kon 300 Posted March 11, 2013 Report Share Posted March 11, 2013 Drive to and launch at Penneshaw- Others on here will hopefully give you an update on Backstairs Passage tuna situation.Drive to and launch at Emu Bay- Launch and head west.- Not familiar with the area Emu Bay - Stokes Bay, but generically KGW and flattie spots in close and snapper further out.Now...Stokes Bay...- Bitumen all the way as of last year if going via Parndana (probably why it was much busier mid-Dec last gone than previous years re more locals coming down).- A really low tide can be a launching/swing problem, could reverse back judiciously, seen it done - but you will be able to retrieve - shallow drive a really good idea though...- Ideally watch someone come in or go out first, you have to follow the light green/sandy "channel", narrow entrance but okay as long as you`re careful, don`t hook left as soon as you leave the harbour (!), line up two posts on the shore bank on the way back in for a safe entry (may have to time it if there`s any swell or surf coming in).- Head straight out or west.Poke around towards the point for whiting or squid, a few snapper spots essentially straight out anything from 2-5 kays.Snook around the corner (known as "Box Point", you`ll see why on the way out).Whiting inshore in Dutton Bay.Snapper spots 2-5 kays offshore between Box and Cape Dutton - don`t be fooled, don`t look for rises because there are no obvious ones (slow chug and use the fish finder), we spent years roaring through that area westbound because it appeared so featureless!Whiting in the Middle River/Snellings Beach area in 50-70ft. Gone a little quiet last couple of years though.Keep heading westbound not too far off the bricks for whiting spots, there are a few through to and past Snug Cove.(Watch out for those floating things with ropes attached during lobby season, they can literally be anywhere!)A few snapper and nanny spots between Western River and Snug Cove, 4-8 kays out, in that part of the world there actually is a little more correlation between rises and "spots".Gawdzone Country... BTW - The guys at Jamieson Marine may give you a couple of generic marks if you ask nicely (may help if you buy something!?)They have a marine servicing/repair monopoly on the island but are great to deal with, we`ve made a few anguished "We`re coming into Kingscote!" calls over the years and they were just fantastic.From what you said about previous visits, you would know all about ramps, fuel, bait etc...
