ninja 0
Hey Guys,Just after everyone's opion on rigging live baits.I prefer a hook through the snout, with a treble as a trailer hook.Do you perfer to go through the snout, the back, single or double hooks?Ninja
bennyboy 0
for me it depends on the size and the bait used.but i either go through the snout or two on the back.I have used a two hook combo where the front hook goes through the gap between the gills and the hook point comes neatly out the fishes mouth. Is kinda hard to explain but it is really effective and the bait stays alive as long as any other method.it works well when your going unweighted or in a snaggy situation
Guest Butters
i have also been hooking mine through the snout.. but have also live baited and caught mullies with a single hook through the back.. that is interesting using a treble as a trailing hook.. Guest Butters
ok cool..is this just lightly pinned into the live bait or free hanging?
ninja 0
I generally use enough line to the treble to not pull the fish straight, so it can still swim free, and lightly pin it to the anal passage (ouch), i don't know if it stays in or not but it works. lol
Guest addict
when using a free swinging trebel its called a stinger trace dont know why that is but it is i tried this method before but went back to my original trace set up for live bait
bennyboy 0
and lightly pin it to the anal passage lol anal!sounds like a winner, an idea i might have to try, although after last nights disapointment in the port AGAIN, im giving up on mullies unless fishing form the beach

finatic 1
feed a rubber band thru the eye sockets immediately when you catch your livey, leave him in live tank to settle with it fitted, will be much more relaxed & active when his time comes. bennyboy 0
this may seem pretty dumb but wouldn't it be easier to just slip the hook thorugh the nose rather than going to the trouble of placing a rubber band and having to handle the bait more?it just looks like the same set up but with more effort?
The Guru 0
I just use the normal two hook snell rig as if rigging pilchards or what ever dead baits but then jam the top hook through his back and leave the bottom hook hanging. Always works for me. I couldn't really be bothered with rubber bands etc...
LASH 0
i do the same as you guru just 1 hook thru the trumpetters back toward the head so he swims down freely and have the second hook dangling its worked for me in the past so i will continue to use it
