So far, a junior angling clinic and and a fishing with disability clinic, are being planned in partnership with the Golden Grove Amateur Fishing Association and RecFish SA member, the South Australian Fresh Water Anglers Association (SAFWAA).
Any other clubs or community organisations who would like to be involved with running a fishing clinic please contact RecFish SA by clicking here
Making this trial a success presents recreational fishers with an exciting opportunity to work towards establishing the community benefits of recreational fishing and is just one part of RecFish SA’s plans to work towards better recognition and development of fishing assets in our local councils.
During the City of Tea Tree Gully’s Public Consultation 78% respondents supported the trial of fishing events at the Wynn Vale Dam!
From the City of Tea Tree Gully’s Feb 14 Report:
There was strong level of support for the trialling of recreational fishing events at the Wynn Vale Dam. For those who were in support of the proposal, some of the key reasons for this included the following:
Community event – bringing people together and bringing people to the area
Perhaps the most common reason for people supporting this proposal was due to it bringing interest to the area, bringing the community together and providing an opportunity for people to use the facilities within the area. Many mentioned this as a ‘community event’ and the idea of such as event was very well received.
Introduce people (and children) to fishing
People were also in support of this proposal as it will enable people to enjoy a new hobby within their local area. Many also mentioned the ability to teach their children how to fish would be rewarding. It was seen positively as it is a new skill and hobby, however also an activity that can be undertaken outside (healthy) and low impact with minimal noise or disruption to nearby residents.
Way to eliminate Carp from the Dam
Several people mentioned an excess of Carp that are currently in the Dam, and suggested that these recreational fishing events might be one useful way of reducing the number of Carp that are in the Dam.
Despite most being in support of the proposal, many who were in support made comment about some conditions that would need to be adhered to should it go ahead.
These included:
-Ensure rubbish is kept to a minimum
-Fishing lines and hooks aren’t left after event– harmful to wildlife
-Caught fish are not left on the banks to rot
- More fish are added to the Dam
-Toilet facilities are required if events are to be held there
