http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/Quirks/200 ... iton/9733/Top fisherman is well-traveled BritonPublished: May 31, 2008 at 4:35 PMPLYMOUTH, England, May 31 (UPI) -- British angler Zyg Gregorek is the world's top fisherman thanks to his worldwide efforts to catch fish, the International Game Fish Association says.IGFA President Rob Kramer said the 65-year-old fisherman earned the honor thanks to his ability to catch every member of the association's three so-called "royal slams," The Scotsman said Saturday.The international fishing group separated 27 species of fish into the "royal slams" so there were eight varieties of tuna to catch, 10 species of billfish and nine shark species.Kramer said by traveling 150,000 miles around the globe, Gregorek was able to catch at least one member of each species and earn top fishing honors in the world."To achieve one royal slam is impressive but to get all three is unheard of. He is the first and maybe the last. These awards are considered the big one -- the Holy Grail," Kramer said.For Gregorek, the recognition marked the end of a lengthy "personal journey.""It's cost a bomb but was worth it in the end. To complete all three slams is the culmination of many years' work and the end of a personal journey," he told the Scotsman.
