure 8)

Hi Eddie, yes im up for some casting practise, I will flick you an email ;)Undertaker, the reel was a shimano baitrunner 6500 with (heck I cant remember what line is on it :-[) I was using an 80lb leader and a 4 or 5oz sinker.while I was stoked with my 140m cast I was well and truly in eddies shadow who was casting 190-200m unreal to see.Cheers Ian
